When a child asks, ''What is the rain?'' I like to tell them that it's God's tears. When they ask why God is crying, I like to tell them, ''Probably because of something you did.''.
You should've had an all of the above answer. I've cried for all the reasons listed...... except for torture, or birth of a child. I haven't cried over physical pain since I was like, 11. But, next time I get a paper cut at work, I'm letting loose.

Call me a nancy all you want folks, but I cry everytime I read the end of watership down. Its just so well written you end up getting attatched to those rabbits.
Other than that, Crying is an outward display of emotional or physical pain. Some people have higher tolerances for both. Frankly I'd be concerned if my spouse didn't cry.

I saw an animated version of the Watership Down story as a child... and was scarred for life!!

In all honesty, I don't think a man should cry easily. In other words, he should not cry as soon as the situation occurs. He has to at least bear some of the pain and at least put in an effort to not cry.
Why? I believe that when a man is allowed to cry in tough situations, it becomes a habit, and what you have is a man who does so much crying. Crying helps relieve pain, sure. However, a man has to have a better handle of his emotions because life goes on, and there are responsibilities that need to be met. I've done a bit of crying myself. And what I noticed about myself, is that when I'm crying, I have this pity party and it's all about "me me me" and I want others to feel sorry for me. Also, I stop my pursuit of my goals because I'm crying.
Crying has it's place and it's okay to cry, but crying should not be a characteristic a man is known for. He's gotta bear the pain, wipe his tears, be a soldier and handle business.

i didn't read everyone's comments but i hope it is along the lines of..... it is ok for a guy to cry whenever he needs to cry.
Are we really trying to stick with these outdated and damaging beliefs of what masculinity is?

Yeah Watership Down definetly does it for me too, but they're manly tears I saw the animated programme when I was young and that was really sad, haven't read the book for a long time, maybe it's time again.
The idea that a man can cry but only in private is a bit ridiculous, it may be uncomfortable for some people to witness but it's not something anyone can choose to do, it comes when it comes and the idea a man should stifle his feelings and not express himself naturally in the moment because someone might be made uncomfortable is crazy, and quite frankly a selfish attitude in my opinion.
If someone is crying they're either in a moment of great joy or great sorrow and it's right they let out the feelings and not bury them until they're alone, at which point they can't be released in the same way, cannot save up the emotins and choose when to vent, it comes and then goes, you let it out or you force yourself to keep it in.

I believe that it is acceptable for a man to show his emotions whenever and whatever type of situaution that he feels moved to do so. I am totally against the sterotype that mean seem "soft" or "too emotional" or "sensitive" when they cry, because I believe that God created men with a heart and emotions, that God himself desire that men openly express. In fact when a man is not comfortable with showing his emotions I believe it is a signal of insecurity because I believe a man that has high self esteem and he is secure within himself will view crying as being is just as natural as talking. Although, seeing a man cry can be a little awkward at first it should be accepted by all and it should not deframe the image any man. Also, if a man cries for whatever reason i believe that he is more likely to fully be free in his worship and devotion to God simply because he is not afraid to pour his heart out before the master instead of bottling it up in the inside.
