Wha does "grace alone by faith" mean? Why do we have to repent if we are saved by grace? Or is grace referred to as God giving is Jesus?

God's grace comes to us in the Gospel of Christ as a gift, faith receives that free gift.

Grace means.... getting something good that we Don't deserve. That's not the exact definition, but a basic idea of what's intended. So our salvation is God granting us this salvation, that we don't deserve. It's nothing we can earn, no 'good works' can earn it, we cant buy it. Its a free gift that we shouldn't be given, but it's given anyways.
Next we have to have faith in God that He has graced us with this gift of salvation. Without grace we cannot be saved. But if we don't have faith, we can't accept grace.

Why do we have to repent if we are saved by grace?

The command to repent drives us to the cross. We know there is no way we can repent on our own. The grace of God enables that repentance. The call to repent succinctly points out the fact we have fallen short of the glory of God. It's a call to change that can only be brought about through the power of the Gospel, because it's the Gospel that is the power of God for salvation.

Romans 1
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,[e] as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
Keep in Step with the Spirit

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 Forthe desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[d] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, thatthose who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness,self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Once we have the Gospel power working in us, we live by the Spirit, and do good works to serve our neighbors and bring glory to God.

This is a truly repentant life.

When we are saved, even when we face physical death we are accepted into a new and wonderful way of living. We cannot bring sin into that new living, yet we know sin. The first man chose to know sin, and we inherit that from him. If we could live without knowing anything of sin, and could live without it, we could save ourselves and live with the Lord in heaven. You can see that is impossible for us, so God sent His son to do it for us. We aren't told what Christ went through those three days between his crucifixion and resurrection, and we probably couldn't understand if God told us. But God arranged grace for us, so it isn't what we do that insures our eternal life, but our faith in God.

This grace is so powerful that in the 4,000 or so years before Christ lived as a man and was crucified in our time, just using the shadow or symbol of His blood insured that people would not die eternally, but only sleep until Christ did this for us.

Repent means to turn. We turn from our ways to God. We cannot earn salvation it is a free gift which we need to accept. After we have received grace and been saved then grace allows us to do good work.

[h=3]Ephesians 2:8-10[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]8 [/SUP]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

[SUP]9 [/SUP]Not of works, lest any man should boast.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

We are saved by grace through faith. Faith is a gift, we cannot earn faith.

Grace is unmerited favor meaning that it is unearned while you and I were yet sinners Christ gave Himself for you and me. We repent of sins by asking Jesus to become the Lord of our life and submit to Him. When we do that The Holy Spirit changes us or we are reborn. We no longer enjoy doing the things we did before. Then Holy Spirit produces fruit in us and through us.

And all of it is free gift, but we must repent and ask.

Someone once told me that we can remember how grace saves us by thinking of it as:

God's
Riches (forgiveness and going to heaven)
At
Christ's
Expense (suffering and dying on the cross for us).

Christ Jesus died on the cross so we could go to heaven someday. What could you or I do that could compare with that? That is what the alone part is for. Nothing else can compare with what Jesus did for us.

A good way to think of it.

The acrostic does not translate, but the meaning and content is good.

It does not answer the question why do we have to repent to access it.

we must repent because we are born in sin and have know way to get out except the cross. Man is in a fallen state and spiritually dead. When we hear the gospel, the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and pulls us to repentance. When we accept Christ the the change comes. When I repented and ask Jesus to come into my life, I felt so light, that I could have floated, the burden and yoke of sin was lifted off my shoulders and saw things in a new light.

Quit complicating things...

But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
(1Co 15:10)

God's grace comes to us in the Gospel of Christ as a gift, faith receives that free gift.

Wow do you have it backwards... This is where you have lost the Truth and the Way... I was always wodering why you do not agree with me on most subjects now I know....

Let me show you your error.... Can ANY man be saved without grace? NO!
Ok we agree on thaat I know we do.... But where does FAITH comes from? Form the man or from God? You make it as though faith and grace is two seperate things? If Grace is from God and it is HIS UMERITED FAVOUR.... what is FAITH? Also a gift from God and UNMERITED FAVOUR. All GIFTS from God is HIS GRACE (unmerited favour)

But here is the thing you just do not GET crossy... God's gifts ARE PERFECT!.... They do not fail EVER! And to see this you have to do one thing toady.... Forget about man.... Focus on God today, and ONLY on God....

Ok let us ask God.... Lord Jesus, can you make a man perfect here on earth? YES I AM GOD ALMIGHTY!
Now let us ask the Lord... Lord Jesus, do you want to make men perfect here on earth? YES THAT IS WHY I COMMNDED IT IN MATTHEW 5:48.
Now mot takng our focus off God, we have to know if the Word of God gives us evidence of this. If we look at you and me and other people, there is NO EVIDENCE... but remember we ONLY FOCUS ON GOD....

If God wants to make man perfect aand ew know HE IS THE ONLY PERFECT there is, then God has to FILL the man with HIMSELF to make this man perfect does He not. So doeas God fill ALL HIS PEOPLE WITH HIMSELF.... YES! THERE IS ONE FATHER IN, ABOVE, and THROUGH ALL HIS PEOPLE!

Now all we have to know is that NO MAN can do this, it is GOD WHO DOES THIS... And he does it with UMERITED FAVOUR.... He does it because HE WANTS TO DO IT...
No sinner saves himself GOd does. nd God does it through the obedience of the faith. HIS GIFT OF GRACE is PERFECT! It takes a sinner and make that sinner a Christ-like man. PERFECT! How? God removes the sinning heart (old man), and replace it with a perfect heart (Jesus' heart). And God removes the sinning spirit (old man spirit) and repace it with HIS HOLY SPIRIT (Chrsit Jesus). And that is the NEW MAN AFTER GOD's likeness.... That is the perfect man of God doing ALL GOOD WORKS.

Bookie NO man of God does what the old man did. The old man is DEAD! Gone! Never to be seen again. God says this... BEHOLD ALL IS BECOME NEW.... And God means ALL!!! Let me tell you this... Just as no fountain can produce good and filthy water, just so can no man produce holiness and sin. It is one of the two. NEVER both. God in any person is perfect! And any person withour God is imperfect! as Easy as that.

All saved people is PERFECT! And all unsaved people is imperfect... Why? Becasue it is God's salvation! And he does not save half measurely... He saves to the FULNESS OF CHRIST JESUS.. unto a perfect man the Bible says.... Eph 4:13... Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Wha does "grace alone by faith" mean? Why do we have to repent if we are saved by grace? Or is grace referred to as God giving is Jesus?

Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

Matthew 5:44
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Jesus is telling us how to repent by throwing away our old self that produces more evil, but put on something that only produces good.

Proverbs 17:13
Evil will never leave the house of one who pays back evil for good.

Salvation by grace means we are granted righteousness/holiness without meeting the requirements of the law of Moses. The law has been fulfilled(paid) and abolished through the death of christ.

Repentance means we no longer look to the Law of Moses to define God's kind of righteousness. It means we now have infinite liberty to live our lives without regard to the definitions and requirements(restrictions) of the law. To live our lives embracing our full natural(God given/designed) attributes and quests, whether they be quest for food, drink, art, science/knowledge, sex, music, etc. These things that the law itself prohibited us by it's demands for abstinence. All things and all knowledge in nature are now permissible to use, just as God designed them in the beginning, before the fall of Adam.

Heads up blood-bought:

But simply put, GRACE can be defined as unearned favour. Specifically, God's grace is something God does for the benefit of His people just because He loves them, not because of something they have done to earn it. Grace is a gift and can never be earned. It's always totally free. ("Cheap Grace" is a counterfeit of God's amazing free grace. "Cheap Grace" claims to accept the benefits of God's Grace without accepting the change in the way we behave. "Cheap Grace" requires no repentance and so there is no need to live like God asks us to live.)

God's justice, mercy and grace can be compared to the pardon that a governor of a state can give to a guilty prisoner who is facing execution (the punishment of death) for something that he or she actually did. JUSTICE will be served and they will be killed unless the governor has MERCY and pardons (forgives) the prisoner. But if the governor goes on and gives that prisoner not only a pardon, but also total freedom, a huge mansion to live in, and unlimited resources then he has given that guilty prisoner both MERCY & GRACE.

If we only received JUSTICE from God we all would be dead because all of us have sinned Romans 3:23, and the "wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23, yet we have been given a "stay of execution" for now.

Right now though, God offers us a pardon (MERCY). He wants to forgive us and set us free from the results of sin. And He has the legal right to do this because our Creator, Jesus, came and died so that we would not have to. Jesus died for us so that we could live, but His death can only be our salvation if we accept it. Just like the prisoner above, we can turn it down or we can accept this pardon that God offers. John 3:16.

If we accept the pardon that God offers us, not only will we not die, He then gives us a life that will never end. He continues by giving us an awesome room in His own home to live in, unlimited resources, and total freedom. That is God's AMAZING GRACE!

God's Grace is "the power of God to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves". And the fact is, we cannot do anything for ourselves. Jesus says, "...without me ye can do nothing." John 15:5

Why would you say the law is abolished when Christ says it isn't? Luk_16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Christ speaks often about the law, and the law of Moses, but not once does Christ say it is abolished.
