I've been wondering what you do once you get the holy spirit. There are many examples of people in the bible receiving and having the holy spirit such as in acts, the gospels and the books of the prophets but no directions on what to do with him(holy spirit). Of course there is Galatians 5 regarding the fruit of the spirit, but that only indicates whether you have the spirit of God or not. Can someone please give me some scripture or explanation that can give me a hint on what to do? Thank you.

'I believe each will account for their own "actions" and/or "method" of their claiming of the
Holy Spirit in one's life. I believe "worldliness" to be a major hindrance in hoping for
guidance of the Holy Spirit. I have learned "spiritual conscientiousness" being essential.

Can you explain what you mean exactly by "what do you do with Him"? When it comes to the Holy Spirit I think more in terms of what can He do with me.
First do not quench him. 1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
It is supposed to be the Holy Spirit working in us, not our choosing how to use him.
As we learn to stop thinking of our selves and thinking more about others, we give opportunity for the Spirit to accomplish his work in us.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:14
It's not what we do with the Holy Spirit that is the issue. It's what we allow Him to do in and through us. We need to start with an attitude that God's will is our number one priority. That especially includes the times when we'd much rather be doing our own will. The Holy Spirit is the power of God to instruct us and enable us to do God's will.
Lord Jesus is not only the Way and the Truth. He is the actual life of all who are born again. Whether or not we experience Him as "The Life" depends on our willingness. Many years ago I began asking Jesus to live out His life in me, through me and in place of who I am in the natural. It's the only way to live. Jesus in me always pleases God and is well able to do whatever God requires of me. Pray that daily and then leave it to Lord Jesus to lead you in the right way.
Note that the Holy Spirit is in effect the Life of Christ dwelling in us.
What do you do? Surrender to His presence in your life and then 'walk in the Spirit' i.e depend upon and obey.

Invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Invite His wisdom and guidance. Listen for His insight. Invite Him into every part of your life and to conform you to be like Jesus.

The Bible does not give specific instructions as to how one adjusts to the Holy Spirit, but then there is also no guidebook for human babies as to how they should behave after birth. You look to others whom you respect and trust and try to follow their lead as well as the urgings of the Holy Spirit within you. Now the more you learn to follow the urgings of the Holy Spirit, the better you will do, following the lead of other believers may or may not help you., depending on how well they have learned from the Holy Spirit.
Read about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and understand which ones you have been given. Then read about what those Gifts represent and how they edify other believers and yourself. And find ways to bless others through your Gift because ultimately this is God doing it through you. Help the Kingdom of God or be productive for God. The rewards are essential to your own personal walk with God.
Actually that is exactly what i was trying to say, What CAN he do with me? What is my purpose in the holy spirit and how do i find that purpose if it can be found.
Ahh, thanks for clarifying. For me it's a matter of prayer and seeking the Holy Spirit in an intentional way. Reading scripture is always good, but a relationship with the Holy Spirit is a very personal and intimate thing. I can only speak from my own experience; I had to actively pursue the Holy Spirit and let the Father know I was ready and willing to be led. I do this on a daily basis.

No problem. When I was first saved, people talked about the Holy Ghost. I knew nothing and I baulked at the idea of being taken over by a ghost. It took me a while to get that sorted out in my head. There are no dumb questions in the Christian life.
Know God as your Father

Once you 'get' the above, your gifts will follow. They will come to you 'naturally,' and you'll generate more brothers.

Read about each Gift and then search within yourself if you have that ability.

The Gift of Discernment
Are you able to sense when you are around other people if they are not acting normal and seem indifferent or when you're talking can feel like what they're saying is a lie or the truth?
If you can this could be the Gift of Discernment.
But each Gift is explained thoroughly in the Bible and you just read about and then think about interactions with people both believers and non believers and see if during that scenario did you experience what the Gift is by how it is defined.
