If you want a mirror, have a child, make art, write a diary, or clone yourself. But don’t call your reflection God...

Howdy and welcome to the forum.

I've never heard that saying before, but to me it means "don't elevate what you have done over who made you." Or maybe "don't be so proud of your accomplishments that you lose sight of the reason you are on this planet."

That's the best I can do with something like this off the cuff.

Is it like the clay telling the Potter how to shape them. Or something.

Sure there's a Bible verse on that. Also now we look through a glass darkly, but soon we shall see Him face to face.
Not sure if the glass is a mirror although sometimes if we aren't looking through we can see our own reflections in the glass.

I think that person is selfish and not thinking about God but about themselves.
I think the quote is warning against confusing ourselves or our creations with God. Whether it's stated too bluntly is another question. Calling the author selfish doesn't really address the point; it addresses the tone. You can disagree with the tone while still asking whether the underlying idea has merit.

Forgive me i meant to say IMO a person LIKE that is selfish, they should want to know God MORE rather than themself.

You'll see yourself as you really are with all your imperfections that way. Not a perfect being, but one with flaws and who grows.
