When did the Law expire?

I was not talking about the 'letter of the law but the keeping of the Commandments in the love of Christ. If they were only to lead us to/as far as Christ then Christ would be lawless had they died with Him. That is utter nonsense---Jesus is the same yesterday as today and always--- so if He was walking this earth today He would keep His Fathers Commandments-period...or it would not be the same Jesus Mat 24v5, some people need to take a closer look at this.

Or by spending your day loving others, and seeing God how God wants you to use you in there life?

You can not have it both ways, it has to be a focus on the law. Or a focus on others and God.
 
I see that some are already on their upward swing to dominating with their doctrine again. What was that rule? Oh, yeah, #7..... something about not bring that crap into a thread that doesn't talk about it. That's my interpretation of it, anyway.....;)

It says you can do all things, It leaves out the fact that it is ONLY through Christ, who gives us the power (strength) to do them.

Religion wants to take credit, to boast. Then yell at people who wants to rely on God. And boast of Gods power. Not their own. And say they just want to have an excuse.

Since when is relying on the power of God an excuse not to do things.

Wake up people. Before it is too late.

yep lets notice what Steven did.

1. He highlighted, "I can do all things" In big bold letters and even changed the color. To let us all know. This is what he spoke of.
2. He was called out. Because he put the focus on SELF, and not on God (otherwise he would have bonded the WHOLE thing in big letters, But no.
3. He stated that some people use it as an excuse to not do anything, when in reality they are giving GOD the credit fort the work they do(Also known as deflecting the issue) and when called out on it, He did not even r4espond to it.

Then he calls me th wicked judge, When he himself has been proven to the a judge.

It's ok STeve, most people see right through this..

this precedent priest is not very good which is repeated but not take away sins

Where does 2 Timothy 3:12, Matthew 10:22 come into play? Genesis 2:2 is not part of any Covenant. Then there is Romans 14:5,6. 2 Timothy 2:16. Why do you single out the 4th Commandment people for persecution? The 10 Commandments are a package deal under either Covenant in my mind. I know that you know the truth.

Let's take this a little further. Please help me understand where you are coming from. These stories actually happened by the way. I am not judging these people either, these are known facts. I too am a sinner also.

A church school/college educated "seasoned" pastor, with a beautiful wife and 2 kids, attempts to rape a 14 year girl in the church attic. Where did he go wrong, or, did he even go wrong? I would guess that he would look you in the eye and tell you that he was Christian, accepted, and loved Christ. Encourage you to do the same and also that he had no problem sleeping at night. Is he in Christ? Another Pastor preaches perfection from the pulpit, and that same night is seen doing quite the opposite with a young woman. Are these Pastors in sin under either Covenant? Or, just the Old Covenant? Are these overseers using the The New Covenant as an excuse for their behavior? It's ok, Jesus Christ will pick up the tab?

If someone claims to be in Christ, and goes to Church most Sunday's, but is a thief and liar at work during the week? Would they then be a sinner under either Covenant?

Where does this fit into your interpretation of the New Covenant? How many fallen Pastor stories do you want? If you look at what is going on in both Protestant and Catholic Churches, and the entire world today, there simply has to be a problem with someone's interpretation of something.
 
Those with itching ears are desperately looking for some shred of self-respect for which they can congratulate themselves. Something, anything, they can do. Anything but free grace. Nothing humiliates and angers the proud more than being told there is nothing they can do. It’s why so many rail against the grace of God….it takes them and their works out of the equation and makes it rightly all about Jesus.

It simply says that you still need to follow laws to act. Grace is to save you from where you fail, it's not for you to do your fleshly wills without limit. Though it boils down to which set of laws you are going to follow.


In a nutshell,
The sets of laws specified in a covenant somehow has the added effect.

Gentiles (it's all humans before the Jews) need to follow the "Law in Heart" which God gives us as our conscience and moral code.

Later on, Mosaic Law was given for the Jews to follow, it however by no means says that they no longer need to follow their conscience or moral code in heart to act. As Jesus pointed out, some laws Moses set so because their hearts are hard, that is, the set of laws in the form of conscience and moral code goes corrupted in their hearts. Still God will consider them righteous as long as they can abide by Mosaic Law to a said standard (with Moses as the accuser).

Even today if by bloodline or custom or religion you claim to be a Jew, you need to follow the Mosaic Law to act. As a Jew however you have the advantage of choosing to be a gentile. That is, under the circumstance that you failed to or choose not to follow Mosaic Law to act, then you are now no longer under the Old Covenant signed with Moses but rather under the covenant granted to the Gentiles.

Similarly, today we are all gentiles thus need to follow our conscience to act. Our conscience may be a corrupted one though. It is because our version of conscience is corrupted that there's no much hope there for us to abide by it fully. We will fail at some point which will lead to our death. We thus need to New Covenant. The New Covenant is to save us from the situation how we failed. It by no means says that we no longer need to act in accordance to our conscience and moral code (a corrupted copy though).

The confusion however comes from whether we as gentiles need to follow Mosaic Law mentioned in OT. The answer should be no. Mosaic Law is for the Jews to abide by. However, it is very possible that the core commandments are common and overlapping in all covenants. So most of the 10 commandments may be found in each and every covenants, including our New Covenant, as Jesus Christ put it,

Amen...it is all by grace through faith in what Christ has already done.

As we have received Christ - in the same manner is how we walk in Him - all by grace through faith.

Colossians 2:6-7 (NASB)

You are truly one who understands ! and I thank you for not falsly condemning me ! there is no question that we can do anything of and by ourselves, of course we can't ! and we will always know Christ as our source of strength - it does not mean we will remain helpless and useless to God.. There is work to be done in eternity and we must become strong like Jesus so God our Father can use us in His work ! Had God not been able to depend on Jesus doing HIS part where would WE be ??

I don't have in my mind that I will just always sin and that's the end of the matter.
I see that if I abide in Him I don't sin!
So I strive to completely abide and trust only in Him for everything. :)
It says if we abide in Him we don't sin.
It doesn't say if we abide in Him we will always still sin.

Sometimes it feels to me like we refuse to grab the promise in that verse and run with it because we know deep down that we plan on keeping our rights and pride and arrogance and self defense and self love...instead of giving it up.

Paul who knew the law better then anyone had this to say about the purpose of the law.


The purpose of the law was :

1) To reveal our sinful state - Rom 3:20

2) To inflame sin - Rom 7:8

3) To minister death in us - Rom 7:10-11

4) To lead us to Christ - Gal 3:24

The law is good, holy and spiritual but we are in the flesh. Jesus fulfilled all the law!
When we read the law we should be seeing Jesus in it. Jesus did not save us so that we could go back to the law.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is how we live now, and the law of liberty in Christ Jesus and the law of love, the law of faith ( the Law is NOT of faith - the just shall live by faith ). The law of Christ - Himself is how we live now.

But the purpose of the law was not for righteousness or salvation at all, it was to manifest sin in our lives, so that the purpose of grace which is in Jesus is to manifest salvation. Grace does not set aside the law, but completely satisfied it.

Christians are dead to the Law, been released from the Law and are NOT under the Law. It can't get any plainer than that.

People are free to do whatever they want in relation to the Law - it does not make one righteous nor is it for salvation.

If someone wants to observe a particular day , festivals or eat or not eat some kinds of foods..etc - then they are free to do so.
These have no bearing on one's salvation or righteousness as all that is based on the finished work of Christ.

It's where people are saying "You must observe these things or do these things in the Law or you are not obeying God" - that's where the twisting comes in and it is a perversion of the gospel of the grace of Christ.


This is an anti-Christ belief system religion which has the "appearance" of good but it is really denying the Lord Jesus Christ's finished work.

It is time for the body of Christ to enter into God's finished works and rest in what Christ has already done for us in His work.

Few can come to any agreement upon this subject!! LOL But just for the fun of it,let us look at a couple of things we may wish to consider about the law,and then you can decide whether you should keep it or receive what Jesus gave with his own blood instead of the sorry law. First I am not a jew to start with,therefore the law which was written was never for me to start with! Rom 2:12-16!

Why was there a law to start with anyway one may ask.Exodus 19:8!!!Underline if you will these 3 words,we will do! The explanation in the Hebrew sintext is quite long,so to cut to the chase I will make it simple. The Hebrew people no longer wished to receive God's grace,they wished to be judged by there own works! God was very angry at this!

Notice if you will from reading further that now God comes to Moses in a thick cloud,and that the people now cannot come to the mountain of God without dieing! Exodus 19:9-13!!! God was so angry at this,he further made things even more impossible for the jews by giving them something he knew they could never keep! Exodus 20:The ten commandments!And yes the Ten commandments are a part of the very same old Covenant!( Exodus 34:28-29!) This inferior law was given for a very specific purpose by God,this is not to say the law was bad in any way! The purpose of the law was to show the jews themselves that they also needed a savior!! The law was written so that 2 things would happen.

1. the knowledge of sin would be reveled!( Rom 3:19-20 and!!! hope you sitting down for this next one!! LOl AND!!!! so that sin would actually increase because of the law!!! Rom 5:20! Which of course sin did! If we wish to stay under this law then the New Covenant commands we keep the whole law,not just a part of it!( james 2:10-13!!) Today I am under the New Covenant,you can decide for yourself what Covenant you are under for yourself.

Under the new for those of us who believe Jesus fulfilled the law and thereby ended that law.( Rom 10:4!) Notice please to all who do what??? Correct!!! believe! Our only work in Christ!!( John 6:28-29) Be careful how you built your house!( 1 Cor 3:10-11!!!) and 2Cor 3:5-18!!!) Moses worn a veil so that the Glory of God would not show upon others, but as time went on as we see here Moses worn the veil to cover up that the glory of God was fading away!

Hence the letter kills! the very letter of the law,but the Holy Spirit gives life! Example for you to see. Under the law 3000 people died! Exodus 32:28 Under Holy Spirit 3000 souls were saved!!! ( Acts 2:41!!) A HUGE difference in the covenants! Another example, from old to new. 2 Kings 1:12! Now look at the large difference in the new!! ( Luke 9:54-56!!!) There is no both! We live under one or the other! ( Hebrews 8:4-13!!!)

The law was only a shadow of what was,not is!( heb 10:1) Jesus Christ completed something we could never complete! Jesus, Superior to both the prophets and Moses!( Heb 1 and heb 3!) SO!!! What is the law written upon our hearts one may ask? ( John 13:34-35!) and bear one anothers burdens and fulfill the very LAW of CHRIST!! ( Gal 6:2!) Jesus has completed everything,all we have to do to understand his grace, is twofold,1. understand that grace instructs us!( Titus 2:11-12) and 2. BELIEVE!!!!! I hope this has helped many of us,and before you get mad at me,please do consider scriptures I have placed for you to observe for yourself to see if what I am saying is truth. One final note. Heb 6:4-6 is not talking about OSAS or the opposite of it,it is talking here about those who go back to the law instead of receiving what only Jesus could complete! ( Gal 5:4!!) On the other hand, do you expect that the Grace should allow you to get the licence to sin?

If not then, what limits you is the law.

We should look at it in a positive way though,

1 Peter 1:14-16 (NIV2011)

[SUP]15 [/SUP] But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

If only people were more clear as to 'which laws they mean !
Broadly speaking there are the 'spiritual Law or Commandments given by GOD personally to the people Ex 20v1, Deut 5v22 -
and then there are the 'Works of the law/commandments contained in ordinances and only temporal given through Moses until Christ.
The spiritual Commandments are eternal, holy, just and good Rom 7,
while the 'works commandments were abolished on the cross Eph 2v15; Col 2v14.

What we get is a lot of arguments about the 'LAW ---lumping them all together as 'one and the same'. That just is not true and is the reason for all our disagreements.

We are to 'put difference between what is holy/spiritual and what is unhole/secular Lev 10v10 ....it is a 'foundational principle and essential for reaching the Truth. Mix them together (as Christians are doing) and you get ERROR/disgreement and divisions ! Christianity is broken, splintered into thousands of different beliefs/denominations. That should not be so !

the Laws authority ends at a persons death. we are taught that by faith , we died to the whole Law of moses. BUT, Jesus Gave every relevant part of the Law in His ministry. He fulfilled the entire mosaic Law, and God re established a covenant through Jesus , the "second moses"

if the first covenant was fulfilled, and rendered " obsolete" then the True "law" that gives freedom are the words of Jesus. stated another way

Jesus completed the Law of moses, and Spoke all the commands of God in His ministry. all of the sacrificial, cleansing rites, observances of festivals, purification works ect. those things arent taught by the Lord Jesus. His gospel is Gods eternal Word and all of the righteousness of the Law, is found in the gospel.
