Seriously?

New name for Veterans Day? Trump says he wants to change it

(excerpt)

Trump said on social media that he's pushing to rename Veterans Day and to formally recognize May 8 in the United States as a way to acknowledge Americans' efforts in World Wars I and II.

"We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything − That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so!" he wrote on Truth Social.

So, let me get this right. For ALL THE YEARS we Veterans, and millions of Americans have been celebrating Veterans Day on Nov. 11th, WE REALLY WERE NOT? Seriously, I'm beginning to think Trump is searching for any way he can to leave his personal egomaniac self on EVERYTHING we know/celebrate in this Country.

Bad enough he demanded the Gulf of Mexico be renamed Gulf of America........ And for any and all who ACTUALLY now call the Gulf of Mexico Gulf of America..........

IDIOTS!

It's gonna be a loooooonnnnggggg four years, sigh

Oh, his tariffs?

Shipments from China fall as Trump’s tariffs loom over economy

Trump's China tariffs spark shipping disruptions comparable to …

Trump reverses tariffs that caused market meltdown, but …

Trump's tariffs have caused plummeting shipments …

Trump’s trade war has already sparked a massive cancellation of ...

This guy has done far more harm to our Country than Biden could have ever dreamed of doing

All the kool-ade drinkers "x" away............ I will cherish each and every one of them
Before we renamed it Veterans day we used to call it Armistice day. Armistice Day because on November 11th at 11 a.m. the armistice went into effect ending the fighting in WW1.

How is that speaking ill of him? Those are simple facts.
The only factual thing in what was said is that he was a liberated POW.

Now I would like to know how you got the idea that what he did for our country is dismissed as not being a war hero.

Maybe time for you to do some research.

You can respect someone's service and also not respect an individual's character. If the one should be lauded, then the other should also be criticized.
He served his country. He wasn't a nice guy. Both are true.

Well, regardless of being a nice guy or not, it doesn’t interfere with the fact that he was both a POW and a war hero.

So honor him for his service. But if you don't believe he should be called out for his faults, then stop calling out others for their faults. And start saying nice things about others.

Please, do not speak ill of any of our veterans.
Aren't you the member here who speaks ill of our President?

That veteran gave secrets to the enemy when their captive that led to the outright death of countless American soldiers,or to their MIA and or POW status.

It isn't speaking ill of the dead. It is speaking of the actual legacy John made for himself.

And as a free man and Senator long years later,he still sought to betray our country and also by sabotaging our Republican presidential candidate.

He probably feels guilty everytime he hears that word _ V E T E R A N _ knowing that he evaded the draft claiming to have had bone spurs.
Our President loves Veterans, and I believe most Vets like him. In my case, you could probably say I was a draft dodger because I was number 4 on the draft lottery in 1970, so that meant sometime in Jan 1971 I would have been drafted. In order to avoid that, I joined the Air Force, as I did not have any desire to go to Vietnam. Peace to you.

For both Americans and Canadians, this verse applies:

“Do not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people." (Ex.22:28). Paul quoted this after snapping at a leader for ordering a physical assault. Though he was otherwise justified, Paul retracted his statement after learning the offender was the high priest.

Pray for your leaders, even if you strongly disagree with them.

McCain is old news. Hegseth is an actual living war hero. The same people that pupu about Trump and McCain's old guys'' country club feud are the same people that been attacking Hegseth even before he was confirmed and frankly they're even more vicious and petty towards my valiant Hegseth about it. I would not take their breathless pearl clutching about McCain with any degree of seriousness.

In terms of the article itself saying Veteran's Day was originally about WW1 I can see Trump's idea, but I would agree to a degree with the OP and say it be smarter to just leave Veteran's Day as is. I notice nobody really objects to Trump's second idea of adding a new Victory Day holiday basically a commemoration of VE Day which is common in other coutnries so it's not actually a crazy idea really or so far removed from the realm of feasibility. Lol one would actually kinda think for the generations that talk so much about Hitler that basically making the day the America ensured Hitler's ultimate defeat into a national holiday would have broad consensus. Though I suppose one could oppose this altogether in good faith on the grounds that we're being too militaristic and jingoistic as a culture and obsessing too on the past from before the time the bulk of our generations were even born. Then again most people are apathetic about such things no matter which way you cut it, a new free day off holiday will probably be well received whatever meaning you wish to try to imbue behind it.

Yes. McCain hated President Trump from the time he entered the race as a Democrat turned Republican.

Now,his daughter continues his campaign of hatred. It's a tragic legacy McCain created for himself. And one that is being compounded and piled on by his daughter.
