OK, I can see that and fully embrace Isaiah 55.

What are you then using as collateral to 'buy' from God?
Collateral? I thought collateral has to do with loan or borrowing but none is applicable here. Let me explain

There is no price tag on the "gift" of eternal life but it must cost us something which everybody can afford whether rich or poor. And that which it costs is the life of the flesh. We must give up life after the flesh in order to have it. However, when we truly understand that the life after the flesh profits us nothing, we can appreciate the fact that it really costs nothing. We get it free of charge even though we re giving away something!!

The understanding I am embracing from Isaiah is that, because it is a "free gift" does not mean there is nothing to give up on our part. The fact that Christ Jesus traded his life for our sinful life does not give us the license as the scripture says, to continue in our sinful life. We must show in our own life outwardly, that life of Christ he traded for us. We must jettison the life of the flesh as a matter of urgency and importance.

So, for me, when we say it is a free gift, this understanding must be ingrained in our heart.

Jesus is our High Priest and Christians become part of the royal priesthood. (1 Peter 2:9)

The OT ordination of the earthly High Priest involved his receiving his priestly garments after being washed from head to toe at the laver. The High Priest's sons were required to be washed there as well. The ordination also included being anointed with oil. One can easily see a parallel in the NT requirements to obey water baptism in the name of Jesus, and to receive the Holy Ghost as referenced in Acts 2:38.

Ex 40:12-16
And thou shalt bring Aaron and HIS SONS unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.

And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments
, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.
And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:

And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.
Thus did Moses: according to all that the Lord commanded him, so did he.

Here's a wild thought. These verses you quoted that describe the commissioning ceremony for priests into the Aaronic priesthood were a type pointing to Jesus' baptism into the order of Melchizedek priesthood by the greatest Aaronic priest who ever lived, John the Baptist. All of the elements are there: the ceremony was conducted publicly, jesus was immersed in water, he was anointed with holy spirit, and it was done at the doorway to heaven from which a voice came declaring him to be righteous.

Water baptism is when the old man is put off and we are clothed with the new man, ie, the righteousness of Christ. With these things in mind, is it possible that the guest who shows up to the wedding supper without a wedding garment was not baptized? That would explain his great surprise and being speechless.

Adam Clarke Commentary:

Wedding garment - Among the orientals, long white robes were worn at public festivals; and those who appeared on such occasions with any other garments were esteemed, not only highly culpable, but worthy of punishment. Our Lord seems here to allude to Zephaniah 1:7, Zephaniah 1:8, The Lord hath prepared a Sacrifice, he hath Bidden his guests. And it shall come to pass, in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will Punish the princes, and the King's Children, and All Such as are clothed with Strange Apparel. The person who invited the guests prepared such a garment for each, for the time being; and with which he was furnished on his application to the ruler of the feast. It was this which made the conduct of the person mentioned in the text inexcusable; he might have had a proper marriage garment, if he had applied for it.

Albert Barnes' Notes on the Bible:

A man which had not on a wedding garment - In ancient times, kings and princes were accustomed to make presents of changes of raiment to their friends and favourites, to refuse to receive which was an expression of highest contempt, Genesis 45:22; 2 Kings 10:22; Esther 6:8; Esther 8:15. It was, of course, expected that such garments would be worn when they came into the presence of the benefactor. The garments worn on festival occasions were chiefly long white robes, and it was the custom of the person who made the feast to prepare such robes to be worn by the guests. This renders the conduct of this man more inexcusable. He came in his common and ordinary dress, as he was taken from the highway: and though he had not a garment of his own suitable for the occasion, yet one had been provided for him, if he had applied for it. His not doing it was expressive of the highest disrespect for the king. This beautifully represents the conduct of the hypocrite in the church. A garment of salvation might be his, performed by the hands of the Saviour, and dyed in his blood; but the hypocrite chooses the filthy rags of his own righteousness, and thus offers the highest contempt for that provided in the gospel. He is to blame, not for being invited - not for coming, if he would come, for he is freely invited but for offering the highest contempt to the King of Zion in presenting himself with all his filth and rags, and in refusing to be saved in the way provided in the gospel.

  • The King's Inspection: Represents God's final judgment and evaluation of those who claim to be part of His kingdom.
  • The Wedding Garment: Symbolizes the righteousness of Christ. In ancient custom, a host king would often provide appropriate attire for his guests. Refusing to wear it was a sign of extreme disrespect, indicating a desire to enjoy the king's feast under one's own terms and merits rather than accepting the king's gracious provision.

Go to The water
In Revelation 22, the "Spirit and the bride" are issuing that exact same final wedding invitation, offering the "water of life" freely so that anyone who accepts can be cleansed and clothed properly for the eternal feast.

The text of Matthew 22:11 from the King James Version (KJV) is: Meaning & Symbolism
In the immediate context of the subsequent verses, the king asks the man how he entered without a garment, leaving the guest completely speechless. The king then commands his servants to bind him and cast him into outer darkness.

The King's Inspection
: Represents God's final judgment and evaluation of those who claim to be part of His kingdom.
  • The Wedding Garment: Symbolizes the righteousness of Christ. In ancient near-eastern custom, a host king would often provide appropriate attire for his guests. Refusing to wear it was a sign of extreme disrespect, indicating a desire to enjoy the king's feast under one's own terms and merits rather than accepting the king's gracious provision.
  • It serves as a warning that simply being in the church building or identifying with the crowd of believers is not enough. True salvation requires being spiritually clothed in faith and righteousness given by God.
  • look at Matthew 22 and Revelation 22 together, you see a unified, divine echo chamber. The invitation to salvation is so vital that every part of God's kingdom joins in making the call:
  • The King (God the Father): He originates the call. He prepares the wedding feast for His Son, provides the garments, and commands that the invitation be sent out to the world.
  • The Holy Spirit (The Holy Ghost): He empowers the call. He convicts human hearts, speaks to the world, and provides the spiritual pull that draws people toward the banquet.
  • His People (The Servants / The Bride): They deliver the call. As the physical voice of the King on earth, believers go out into the highways and byways to tell anyone who will listen to "come."
It is a beautiful harmony. The King decrees it, the Holy Spirit carries it, and His people voice it. They all share the exact same desire: that the wedding hall be filled and that "whosoever will" may come and take the water of life freely.

Notice both Aaron and His Sons had to be washed prior to being clothed with the priestly garments. They were also anointed with oil. And afterward the blood was applied to their ears, thumbs and big toe. (see below)

Ex 29:20-21
Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.
And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.

We will share to the Called And Holy Spirit Anointed Filled that know The Full blessing Of All Jesin did Son of Man Then Now Don of Man Glorified Lord And Christ
Jesus did not keep this dual title for Himself. Through His sacrifice, He brought His followers into this exact same royal priesthood.
  • The Apostle Peter's Declaration: In 1 Peter 2:9, Peter tells believers: "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people." A "royal priesthood" means you are simultaneously a king (royal) and a priest.
  • The Revelation Connection: In Revelation 1:6, John writes that Jesus Christ "hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father." This is repeated in Revelation 5:10, stating that believers will reign on the earth.

3. How to Walk in the Order of Melchizedek
According to the epistles, operating in this order changes how a believer lives every day compared to the old legalistic priesthood:
  • No More Physical Sacrifices: Instead of slaughtering animals, your job as a priest is to offer spiritual sacrifices. Romans 12:1 commands you to present your own body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.
  • A Life of Blessing: Just like Melchizedek met Abraham with bread, wine, and a blessing, your role as a royal priest is to bring spiritual nourishment, peace, and blessings to the people around you.
  • Direct Access to the Throne: Under the old system, regular people were kept far away from the holy places. Under the Order of Melchizedek, Hebrews 4:16 says you can step boldly right into the throne room of grace to find help in times of need.
