Luke 24
44Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.” 45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
46And He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and in His name repentance andd forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things.
I took special note of this context earlier and, whenever I find myself doing that, I wondered where it might fit within these discussions.
Other than a footnote (d) that some translations say repentance for, rather than and, there's no cross reference for verse 46 that is otherwise usual whenever we encounter a "it is written" reference. But here, Jesus is summarizing the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.
And 1Jn 1 declares 'the Word of life' and 'Walking in the Light," where 1Jn 1:7 tells us, "Butb if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin." And this is followed with vv. 8-10
8If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
That is, "if we say we have no sin... His word is not in us" and so we are not walking in the light nor have fellowship with neither one another, nor the Father and His Son Jesus Christ as 1Jn the context of 'the Word of life' tells us:
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life. 2And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. 4We write these things so that oura joy may be complete.
An interesting observation is that it seems that 'this fellowship of ours' isn't quite complete until everyone in it receives this Word of life.
