"Angel" means messenger, whose function is to pass down a message from God to man, period. That is one of the theophanies, where God the FATHER appeared to various forms, including angel, such as the one that visited Abraham or the one that wrestled with Jacob. This one is in the same category, what's special is the revelation of God's holy name - I AM.
Like when Jesus, the Word, said in John 8:58 " ...Verily, Verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was I AM." Could it be that the Word, the incarnate Jesus, visited Abraham and wrestled with Jacob?

You ever have a car where the wheels were out of alignment?
Or, the brakes were going bad?

You are still the driver.
But bad function can cause you to lose control and cause an accident.

With the Holy Spirit controlling?
He makes your steering aligned and makes you able to keep a straight line.
He makes the brakes stop you when you step on the brake pedal.
We still make the choices, but with the Spirit controlling our flesh, our souls can express the true you without maladjusted function.

If the Holy Spirit took over everything?
Controlled everything you do?
He controls to enable us to do the right thing if we should so choose to.
Without out us being the driver?
Then how would God be able to evaluate us when the time comes?

Now, The leading of the Spirit?
That is God's GPS that He wants us to utilize.
That can only be done righteously if we possess enough sound doctrine.
God leads us into sound doctrinal teachings at some point.
Not everyone accepts, and they will move on according to their own way of thinking.

For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the Spirit, and those of the Spirit are opposed to the flesh.
They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want. But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law."

Galatians 5:17-18

When our wheels are aligned, their is no opposition to steering in the direction we need to go!
If" we still make the choices" than the it's the choices we make, in our souls ( mind, will and emotions), that control our bodies. We make Godly choices out of renewed minds and, as you hit on, the more we renew the spirit of our minds, the more Godly choices we make, then our wheels are aligned and the steering rack recalculates to put us back on the right course. The Holy Spirit leads us but we have to cooperate spiritually, then in our souls (mind, will and emotions), then physically. O

The "dead" was about the 'unbelievers' Jesus said the man should leave to the duty of burying the dead.
Not about the man himself.
You posted" unbelievers( who were physically alive)" in you heading. Not clear who you were referring to.

No it couldn't. The Word existed in the beginning, the Word didn't incarnate in the beginning. An angel is a messager, a medium and a servant of God, through and through.

And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Rev. 19:10)

I meant pre-incarnate Jesus, and if ANYONE could be described as a messenger of God, the Father, it is the Word. He only spoke what the Father told Him in His earthly sojourn, wouldn't you call that being a messenger? He is THE Angel of the Lord in the old covenant. Who do you think met Abraham at his tent door along with the two angels? " For I bear them record that they have a zeal of (for) God, but not according to knowledge." Romans 10:2 Not being critical but I believe a deep study of Romans and Hebrews would help you in further understanding the new covenant, which all in Christ are under.

Who do you think met Abraham at his tent door along with the two angels? "

And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; Gen 18:2

Two angels? The passage only states that the LORD appeared unto him.

And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, Gen 18:2

Sounds like Abraham saw the Holy Ghost, as being the union of the Spirit and the Word?

And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. Gen 18:16

That makes sense since Jesus spake of the Spirit that those who believed should receive since the Holy Ghost had not yet been revealed; since the Word had not be glorified. (John 7:39)

You posted" unbelievers( who were physically alive)" in you heading. Not clear who you were referring to.

Sorry....

Look how I highlighted the words in red...
The spiritually dead (unbelievers) were to bury the physically dead..

That is why Jesus said the following about unbelievers (who were physically alive.)

He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

Jesus said to him...
“Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

In the OT it's all God the Father, except in prophetic visions where the messiah is mentioned or visualized. Yes, I've heard in some sermons where the term "angel" is examined and the relevant texts perused, the conclusion on the meaning and identity of an "angel" is the same shown in Rev. 19:10.

Technically, every spokesman of God can be called an "angel", but if the gold standard in 1 Jn. 4:1-3 is applied - any spirit that confesses God's incarnation in Christ is true, any spirit that doesn't is false, then pre-incarnate Jesus couldn't be any angel of the Lord in the OT, a glowing bush is not flesh and bones.

Except that none of us who believe you can't lose your salvation from death actually teach that.

Teaching you cannot lose your salvation is teaching false doctrine which is sinful so these folks are teaching one can live in sin and still be saved because they are living in sin claiming to still be saved when they teach you can't lose your salvation.

They believe one can't lose their salvation by not accepting all the Lord says in His Word. They only believe the happy verses coming from their favorite ear tickling preachers who seek to only teach what people want to hear as people want to believe they can still live in sin and go to Heaven.

Romans 11:22
For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee,
goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

John 15:1,2
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

John 15:5
IF A MAN ABIDE NOT IN ME, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

The Lord is very clear on this matter - those that do not abide in Him are cut off and removed.

Some folks need to confess and turn away from their sin and get back in right standing with the Lord before their time runs out.

That is simply your perception of what is said.

No, it's actually what the false teachers are teaching in these last days

First of all there is no other scripture, that I recall, that describes the Holy Spirit as a man or that has seen Him. Secondly Jesus was speaking of those who believed in Him, " (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him ( Jesus ) should receive: for the Holy Ghost WAS NOT YET GIVEN; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)" John 7:39. Secondly, if you continue reading to verse 1 of Gen. 19 you'll find that the two who went before the Lord (Word) were angels. Thirdly, I find no mention of Abraham having been given the Holy Spirit, although a few in the old covenant were. Keep seeking.

Okay, but does that imply that if we have a close family member or friend who were not saved we are not supposed to bury them, to you?

You mean the Word, who was" with God(the Father) and was God(in and of Himself)", John 1:1, who was later" made flesh" John 1:14, while in the form of God " Who(the Word), being in the form of God (Spirit), thought it not robbery to be equal with God(the Father):" Philippians 2:6, COULDN'T have been who Abraham was speaking to in the burning bush? Please remember, " For with God NOTHING shall be impossible," Luke 1:37. That "gold standard " you speak of is to discern where. or what type of spirit, a message is coming from, not the full or only definition of an angel. Weak attempt maybe, but here goes. You have water, ice and steam, water to slake you thirst, ice to cool or preserve something and steam to power a locomotive or get the wrinkles out of your clothes. When the ice melts and the steam condensates what do they become? Water. Again. So three things can be one, with differing forms and functions, for they were one in the first place.

First of all there is no other scripture, that I recall, that describes the Holy Spirit as a man or that has seen Him.

"...take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit." Matt 1:20 NIV

It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. John 8:17-19

And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. John 12:23 KJV

By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:39 NIV

And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. John 12:23 KJV

Thirdly, I find no mention of Abraham having been given the Holy Spirit, although a few in the old covenant were. Keep seeking.

And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? Gen 41:38

Reply # 1 still doesn't, biblically, state the the Holy Spirit is a man or has been seen. Reply #2 Jesus is speaking of those at that time and after and your reply doesn't make sense, to me Reply# 3 Your response noting Gen. 41:38 is, I believe, speaking of Moses, not Abraham. And as I stated, the Holy Spirit WAS given to a few in the O.T. , your reference pointing that out. Keep seeking.

No, it's actually what the false teachers are teaching in these last days

You did nothing to save yourself from death, you can do nothing to keep yourself alive. It was God who decided to make you alive in spite of your sin, not you. The only salvation you can have an effect upon is your salvation from the power of sin but it's consequences and it's presence, is a grace act you have no say in. You either believe God saves or you don't, it really is that simple. :)

Maybe this will help to see what I am getting at concerning what God's power of grace is able to produce in us as to make us free to do what is right.

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer
I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell
in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot
carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this
I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it
is sin living in me that does it.

Romans 7:15-20

Pharaoh was speaking of Joseph. So who told Pharaoh that Sarai was Abram's wife ?

We are to"walk by faith."
We use the Cross walk...
Jesus paid for all our sins.

Jay Walkers suffer the mental consequences by still living by law, not grace.

They deny that God saved those who believe in Jesus completely by dying for all our sins. (not just some)
Jay Walkers see certain sins stronger than the work of the Cross!
And, tell us we can undo God's atonement that saved us because of what the Jay Walker disapproves of personally.

"And this is the will of him who sent me,
that I shall lose none of all those he has given me,
but raise them up at the last day." John 6:39
Jay Walkers tell us that Jesus lied.
