Romans 10:10
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Romans 2:6-10
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Matthew 24:10-13
And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
Matthew 10:22
And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Hebrews 10:36
For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

1 Timothy 4:16
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Romans 11:19-22
Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.
Mark 13:9-13
“But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them. And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Mark 16:16
[SUP] [/SUP]He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

So if I don't help them, I still get to Heaven, right?

I will just refer you to Matthew 25:31-46 for your answer, so that you can not say my opinion.
The word of God tells us what happens to those who don't help, because they are denying the Lord.

I will just refer you to Matthew 25:31-46 .

Kenneth, your post is disqualified! You violated the purpose of the thread: This thread is to be confined to verses that have the word save, salvation, or Savior in them. Would you mind confining your input to such verses? Mat 25:31-46 fails the critierion.

All you would have to do is look up the word "Saves" in a bible concordance- such as biblegateway.com and it will give you all the verses with that word in it. But OK, I'll do one...

"...and this water symbolizes baptism that now SAVES you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It SAVES you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ," 1 Peter 3:21

Romans 10:10
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

That verse is on salvation. It is a bit of a mistranslation, however. Check your literal translation. The only confession required is agreeing with the Lord as to Who the Lord Jesus is, an accurate definition of the object of faith.

Romans 2:6-10
Violation of Thread! Save, salvation, and Savior do not occur in those verses!

John 3:5
Violation of Thread! Save, salvation, and Savior do not occur in those verses!
James 1:12
Violation of Thread! Save, salvation, and Savior do not occur in those verses!

Matthew 24:10-13
And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

The above passage is legit; "saved" occurs. And it refers to enduring persecution in the Tribulation, not salvation to a new birth or eternal life. But it is true that those who trust the Lord Jesus do endure to the end (the appointment is that the fruit abides, John 15; & 1 JOhn 2 says that those who are "of us" endure/abide.

Matthew 10:22
And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Again, this is enduring the persecution in the tribulation, not getting a new birth & eternal life.

Hebrews 10:36
Violation of Thread! Save, salvation, and Savior do not occur in those verses!
1 Timothy 4:16
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Legit verse, it has "save" in it.
Bible teaching contributes to spiritual health. The Word of God is a saving instrumentality.

Romans 11:19-22
Violation of Thread! Save, salvation, and Savior do not occur in those verses!

Legit vs, "saved" occurs. As is manifest in context, again this is enduring tribulation persecution relieved at the 2nd coming of Christ, not salvation to a new birth or eternal life.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Legit vs; "saved" occurs.
Water is not mentioned. Spirit baptism is salvific, water baptism, as a human work, is forbidden as a means of salvation, Eph 2. But while Spirit baptism is salvific, in that it puts one into the body of Christ, even that is not essential to salvation. Note that the 2nd part leaves it out, it is the disbeliever who is damned, not the unbaptized.

All you would have to do is look up the word "Saves" in a bible concordance- such as biblegateway.com and it will give you all the verses with that word in it.

And do you find it impressive how there are so many verses indicating salvation is by faith/belief plus nothing else???

But OK, I'll do one...

"...and this water symbolizes baptism [sic! mistranslation!]that now SAVES you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It SAVES you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ," 1 Peter 3:21

Let's give that one a more accurate translation:

"while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water; which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;"'

Water baptism is a figure or picture of salvation, not the essence of it. Washing the body of its dirt saves no one.

So if I don't help them, I still get to Heaven, right?

Last, I think you are in a thread violation. You are not quoting a verse with save, Savior, or salvation in it -- the topic of the thread.

"For by grace you have been SAVED through faith . . . not of works"

This is all about doing good deeds.
If you see some one in need, and you have the ability to help them then you are suppose to help them.
Jesus says that if you deny to help some one, then you are denying Him.

Thread violation, Kenneth. You are not quoting a verse or passage that has save, Savior, or salvation in it.

Atwood,

Actually, what you really mean is what you have interpreted it to mean. You have never shown you even understand what the Bible actually means and has meant from the beginning.

You have restricted this thread to ONLY your view which makes it quite meaningless.

But carry on......

Thread violation, Cassian. You are not quoting a verse or passage that has save, Savior, or salvation in it. And you are pontificating without scripture quote.

Here is one on-thread:

Thou shalt call His name Jesus, for
He shall save His people from their sins.

And do you find it impressive how there are so many verses indicating salvation is by faith/belief plus nothing else???

Let's give that one a more accurate translation:

"while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water; which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;"'

Water baptism is a figure or picture of salvation, not the essence of it. Washing the body of its dirt saves no one.

The topic and context of the verse is "Being saved" one is physical, the other spiritual- but both did indeed "Save". I can't see how someone can be saved physically by being baptized- so it has to mean spiritually. And it points this out- that it is not by physically removing dirt from your flesh but by a clear conscience toward God. So you would have to ask yourself, "What happened during baptism that caused one to be spiritually saved?" And Colossians 2:11,12 answers that. A circumcision took place- not in the flesh but in the heart, and it was performed by Christ. We know that we have to be IN Christ in order to be saved, and the bible says that baptism is how we get into Christ (Romans 6:3,4).

Here's one nobody ever likes to talk about... ;)

Romans 2:[SUP]6 [/SUP]He will render to each one according to his works: [SUP]7 [/SUP]to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life

Here's one nobody ever likes to talk about... ;)

Romans 2:[SUP]6
This is off-thread, as it the verse does not have save, Savior, or salvation in it.
[/SUP]
Greetings IAm3rd,
No doubt, like myself many times, I have jumped into a thread without reading the OP.

This Thread is dedicated to an examination of
what the NT says on the topic of "Salvation," strictly defined.

I am only interested in verses which speak of "salvation," not rabbit paths. I am only interested in verses that use one of these words:
Salvation, save(s), saved, saving, Savior; that is
verses that contain a word in the sōzō group:

NT VOCABULARY FOR SALVATION: SŌZŌ GROUP
(save, savior, salvation)

σζω = (I) save,
σωτήρ = Savior,
σωτηρία = salvation,
σωτήριος =pert. to salvation, saving, delivering, preserving, bringing salvation.

(transliterated: sōzō, s
ōtēr, sōtēria, sōtērios)

(Of course the above includes inflected & declined forms, like past tense ["saved"], infinitive "to save," future "will save," KJV "thou savest").

For starters here is a verse where the only MUST-I-DO for salvation is believe.

"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, & you shall be saved. (Acts 16).

This above saying is not an isolated instance; over & over in the Bible, salvation is presented only on the condition that man believes/has faith.

This thread is dedicated to what the Bible says, not to ecclesiastical & denominational recitations/pontifications -- long harangues devoid of scripture quotation. Of course if you don't have access to Greek, you may assume that when a literal Bible translation uses save, savior, salvation, the underlying Greek word is from thesōzō group.

There is no shortage of material on salvation in the NT.

This could be the theme verse:

Thou shalt call His name Jesus, for
He shall save His people from their sin.

He does the saving; believers are the saved, the savees. Here, as elsewhere, salvation is guaranteed to "His people." He shall save them from their sin. And that is eternal security of salvation.

A true Christian is one who, having realized they have sinned against a Holy God, have repented and laid down their life for the sake of Him who has laid down their life for them, out of love for the One who Loves them beyond measure.

The above is the signature of IAm3rd, and it is off topic as it does not refer to save, salvation, or Savior in some verse. The only repentance that saves is a change of mind from nonbelief to belief in Christ (repentance is metanoia = change of mind).

But get this:
I did a computer check and discovered that
the 2 words repent and save never occur in the same verse in the ASV anywhere!
Moreover, I did a non-exact search to bring up close variations & none came up (like repent & salvation). The ASV is a literal translation. Now if anyone has a verse where "repent" and save/salvation/Savior occur in the same verse, pleas post it. I don't think there are any such verses.

And if that is the case, postings on Repent are off topic in this thread.

I am generally not answering verses which are off-topic on this thread (verses that lack save, salvation, or Savior in them, since that is the topic of the thread). If anyone is bothered by something quoted or said and needs an explanation, send me a PM, and I will be happy to respond.

Kenneth, your post is disqualified! You violated the purpose of the thread: This thread is to be confined to verses that have the word save, salvation, or Savior in them. Would you mind confining your input to such verses? Mat 25:31-46 fails the critierion.
If this is part of a Christian forum, then posts requiring legalism seem out of place. So we are to legalistically follow your personal rules using your words, and forget all about the spirit and truth of scripture? I think you are the one in violation.

Interesting view, but very limiting. Do you include the verses where Jesus, or the bible writers say things along the lines of, "If you have this characteristic you will never see the kingdom of heaven."? How about those where it says, "If you have this characteristic then you are indeed a Christian."?

To be honest, there are almost 900 verses in the N.T. where the bible lists characteristics and says these will not see the kingdom of heaven, and these will be in the kingdom of heaven. Belief, "IN TRUTH", is indeed one of the characteristics. Unfortunately, there are many passages that talk about the unshakeable, unquestionable beliefs, coupled with zeal for God, where those with them are lost and headed for hell.

Belief that you believe the truth that is unshakeable, unquestionable ... is one of the number one signs of the religious lost.

The question is, do we want the truth of ALL that the scripture says and means on the topic of salvation, and rightly divide all of it, or do we do like most belief groups and gather all of the passages we can "use" to support our beliefs, and gather all of the passages we can "use" to refute all opposing beliefs and interpret everything in the light of our infallible beliefs.

Can anyone ever get to truth by gathering everything they can use to support their beliefs, and everything they can use to prove all opposing beliefs false, or is this methodology only employed by those with closed eyes and ears, who only want to prove their beliefs true?

Thread violatiion. YOu are pontificating. None of the above is scriptural. It is your rendition.

I think you have made a very astute comment. You have clearly grasped that this is all about proving Atwoodism.

Acts 2:40 - "save yourselves"
1 Tim 4:16 "save thyself"
1 Pet 3:21 "baptism doth also now save us"

Mt 24:`3 - "he that endureth unto the end, the same shall be saved"
Mk 16:16 - "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved"
Acts 2:21 - "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved"
Acts 2:47 - "the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved"
Rom 8:24 - "for we are saved by hope"
1 Pet 3:20 - "eight souls saved by water"

Phil 2:12 - "work out your own salvation"
Heb 5:9 - "he became the author of salvation unto all them that obey Him"

As noted by others, many salvic verses without the words save, saved, salvation or Saviour in them as Jn 3:16, Lk 13:3,5 or Mt 10:32,33.

Ironically not a single salvic verse that says "belief only" saves.

You are exactly right Cassian. Notice we must only use his chosen words or it doesn't count. Hilarious.

Maybe a better question:

how many verses can be found that says "belief only" saves but the word "only" cannot be added to or assumed into the verse thereby changing and perverting the verses but the word "only" must ALREADY appear in the verse by Divine inspiration?
