Why bother? James calls it worthless.
James 1:26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
You mean sister ?

I have said this so many times I am getting tired of it. People take an English translation and read into the text what is NOT there in the original language.
I do hope some of you will take the time to read this. As I have said in so many places - (and NOT just about women), without a knowledge of Greek and Hebrew, you are depending on the personal bias of the translator.
I have taken the time to look into it a couple of occasions when people claim "If you go to the greek you won't get that......you don't know greek so you don't know what your talking about".....so on a few occasions I actually got the original greek text, learned what the words meant and how the grammar works....looked at official comparison translations and translated it word for word myself....Everytime I've done so, the meaning of the verse doesn't change....The bias is usually coming from the person who doesn't like what the verse actually means and is trying to force their own interpretation on it.
You can make unbiblical arguments for anything you want if you wish to engage in word play....satan himself is fond of that......that was his approach when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness
1 Timothy 2:11-15 "Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. [SUP]12 [/SUP]And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. [SUP]13 [/SUP]For Adam was formed first, then Eve. [SUP]14 [/SUP]And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control."
What?! I don't understand! I am not a quiet person and I will not be shut down just because of a man. I do not care who he is in my life! This has made me angry and I do not know what to do! This is scripture, so how can it be wrong? If it is not wrong then it is has to be right. So what does that mean for me? Am I just misunderstanding it? Adam was deceived also... He ate the fruit to... He let Eve talk him into doing the very thing GOD told him not to do. He was there when the serpent deceived his wife and he did nothing... He did not lead her, but, instead, let her lead him. So I have to have a child and my salvation depends on who they grow up to be? If that's true then I'm screwed. I do not want children because I lack that motherly quality that is the key ingredient to the whole parenting thing: I. AM. NOT. GOOD. WITH KIDS!!! Silence?! SILENCE???!!! Not possible. I am living with a couple who live exactly as that scripture says and I can't do that. The husband talks down to his wife for, goodness sake!!! She is not his equal, she's his child! If he says no then the answer is no... I don't think so. I am a believer in the husband leading his wife, but they also need to be partners. The wife needs a say so. Women can be easily lead astray because they lack the kind of strength that men kept with him when GOD took the Eve out of Adam. A woman needs a man over her and I have seen what it looks like when a woman is the head of a church and no man puts a stop to any of her ideas. It's ugly because it is not GOD's way. I get that, but that should not belittle her strength. I honestly do not know what to do... If this is what is meant to come out of marriage then I will avoid that vow like the plague! I am not Eve. I cannot be held in contempt because of her mistake. That would contradict the whole being reborn in Christ and being washed by His blood. I could cry! What is GOD's way here?
Im glad i found this thread it has been a question linguring in my head.
im exactly the same, i do not think i could be abLe to obey a man during marriage if he was to be like the man you live with. I would love for him to teach me and treat me right then i wont need to voice out so much. So my suggestion would be to let the man know before marriage that you want your opinions heard and want to be treated equal.
lol Look at the context.1 Timothy 2:11-15 "Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. It all depends. Personally, I won't listen to a woman if she's in a pulpit or has anything remotely resembling a position of authority in a Church. I'll walk out of the Church never to return. Outside of church however, I learned a lot from my mother, especially when I was young....and a lot of older Godly women taught me a lot about how to walk with the Lord the right way just by things they said and how they lived their lives in general. That verse isn't there to shut women out of the Church. Women can also have the gift of prophecy and many other things as well....the only thing not allowed is a position of authority or as a teacher in the Church. These positions aren't something women should envy or lust after either.....teachers receive the stricter judgement....it's not a position to be taken lightly
You say you went into the Greek. What were you using, Strong's or the Blue Letter Bible? Those are very simple tools. The books I quoted at the bottom of my post go much deeper into the Greek.
Also, translating word for word forgets the context, grammar, syntax. That is why I went into the context so much in my post. In good hermeneutics, a knowledge of these parts of speech and context is vital. You need to know all the variations of the words (not usually in the simpler tools!) but then understand it within the context of when and to whom the book was written. The is why I quoted Rogers and Rogers. It is a Linguistic and Exegetical KEY to the Greek New Testament and used by scholars and in seminaries everywhere.
Before I learned Greek - the entire language, I used to use Strong's a lot. Now I realize that simply was not enough. Until you understand cases for the nouns, and the very different way verbs in particular are used, with respect to aspect, not time, you simply cannot interpret the Bible by pulling out word for word and translating it.
Now I believe that the translators of our modern Bibles were highly educated in the original languages. However, it is easy to have a bias and translate things that way. KJV is a perfect example of this. Translating the word ἡσυχίᾳ as SILENT, rather than quiet. Because KJ wanted all women to be silent.
Anyway, I always tell people - take a course to learn Greek. Bill Mounce has a great on-line course with text books, and a really good basic intro to the grammar, syntax and use of Greek when studying the Bible, using videos and on-line forums to ask questions. It really is amazing when the scope of the language is opened up. You don't have to believe me, but I did quote the "experts" and I do read Greek.
The OP asked a question about whether she could teach. I asked the same question when I read that verse, my 4th year of part time Seminary. I prayed and God put books in my hands which explained the Greek, included chiasms, which are too complex to explain here and do apply to 1 Tim. 2:11-15. I believe the Bible totally, but there are so many nuances which do not come through when you translate from the Greek into any language. So study it yourself, to show yourself a workman approved. And that means really learning the language and not being afraid to ask questions like the OP did!
We older, Godly women are supposed to teach the younger women as you said, and we can be blessed with various gifts such as prophecy. The point is to carry out these things God gives us to do within the bounds He has also given. The vast majority of women today want nothing to do with the boundaries and duties God has given us. My experiences in discussing this subject have many times not been good.I have received very hostile feedback from women who think their fantastic education this world offers makes them wiser than El Elyon's (Most High God) Word He has given to us. They don't even understand what they are missing by pursuing the hedonistic values of this world when they could be God's children living as He directs.
