at the same time that we're talking about Him preparing a place for us to dwell with Him, we are being prepared to be a place for Him to dwell in us.

a temple, the true temple - where He will make His dwelling place.

the Father & the Son will come in to us and make His dwelling place with us.

"Immanuel" - God with us. He never left your side!

Brother, when I really get to thinking about all of this, I have to remember the Apostles Epistle to the Corinthians, and how he spoke of the imperfect putting on perfection and the different kinds of bodies.

See, all this new earth is where we and Jesus will live forever or whatever is fine with me, but it surely must beg the question:

IF we are simply going to remain here on a new earth, why would we need a celestial/spiritual body? Are not the celestial/spiritual in Heaven at His Throne? Maybe it's just me, so....... :)

1 Corinthians 15:39) All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
40 .) There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 .) There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 .) So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 .) It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 .) It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Are “mansions” large, impressive houses, or are they something else, such as resting places?

The father's house is the people of God, the true believers. Hebrews 3:6a: "But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we" . When the Bible says we are his house it means the people. The people are the Father's house. The dwelling places in the father's house are God's words. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly" . Christ went to prepare a place for us by going to the cross and being resurrected. "but a body hast thou prepared me" If it were not the case that he died and resurrected for the true believers to dwell in his word forever, he would have told them so.

Morning Birdie,

John 14:2-3 the word is referring to dwelling places, abodes, rooms. It is not figurative referring to our bodies. If you will look at the entire context, Jesus said "In my Father's house are many dwelling places and I go and prepare a place for you." Then he said that he would come back again to receive us to himself to take us back to the Father's house that where He is we may be also. Jesus here is referring to when he ascended to the right hand of the Father and just as he promised, He will return to gather us and take us back to those dwelling places which are in the Father's house. There is no need to symbolize the scripture. In your example above, all you are doing is misapplying scriptures.
