“Therefore what God has joined together, let no man seperate” - Matthew 19:6.

Even in the bible, a price is paid for a bride.

I challenge all you idealistic ones. Would you vote for a change in laws, that a plaintiff in a no-fault divorce, have to waive any claims to money or property?

Changes things, doesn't it?

Dory please ignore lynx as he has dismissed my raw but true statement that marriage is a license for nonsinful sex.....its just a fact...why else would someone get married other than sex....(yea there's the love riches stuff around it but the end goal is sex plain and simple..)

Lynx don't make me go dr. doom on you :P or call my megazord.......

I know some people who have married for sex. After they start getting older, when the wrinkles start showing up... they always get a divorce.

To me marriage is a partnership. Where two people used to be facing the world alone, on their own, now they are facing the world together.

Me, I'm still facing the world alone. But it would be nice to have a partner. If I ever got sick, or broke a leg, or something else happened to me, I don't know what I would do. Sometimes I wish I had a partner to be there for, and for her to be there for me.

Sex? Well I've made it 40 years without it so far. I don't think that's a big factor for me. But I know it plays a major part of some people's decisions. It's kind of sad.

I'll start from afar, I found my favorite on the site ukReine. Why did I get married ?! It's simple. She is a wonderful person, and we decided to start a family. I personally married only so that she understood that I adore her, it is important to her.

I know you're joking, but marriage is what God uses to describe His relationship with the church. So I would tread carefully.

I am not joking, and I shall not tread carefully.

All the things people can describe as a reason for marriage, if you exclude sex, those reasons, things, or qualities can be found in a relationship with someone you are not married to. I could just hang out with a guy, and not be lonely, have a parnership, have love..... all those things, except sex.

Therefore we get married just to have sex, and reproduce. It cost something tangible to be married, therefore marriage is legalized prostitution.

I made a point earlier in this thread about changing marriage laws.... no one has responded to it.

If everyone was willing to enter a marriage, knowing there would be no financial benefit, I would change my mind.

Actually we had a thread a while ago about prenups I think it was (you like digging up threads, I'll let you hunt if you want) where I took pretty much that position. Then another member brought up the situation of abandonment (if a guy abandons his wife and isn't supporting her and their kids at all, but doesn't file divorce because he doesn't want to pay) and how sometimes filing was the only way for the woman to get the support her "husband" should be giving to his family.

The problem with this statement is that many non-Christian couples who are having extramarital sex, still want to get married (at least one of them often does). If marriage were only about sex, this wouldn't be a thing.

hahaha im not overly idealistic so i figured you didnt mean me
well personally laws dont effect how i see marriage one way or the other

and all levels of intimacy from hugging to sex are something im looking for in marriage

but it will not be the SOLE reason i marry

but id like what a biblical marriage offers as a whole
(which mainly means a WIFE to help me..... sex is just one thing we can do but it would be having that loving woman that makes me desire a wife)

marriage isnt just the a law from man

you KNOW this

if anything the aspect of marriage youre talking about when you mention finance is the part i care the least about

(though.... you have taken a heavy blow in this regard so i understand your pain leaves you with a different perspective than i have)

I think it's important to go back to Adam and Eve to find the meaning of marriage.

It's far more than a sex license though that is one of its practical ramifications.

As far as I can tell it's:

1. A covenant between two people and God.

2. A mechanism by which man and woman complement each other in the pursuit of working in God's Garden. A true partnership.

3. The foundational agreement upon which a nuclear family is built and the broader family is extended.

The union of husband and wife in heart, body, and mind is intended by God for their mutual joy; for the help and comfort given one another in prosperity and adversity; and, when it is God’s will, for the procreation of children and their nurture in the knowledge and love of the Lord. Therefore marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God.

In all 50 states, abandonment is a cause for divorce.

A plaintiff in a no-fault divorce should be required to waive entitlement to all money and capital.

You have to really dig the irony.

im just saying that marriage is just an institution to have sex with someone in a non-sinful way....those doing it outside of marriage are obviously in sin...

marriage is sort of God's approval/checkmark saying you can go do it with another person and that you have to now stick with that person except for abuse/adultery......

without marriage people are committing fornication plain and simple.....
