Every walk I go on I always stop and think about God. That's why I take pics of everything. It reminds me of all the beauty God made. It puts a smile on my face and makes me more thankful to still be here.

I find listening to Hank Williams sr. gospel songs (and some of the other songs as well) calming. His voice is the sweet smell of home.

i'm like that too. in fact, most nights, i go to sleep listening to the bible.

i started doing that a number of years ago when i suffered from awful nightmares, and i've never stopped--just a habit now.

You must have also been able to memorize various passages in the process. :)

Blessings.

something i've always found interesting are the (oft unique) things that others find soothing.

i once knew a girl who would pour a giant bowl of lucky charms whenever she got rattled. a guy friend of mine will watch a certain sketch comedy show.

i've got my own semi-quirky rituals, and i'm sure many of you do too.

aside from God, your friends and family, what things or activities do you find calming?

p.s. thanks to bananapie for inspiring this thread
praying to God alone.

The sound of running water, The sound of an electric fan buzzing rhythmically, cutesy absurd silly anime music. But above all, Jesus.

-Reading

-Writing poetry (usually about what ever it is that rattled me)

- Listening to the sound of rain (If it's not raining I find a recording of rain on youtube)

- Chatting with people on CC

- The Scent of lavender is soothing to me

- The scent of crayola crayons

- Music

- Walking

Man, I must be REALLY tired, because I read that as "The Scent of CC" and I thought to myself, "Well, that can't be right!"

But lavender is known for its soothing scent and it actually DOES help soothe people when they're anxious or find themselves awake in the middle of the night (though it doesn't always help me...)

Water is relaxing (sitting next to a lake, walking near a creek, listening to the rain, taking a bath, swimming)

The smell of Chai or coffee

Petting my cat

Singing

If I'm upset, I will usually end up doing chores, folding laundry, washing dishes, etc. It allows me to think and keeps my hands busy and I feel better that I've been productive.

Watching HGTV is fairly calming. It's a lighthearted channel and sometimes the scenery you see on there (Like on House Hunters International) is GORGEOUS!

Gazing and staring at the awesomeness of nature and all of it's surrounding, sometimes with a cup of tea and lost in complete oblivion.

Music - Depending on what happened during the day it ranges from Country to whatever.

Being out in nature - There's just no replacement for nature.

Being by myself - I snowboard by myself allot and this helps keep me somewhat sane.
