What is the Pentecostal church like?

I am wondering what the Pentecostal church is like.

The reason is because my husband's former female friend grew up in that church as well as her parents.
 
There are many shades of Pentecostal. Some are solidly biblical, some are more experiential; some are conservative, some are charismatic in style, some are open to the gifts of the Spirit, and a few are out on the limbs. It's probably best to assess on an individual level, one congregation at a time. With a person, asking a few questions might be best... that is, if there is any contact. In your situation, maybe find out which church she attended and ask them directly. :)
 
What I know from my husband is that the particular Pentecostal church his former female friend and parents went to... speaking in tongues happened, laying of hands happened, and you had to have a prayer language.

My husband is different in that he does not do any of this.

Then, I assume he has no real desire to go there?
 
Some Christians believe that speaking in tongues is okay, some don't. I'm not going to argue either way here, but I'll encourage you to search out the matter for yourself, starting with Acts 2 and 1 Corinthians 12, 13 and 14.

The requirement to have a prayer language does not have broad scriptural support, so the concern would be in how hard they emphasize it.

I'm not trying to pry, but I'm wondering what your concern is. Does your husband still have some connection with this gal, or are you just curious about the practices of the church without reference to her?
 
When I was a kid I sometimes went with my family in "the south" to a Pentecostal church, and didn't notice much difference from anywhere else. Later I stumbled across another Pentecostal church that... well, scared me to be be honest,
it's all about the congregation (and the person visiting) , but, as others have said, they tend to have more focus on praying in tongues, and are perhaps a bit less formal than, say, Methodists

I am just curious as to all I know is what my husband told me regarding his former female friend.

He also told me that her mom was adamant that everything had to be done in order to go to Heaven, which he disagreed with.

No, he does not have any ties with his former female friend.

I got saved in a pentecostal Church. They were very good at explaining the gospel and bringing people to Christ.

I been a (Pentecostal) Christian since I got saved in 1983, you can find a short study Here that explains it in a simple way...
 
I am a Pentecostal minister. Not a pastor, just a local minister. I can tell you what my Pentecostal church is like. But I'm afraid that will not help you at all with this other person's Pentecostal church. The initial question is like asking what a Baptist Church is like... There is no way to give one answer because there are all kinds of churches that go under the general name.
 
I go to Spanish Pentecostal AG church in Manhattan. Basically we believe in baptism in water, baptism in the holy spirit, speaking in tongues is evidence of the holy spirit, but doesn't mean you're automatically going to heaven. Believing and following Christ, surrendering your heart to him is most important. For us in my church, we believe Women have a ministry, and we accept them taking high leadership positions. Women preaching in my church is not taboo and it's common place. In my church we don't believe in the extreme conservative dress code. The hope is come dressed in respect for the Temple, God's temple however you won't be saved by the clothes you wear. If you are a women and want to wear pants or jeans, (unless you're a leader or high ranking member) no one will judge you. They treat you the same, however if you have a special like reading scripture, worship, preaching, giving a testimony, at the alter, then you have to wear skirts.

Many believe we teach heresy and non biblical things. I can guarantee that is not true.
