I don't know why you got so many antagonistic responses to your question, but I'm open to help you if I can. Basically, we need to abide in the Vine Who is Christ to be saved. From the antagonistic responses that I've read so far, I can't imagine that Christ inspired the same.If I do not accept Scriptural answers, I would be a fool. I love the Word of God. I am not all knowing and I am more than happy to learn.
The term "saved" ... I am not quite sure what it means in this context. There are many meanings for this word. My answer was to get people to think.
No small concern is raised when you say "do we have what we have not attained". Perhaps you should endeavor to clairify that statement. If I do not accept Scriptural answers, I would be a fool. I love the Word of God. I am not all knowing and I am more than happy to learn.

Actually, I can't give scripture to prove my point. Well, I can, but there's the problem. I think the entire Bible (except for advice from friends of Job) IS the gospel message. I make a lousy evangelist, because I tend to want to tell the entire story in one fell swoop, and, since I don't have it memorized, it comes out more like a babbling idiot than the Good News.In the not-so-distant past, I thought I was "saved". I grew up in the "church". I came to realize, by the grace of God, I was not a Christian.
( 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test.)
I had put my faith in a prayer that I said (many times) not in the Lord Jesus Christ.
This thread was started in hopes that I could learn more from those who have the TruthProverbs 27:17) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Also I exhort you all to know what we believe and why we believe it. Do not believe just because that is what your parents believe or because it is what you have been taught or it is popular. We must know what we know. The devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. There are many false gospels and many false teachers. If you cannot Biblically defend what you believe, maybe you shouldn't believe it. If we are shown to be wrong by the Scriptures don't harden your heart because of religion. If I continued on the complacent path I was on, not searching not seeking.....
Philippines 2: 12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
I thank you all for your responses,
What's my user name telling you about me? (Hint: It ain't what it appears to mean for this site.) Because of that, I'm not so quick to judge a book by its cover. I have a sense of humor. I was thinking YMR might have one too, or... maybe he's going with what happens right after salvation. Some questions don't only have one answer.@youmustrepent:
Your username is very much a part of the answer to your questions. People love to quote a part of Acts chapter 16, verse 31 which says And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house, but the next three verses qualify what this actually means:
And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to the Philippian jailer and the members of his household and although this particular text doesn't state exactly what they said, we can pretty much rest assured that Paul's own testimony as recorded in Acts chapter 26 verses 13 thru 20 of how he preached everywhere applied to this situation as well:
At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
Believing in Jesus, according to Paul's gospel, included such things as having one's eyes opened in a spiritual sense and thereby turning from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God and not only repenting, but also doing works worthy of repentance. This is how Paul said that he obeyed the heavenly vision everywhere, so it's safe to assume that he obeyed it in relation to the Philippian jailer and his household.
I certainly wasn't judging him. I followed the link that posthuman posted and read YMR's comments elsewhere and that's what prompted my comments. What's my user name telling you about me? Ah, and that's what I get for not checking links.I certainly wasn't judging him. I followed the link that posthuman posted and read YMR's comments elsewhere and that's what prompted my comments.
It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe......
If you believe in your mind (heart) and confess with thy mouth that God has raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved.
Not by works of righteousness which WE HAVE done, but according to his mercy he has saved us...
Which were born of God....not of blood (heredity), not of the will of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God....
Having begun in the spirit are you now made complete by the flesh.....
or God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son<----whosever believes in him should not perish, but is having eternal life....
Having been justified by his BLOOD and by the FAITH OF JESUS Christ......
Sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, IN the Father's hand, In the Son's hand and all according to the completed work and mediatorship of JESUS CHRIST who is ALWAYS at the right hand of the Father interceding for us as the perfect lawyer (one along side)

I'm disabled plus I have insomnia. (In answer to how I have the time anyway. lol)Again thank you all for taking time to post. I cannot respond to each post individually (where do others find the time?). No need for apologies, bro, no offense taken. It looks like I have some homework (Bible studying) to do thanks to you all.
