MARK 12:29-31
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

In the old commandment, the standard for the love of man is in himself. In this new commandment the love of man and the love of God are at the same level: the standard for the love of man is in God.

As it is mentioned in the last line of Mark 12:31 There is None Other Commandment GREATER Than This.

If these are the 2 Greatest Commandments. Then it is important to Know The First Commandment so we can fulfil. To Fulfil other commandments is nothing or useless unless we fulfill the First of All The Commandment.
JAMES 2:10
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Let us try to read Mark 12:29-30 again to know the first commandment.

The Lord Jesus said in verse 29. HEAR O ISRAEL.

To whom our Lord Jesus address when he says ISRAEL?
According to our Lord Jesus, he is Speaking in Parables. And he must expound the meaning before we able to understand it.
MARK 4:34
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

Rom 13:8-10
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Paul states clearly that keeping the law is love.
The last 6 commandments of the 10 are all about our relationship with each other..

To not steal or lie is loving.

The first 4 of the 10 commandments are about loving God.

1Jn 5:2-3
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Deu 30:16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

Jos 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Neh 1:5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: .....

Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

2Jn 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

Love and keeping the commandments are very strongly linked..

I can't understand how people try to say the commandments don't matter, obeying the law is not important.

Love is keeping the law.

The first is to love God
The second is to love each other.

God comes first and our neighbour comes second.

On these two hang all others

But the question, or place were people differ in opinion is .... What is Love.....??

What does it mean to love God with all your heart? And love your neighbour as yourself?

In the bible LOVE is connected with following the laws and commandments of God.

Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Love is keeping His commandments.

As we know that our Lord Jesus Christ ministered in Israel only and didn't to other countries (although his words is pertaining to the whole world).
Our Lord was just spreading the good news to the Jews who is the basis of salvation is the words of God in the Old Testament (holy Bible).

It going to clear for me that the word ISRAEL in our times is pertaining to Christianity only. Because the Christianity today, the only religion whose the basis for salvation is the Holy Bible.

In Mark 12:29, our Lord Jesus calls the attention of Christianity today and stressing (as the first commandment) that there is ONLY One God and One Lord.

MARK 12:29-31
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
