Howdy, Singles!!

As Christmas approaches... A few things come to mind. That Christmas sweater only your Grandma would wear (and even then, she might have hesitations.) The 8th pair of socks you've gotten that day... all in colors that clash with the clothes you normally wear (pastel argyle, anyone?) Books you'll never read (sorry, I'm not into country western extraterrestrial romances.)

And, most recently... Many of you know my various issues with sugar. I am a self-entitled "Sugar-Rexic." If I have sugar available to me in most any form (candy, cupcakes, ice cream... my inner addict isn't picky), I will pretty much compulsively eat nothing but those products until they are gone. My only way of coping is to try to keep almost all sweets out of the house.

So what does one of my best friends get me for Christmas??!!! I have now decided there are two kinds of friends--those who love you... and those who are trying to kill you!!! She very proudly handed me a box... and when I opened it, I discovered a three, YES, THREE, pound box of chocolates staring back at me. I've never even had a boyfriend who got me that big of a box of candy.

"Oh Kim," she said, "I'm sorry, but when I saw it, I just thought of you and had to get it for you!!" I asked her if she'd gone insane!!! To top that off, yet another friend got me a beautifully decorated container... of Dove milk chocolates.

*Sigh*. I will officially remember 2011 as "The Year My Friends Conspired to Kill Me." I LOVE my friends, but I need that chocolate like I need a hole in the head, antennae growing out of my forehead, or a third arm. All I can say is, if by some chance I receive a pair of skinny jeans for Christmas, I am in SERIOUS trouble. Managing to get even a toe into them could pose a definite challenge.

How about all of you? Tell us your stories about those gifts where, when you said, "Oh, you shouldn't have!", what you really meant was, "You REALLY shouldn't have!!" :)

When I was 16 I made the mistake of telling my mom I wanted to learn how to play the drums so she bought me this:

...needless to say I got a little more specific with my gift requests after that lol.

Why didn't you like that? Oh you wanted a real drumset. Nevermind. Do u play now?

A reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally ugly dress. I was looking through a catalog and turned down the corner on a page showing a dress I liked for MY future reference. My hubby MEANT well....he bought the dress on the OTHER side of the page. :D It was made out of something that looked like a coral chenille bedspread like my greatgramma would have had.

Yep...I actually wore the dress and never told him. :)

I ask zeroturb to forward all his sweaters to me (provided they are either size M or L)

For me? This one ugly ornament I received from a family member. Actually several. Seriously, if I wanted to adorn my tree with plywood, I would have taken an axe to my dad's work bench.

I actually would send them to you Ritter, but I gave them all away. I don't get them anymore since I now live where its warm.

All those little plastic toys that could've been avoided through out all those years... What a waste of money.

LOL! that's so funny!

I hate when people give you clothes and you dont like them! it's soooooooooooooooooo awkward.... when people give me something i dont like i just smile and try to give them a convincing I LOVE IT! THANK YOU! :) and then i try to avoid any further conversation about it that would reveal my true feelings... but then they are all like CAN YOU TRY IT! CAN YOU WEAR IT NEXT WEEK?

I know I'm fat and all, but I really didn't want a stack of diet, and psychology books for Christmas. That probably was the worst gift I ever got.

Snailracer's post reminded me that the Christmas I was pregnant with my son my husband asked my mom what she thought I would like for Christmas. I'd mentioned to her how concerned I was about getting back into shape after the baby was born and that I was thinking of getting an exercise bike or something I could use at home while I was with my son rather than trying to find time as a new mom to go to the gym or whatever. I had also mentioned to my husband that my keyboard was pretty banged up..*hint hint*...

So....one afternoon I was sitting on the couch looking at the Christmas tree...PREGNANT LADY HORMONES TOTALLY RAGING....and I looked at the gift he'd wrapped for me, which I had assumed was a keyboard (and was so proud of him for catching on)...and I thought....hmmmm...that's waaaaaay too big for a keyboard. So I started trying to guess what it might be and remembered what I'd told my mom...and started SOBBING uncontrollably. :) He called me from work while I was still crying and I didn't want to say why...but I finally asked him if it was an exercise bike. He was VERY quiet and asked...."Ummmm....why?"

Needless to say, the bike disappeared and was replaced by a new coat. :)

Guys...let this be a warning...NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER get your pregnant wife anything that might even remotely ..in her WILDEST imaginings...suggest that she is not the most gorgeous woman on the planet to you..ESPECIALLY EXERCISE EQUIPMENT!

REMEMBERING THIS COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!

P.S. - He never asked my mom's advice re: gift giving again EVER :D

It is funny, Ms. K! :D And sad too :(

Good. My wife will probably only get books as it is.

Just make sure they're not all books about diet and exercise :D. (Even if she ASKED for diet/exercise books... don't do it. Get her a gift card just to be safe. ;) )
