Did you post this under 'kitchen flirtations' as well. Then more people would see it.

Some people love open-plan kitchens. but I know they can be a pain when you want privacy or a place/area to cook undisturbed. Life is not always a show room.
I really have not watched what is in that thread.. 😅

Yeah, the open plan kitchen has been kind of a trend, I don't like it.

My kitchen cupboards are yellow and have been that way since...1972. The walls are pale pastel green.
And we have bright orange curtains to match.
That is cool! 😃

I'll bring it up, it's fun. Tourist created it, he's very creative in the kitchen.

As a recovering chef....
My culinary talents are expected to be on display when I'm cooking. Everyone wants to watch. Like I'm a television chef or something....I'm not Gordon or Paula, or anybody of the famous persuasion. I'm a working chef and I talk dirty (R+)to my emulsified sauces but just sexy to the other sauces(PG-13)...
But I try to put on a bit of a show when I have company over. And when it's one of the clergy I try and keep my mouth a bit cleaner. It's a struggle.

But so far so good...
I might have a conflict coming up with cookies at church....I also have a niece and 2 cousins getting FFA awards.
sigh.....

Dunno. Might have to back up and punt.

What's FFA awards?
haha recovering chef. What happened, too much fat, had heart attack? or too much salt, had a stroke? Or was it...too much sugar, got diabetes?
Or...did you slosh wine in everything?

FFA is the Future Farmers of America....it's usually a high school set of classes in rural, agricultural areas in America.

They teach all sorts of things about not only how to raise various crops and livestock but how to do so profitably. Like how much feed is required to produce a pound of meat....how to take advantage of almost free feed sources....how much fertilizer various crops require and all sorts of things. It's a real set of classes.
It also has a volunteer club/association portion that goes on field trips and fun activities and educational events for the public. They sell strawberries in the spring and chrysanthemums in the fall.

My relatives are getting awards for various things they did this past year.

Now for being a recovering chef.....
I'm in a 12 step program....just like a lush. Except I'm having issues with that first step.
Being a chef is a lifestyle that is much more than knowing how to cook. It's several attitudes and ways to perceive things that are very different from the "normal" people. Also Chef working hours are different from the rest of your community as you have to work when they are in your place or somewhere else eating out...leading to isolation.

As I'm in "recovery" I now have friends outside the culinary world. I know lots of people other than vendors and dishwashers. I'm almost perceived as normal even though I really am not....I still carry forward a LOT of perceptions and attitudes about food and foodservice that others do not.

mm ok well some of my uncles were in the restaurant business. I know a lot about it, although I am not a chef, I know some of the things that go on.

A chef is always thinking about the next meal in a way that someone who doesn't have to prepare any food is not. And they have to please their diners, and make it easy and pleasant experience for them, while sticking to a budget, and dealing with leftovers, on a much bigger scale than an ordinary household. The food has to be fresh..can't just take shortcuts, people know when someone has half-heartedly microwaved frozen food lol.

We have primary industries ITO training here. Although I have forgotten what ITO stands for now..and there are agricultural/horticultural awards. I have done a level 3 course. Growing on large scale farming is a lot different to just making a garden in your own property.

Some of my relatives were in market gardening. They had to take their produce to market early in morning and they did auctioning. My grandparents owned a fruit shop. They call it fruit shop even though they sold veges as well. Running a business is sometimes like a 24/7 operation especially as plants/animals have a different schedule than humans. They don't keep office hours! And it's entirely dependent on the weather and seasons.

I did nursery and amenity horticulture. I don't have or work in a nursery, but I did landscape /ornamental gardening for clients and know how to plant a traffic roundabout. Keeping the city looking beautiful is also a job few people notice or understand. Like all the road workers have to work at night when traffic is clear to put all the markers on the road, it doesn't just happen magically.

Sometimes I think....some office workers have no idea what it's like to work outside or in a factory. They never done manual labour for a living. They've never done evening shift. And they are considered the 'normal' people, the ones who work 9-5 and take 4 -5 weeks leave holiday whenever they want.

Did karaoke, napped, had bacon for dinner, so all in all a good day.
Did housework the other day. But I really don't like cleaning the shower. Wish it was self cleaning. Bath ok, as only I use it.

I cooked spaghetti yesterday. I call it spaghetti but I use macaroni noodles with spaghetti sauce, chucks of tomato, garlic and onions, and lots of ground turkey. Sometimes I use penne or ziti or the spiraly ones (can't remember the name). I used to use the long spaghetti noodles but I don't like having to twirl it around my fork.

@zeroturbulence because I'm used to chinese noodles and don't normally eat pasta, when went to Italian restaurant and ordered spaghetti marinara, I just wasn't used to eating it with a fork from a plate My sister had to tell me 'you twirl it around your fork' and I was like oh. No wonder I was making a mess.

Eating noodles from a bowl with chopsticks is sooo much easier.

Oh sacrilege the spaghetti and meatballs in tomato sauce that come in the can from Watties..we put on toast with butter, the spaghetti is the topping and eat it by slicing up the toast, with a knife and fork, not twirling it round a fork.

Apparently you are never meant to slice up spaghetti with a knife.

Yesterday I was feeling so tired, possibly because I had a migraine, should have noticed it earlier..

But on Friday I got a lamp for my living room that I had ordered (I waited so long for it to be on sale!). So yesterday, I was super eager to get it installed and my brother was no where near this town..

And it was not the type of lamp I could just throw there and connect easily, I had bought an adapter for that..
But it didn't fix this problem I noticed as I opened the package.. It was flat installation not just hang it to there. I need to return that adapter.. :cautious:

Since I took it to this part, I may just finish it all the way.
Hardest part was to take those wires out from that light socket.

But, I soo wanted to get the light to the ceiling..

And finally, after tooo long time (that it took me) I was done.

Ugh, now I have another lamp for my hallway.. 😩 Not gonna do that yet...

Thank you, Gabe! I have a few personal testimonial-type songs made into videos, and really would
love to write more. One of my first from early February which I still really like is this one:

Both are awesome songs Magenta, you should definitely write more :D

I will listen your other songs when I have more time on my hand.
