...Be Like?

“An old Scottish preacher had to go past a glass factory each day on his way
to the church. On one occasion he had a little extra time, and since the factory
door was open, he decided to look inside. There before him was a large, blazing
furnace. The minister gazed into the white, blue, and purple mass of liquid
flame, and the intense heat almost seared his face.

As he turned to leave, a workman standing in the shadows nearby overheard
him exclaim, ‘Ho mon! What shall Hell be like!’...

...As we know, the Lord, more than any other, warned about the danger of Hell
(Gr. gehenna) and hellfire. Most would agree this is the literal “Hell” of the Bible.
And the Lord had much to say about this realm.

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!...Ye serpents, ye
generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”
(Matt. 23:29,33)...

...He adds in Mark 9:43,44 that some will “go into hell, into the fire that never
shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not [apparently a reference to
the soul], and the fire is not quenched.” If they go “into Hell,” are we not to
understand that Hell is a place, and not merely a state of mind? The fire
that is said never to be quenched clearly coincides with the “everlasting
fire” prepared for the devil and his angels.

Furthermore, we know the fire is literal because the Lord Himself confirmed
this when He gave the interpretation of the parable of the wheat and tares
(Matt. 13:36-43)...

...But some will argue...

...the Apostle Paul gives us the most chilling description of Hell, that those
who enter through its gates will suffer everlasting destruction or loss of
wellbeing (II Thes. 1:9). They will be forever separated from the presence of
the Lord and the glory of His power.

As the old Scottish preacher exclaimed...

I could be wrong, but I see hell (in the commonly used sense of judgement) as God's nature as the "consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:29). There are many descriptions of God as consuming fire in the OT. The abiding response of sinners is terror. All the bravado, all rebellion and all pride will be consumed, with sinners desperate to hide from the presence of God. The universalist point of view fails at this point. Unbelievers will have no desire to be in God's presence, even if God opened heaven to them. Which He will not.

It's a great shame that preaching hell has gone by the wayside. Who seeks a saviour if they see no need? Yes, men need to know the love of God. But they also need to know that God is not to be messed with. People do reap what they sow.

Yes. Christ preached much about hell. His preachers must also, otherwise they are not preaching what He preached, but whatever they want. The thought of hell converts sinners to saints, it lifts our hearts up to the contemplation of the things that really matter, Heaven, Hell, Death and Judgment. Hell must be preached, along with God's Mercy in Christ Jesus, and Heaven also.

God Bless.

The immortality of the soul is new age, pagan, and spiritualism.

70 years of sin is not worth eternity in hell.
God is JUST. Hell is the forever state of death.

Hell or fire and flames are often mentioned as happening when Jesus returns.

2Pe 3:6-7 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
2Pe 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Mat 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 25:31 KJV When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:.....:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

From these verses the fires of hell will not start until the coming of Jesus so people are not burning in hell now.

Nope. Christ and the Bible say otherwise.

Mat 25:41 "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal."

Mark 9: "43If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell,e into the unquenchable fire.f 45If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.g 47And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.’h"

Rev 14:11: "And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name."

God Bless.

Where hell is located has been traditionally taught as a place in the centre of the earth or a giant chasm filled with flames that you can't escape from.

But this is a fairy tale. Invented in the dark ages.

The bible tells us the flames will cover the earth.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Zep 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

Jesus Christ said He will be in the "heart of the Earth" for 3 days and nights. That has traditionally indeed been understood to refer to hell, and so some Theologians say hell is indeed the centre or core of the Earth (and sorry flat-earthers, but this verse also proves the Earth is a Globe - only of a Globe can one say it's heart or centre as the Lord did here). But that is only a theological opinion. But that hell exists, has real fire, and burns eternally is very clear from numerous Bible passages.

God Bless.

Edit: the passage: "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Mat 12:40)

Also, beside Hell, the Church Fathers taught Purgatory, which means are some who are in the fire will go to Heaven later on, at least on Judgment Day after the Resurrection. See the references in St. Paul the Apostle and Church Father St. Cyprian below:

1 Cor 3:11 "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames."

"It is one thing to stand for pardon, another thing to attain to glory: it is one thing, when cast into prison, not to go out thence until one has paid the uttermost farthing; another thing at once to receive the wages of faith and courage. It is one thing, tortured by long suffering for sins, to be cleansed and long purged by fire; another to have purged all sins by suffering. It is one thing, in fine, to be in suspense till the sentence of God at the day of judgment; another to be at once crowned by the Lord." [Church Father St. Cyprian, d. 258 A.D. From: https://www.newadvent.org/fathers/050651.htm]

The Biblical principle is, some sinned in ignorance, and so are beaten with fewer stripes. Concerning that, the Lord said: "
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more."
(Luke 12:48)

Everlasting punishment = punishment that lasts forever..

Death for eternity = everlasting punishment.

Be careful....
Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

To Perish or to have eternal life.

If you burn forever, you have eternal life in hell, and Jesus worded this wrong.
Only the believers of Jesus (saved) live forever.

Perish = not live, die.

The verses you gave have all been explained... they need study.

The bible does not controdict itself.

I'll give some verses to show that those that perish really perish....

Mal 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

They burn only until there is nothing left to burn.

God plans to destroy the evil world.
Not make satan in charge of his own evil hell forever and ever.

Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Rev 20:10 KJV And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Before you say but it says....

For ever, everlasting etc...

There are two examples in the bible were the term "forever" meant an indefinite time, where the begining and end depended on the person and circumstances.

Many committed to stand forever againt or for something but things change. People commit to marrage forever but life ends.
"I'll forever need oxygen while alive."

1Sa 1:22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
Jon 2:6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

In rev 12.9 Satan is described as the one who "deceives the whole world". And this teaching that came from paganism in the dark ages has done more to turn people away from God and misrepresent God's character then any other.
God is a consuming fire that will never go out. But that fire only burns those that love evil, it burn sin and sinners.

Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Nah 1:5-6
5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
Nah 1:10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

Isa 33:14-15
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? 15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
Oba 1:16 ....., and they shall be as though they had not been.

The wicked will be punished and it will be everlasting.
Destruction forever.
2Th 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Gods glory will burn them.

Satan wants people to see God keeping people alive to burn another hour, and another year, and forever which is not merciful or just.

I don't see my God keeping sinners alive to burn for eternity, i see my God punishing the wicked and destroying them by His glory.

Sin will be no more.

God is an eternal almighty flame.
To those that are surrended to Gods love it will be life and attractive. But those that harden their hearts and hate righteousness the presence of God will cause guilt, shame and death.
God is LOVE and love doesn't torture people forever.

Re: What Will Hell Be Like?

People penned up in the netherworld may or may not be fully aware of all
they've lost. Many are doubtless aware of at least their loss of creature
comforts; but I'm not so sure they know about the bulk of their loss because
not even that many Christians are aware of all they've gained by their
association with Christ.

We today are living in what's sometimes called the church age; which is an
era that began with the day of Pentecost per Acts 2:1-2 wherein Christ has
been busy assembling the "my church" he spoke of in Matt 16:18.

The "my church" is very fortunate because it is a joint-heir (a.k.a. heir in
common) with God's son in his Father's estate. (Eph 1:11 and Rom 8:16 17)

A joint-heir is different than a regular heir. Regular heirs are apportioned an
individual percentage of their benefactor's estate. But joint-heirs inherit, not
a percentage, but the entire estate, as community property, i.e. whatever
the Father bequeathed His son, He bequeathed everyone associated with His
son.

For example: supposing a benefactor's estate totals 60 acres of land, 18
gold bars, plus a hedge fund worth 200,000 US Dollars; and he left it all to
six heirs in common. In that situation; the heirs are corporately one
beneficiary instead of six; viz: all six inherit all the land, all the gold, and the
entire fund as if each one were the only heir.

The extent of the Father's estate is astonishing. It encompasses not only all
that is in Heaven, but also all in the entire universe, plus whatever pertains
to the new cosmos spoken of in Isa 66:17, 2Pet 3:13, and Rev 21:1; and I
don't know what else.

John 3:35 . .The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his
hand.

John 16:15 . . All things that the Father has are mine

Point being: folks in today's era who fail to be accepted into the "my church"
will end up as miserable paupers in the afterlife, whereas those associated
with God's son will be wealthy and privileged beyond imagination.

Heb 2:5 . . It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come.

The Rich Man's Soul was in Hell. Annihiliationists say his Soul was not immortal or would be destroyed but it wasn't. Instead, it says, he was in the torment in the flame, which agrees with the traditional view of hell. And yes, I agree the wicked go to Hell. Why did this Rich Man go to Hell? Because he did not love God, and keep His Commandments, particularly the command to love his neighbor as himself, which he failed to do with respect to Poor Lazarus; he didn't give him even a morsel to eat, though he had an overflowing abundance of everything. Anyway, please see the passage. He is in torment and not destroyed in hell.

Luk 16:The Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

(Luke 12:48)
hell has an ending it ends at the final judgement all who are already in hell will be raised up from hell to be judged eternally

“And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20:13-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

hell is a current place that holds ungodly men for judgement

“And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:22-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

See life is still happening in earth while he’s in hell and while Lazarus is in Abraham’s house . he’s wanting to help those on earth his family so they don’t go there when they die

But when Christ returns it’s the end of this world when he will judge all things by Christ with his word. When Jesus returns everyone both good and evil will be raised even those in hell and everyone will face judgement considering whether they repent and receive remission of sins ( the lambs book of life is the gospel )

that last eternal judgement after the gospel has reached the ends of the earth

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life;

and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:25, 28-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s this day when all the dead must be raised for judgement

“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: ( the gospel )

and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life ( whoever rejected the gospel ) was cast into the lake of fire.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20:12-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

hell is a place in death reserved for the ungodly as a holding place until they are judged by the lord even hell woll
Face the eternal death because I’m the new creation after all things are passed away

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. ( lake of fire destroyed everything )

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:1, 4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

if the lake of fire was eternal it would be part of the new creation but there’s not going to be sorrow or pain or torment any longer the old things of this world are passed away

This is another view of the lake of fire to come in the end of all things

“but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:7, 9-11, 13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Or Paul

“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:7-9‬ ‭
