I want to discuss when the Law ended :)

You,must first define and have everyone agree to discuss what you perceive the Law to be before you can discuss its ending....

From your words it seems you refer to the old covenant.

Personally I would ask when, people think the new Covenant was established and it's effect in this world?

Then ask if the laws of the old covenant still apply to the world today, and people who are not in the new Covenant? (another thread I know but one most who post want to discuss it appears,)

Matthew 5:17-20

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Now, the blood ordinances have been done away with because Christ nailed them to the cross.

The Law ended for us when we came to Christ.

But the Spiritual fulfillment of the Law will never end. Which pretty much just confuses this subject...

I want to discuss when the Law ended :)

Just tell us which law you mean ! is it the eternal/spiritual law/Commandments given personally by God to the people --or
do you mean the works/ordinances given thru Moses ?

Which was abolished and ended on the cross ?

Romans 7 Do you not know, brothers and sisters—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only during that person’s lifetime? 2 Thus a married woman is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives; but if her husband dies, she is discharged from the law concerning the husband. 3 Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man, she is not an adulteress.
4 In the same way, my friends, you have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God. 5 While we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. 6 But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we are slaves not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.

The law of Moses is the one that those in Christ have died to, are released from and are not under. This includes the 10 commandments.

Paul said that coveting was brought out in him by the hearing of the Law. The law did it's job and exposed his need for a Savior.

There is no such thing as "separating out the Law"...that is a man-made tradition so that they can say we live by the 10 commandments. We live by the life of Christ now who fulfilled the Law not by the keeping of external laws.

Romans 7:7-9 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET."

[SUP]8 [/SUP] But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.

Maybe I am misconstruing this.

I see the Law as a contractual arrangement made between God and Israel.

The contract is:

Do this and I will do this in return
Do that and I will do that in return

The contract had a release clause insofar as Jesus released the Israelites from the conditions of the contract, but only, so to speak, if they allowed him to countersign the original agreement.

For the others, the original contract remained in force.

Was there an expiry date for the contract?

We are not bound to cerimoinal laws as a mere shadows. They can do nothing to make a persons conscience which is desperately wicked and beyond repair more complete. As in who could know it? One day it excuses a person the next it condemns them .

God is greater than the fallen conscience( heart) The soul was separated from God . We receive a new heart and a new spirit that will never die at our rebirth. .

The reformation which you seem to avoid has come as it is written .

What time period do you think it was restored to?

All of it, as it applies to us, when we came to Christ.

So why is Jesus saying he did not come to destroy the law. You seem to be saying we can now live in sin since there is no law/Commandment to break. Yet SCRIPTURE tells us we have to stop sinning---I believe the word of God.

The 10 Commandments were given by God personally - the rest of them came through Moses - that separates them ---unless you are one of those people who refuse to hear GOD anymore Ex 20v19, Deut 5v27, seems you are only listening to Moses whose law/works/ordinances indeed were abolished by Jesus dying on the cross Eph 2v15. Jesus did not die for somsthing that was spiritual, holy, just and good.

Moses'law does not include the 10---only insofar as he was told to re-iterate all the law to the people seeing they would not hear God again.

I wonder if the Son of the Father expired the sins of the son of the father?

Paul who knew the Law better than anyone --says that the 10 commandments are the Law. Sorry...there is no separating them no matter how much we were religiously taught in church.

Here is Paul saying without a doubt that "coveting" is in the Law...unless coveting is not one of the 10 commandments. Is this true? Coveting is not one of the 10 commandments anymore?

“For this is the covenant [that Christ is coming to establish, you’ll read in Hebrews 8:10]
… I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts. …”

Is, "thou shall not covet" one of the 10?

*and now I see Grace777x70 beat me to it.....;)

Here is a great article that speaks about what is written on our hearts now that we are in Christ. I like to use this website as it has at the bottom a place where you can ask questions and sometimes I learn from that area a lot.

The Law Written on Our Hearts is not the Ten Commandments

law-in-our-hearts.jpg

This is the covenant I will make with them after that time,” says the Lord. “I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” (Heb 10:16)

“This is obviously a reference to the law of Moses,” says the law-preacher. “The Ten Commandments were written in stone, now they’re written in the hearts and minds of God’s people.”

Not true. Here are seventeen reasons why God has not written the Ten Commandments on your heart:

1. The law inflames sin (Rom 5:20) and the strength of sin is the law (1 Cor 15:56). Why would God want to stir up sin in your life?

2. The law condemns (2 Cor 3:9), yet there is no condemnation to those in Christ.

3. The law ministers death (2 Cor 3:7), but God wants you to enjoy abundant life.

4. Law and grace don’t mix. You are under grace, not law (Rom 6:14).

5. Living by the law will alienate you from Christ (Gal 5:4).

6. Living by the law is cheating on Jesus (Rom 7:1-6). Why would God do anything to encourage spiritual adultery?

7. We’re to live by faith but the law is not of faith (Gal 3:12). The law encourages us to depend on ourselves instead of Jesus.

8. Those who live under the law are under a curse (Gal 3:10). Why would God curse those he has blessed?

9. The law binds and enslaves (Rom 7:6), but Jesus wants you free.

10. The law keeps you immature for it makes nothing perfect or complete (Heb 7:19).

11. We have died to the law so that we may serve in the new way of the Spirit and “not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6).

12. When there has been a change of priesthood, the law must be changed also (Heb 7:12). For God to write the old law on our hearts would be like saying Aaron is greater than Jesus.

13. God found fault with the law-keeping covenant and made it obsolete (Heb 8:7,13). Why would God insult his Son’s sacrifice by giving you the very thing his sacrifice rendered obsolete?

14. The law is a shadow of the good things to come and not the reality (Heb 10:1). Why would God give you the shadow instead of “the good thing”?

15. The Jews considered the law to be ordained by angels (Heb 2:2). If so, says the author of Hebrews, then it is inferior to the gospel of Jesus (Heb 1:4). Why would God give you an inferior gift?

16. Some Christians think that God gives them the law as a guide to live by, but why would God want you to repeat the mistake of the Galatians (Gal 3:2)? Why would God do anything to make you fall from grace?

17. The old law-keeping covenant required an accounting or remembering of sin, but the new covenant is characterized by God forgiving and forgetting on account of Jesus (Heb 10:17). If the law that God writes in our hearts is the law of Moses, then Jesus died for nothing.

If God has written the Ten Commandments on your heart and mind, you should be able to list all ten with no trouble. Can you? What’s the seventh commandment? You can’t do it because it’s not there, and a very good thing that is too! If the law that God writes in our hearts is the law of Moses, you’re in big trouble.

The good news is that God has written in us a far better law. What is this new and better law?
