I checked fb out of blue, sort of catching up with old acquaintances' lives - kids are growing up fast, good/sad stories, and a few surprises as well. One of the surprises was a gal from a former job is now running for Congress. So..

If you would have to nominate a CC member from Singles:

(1) who would you nominate,
(2) for what position, and most importantly
(3) why?

PS: self-nomination permitted.

I would not nominate any CC member for Congress.

That has become such a low and amoral job that I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Plenty of people around CC, even those I often debate AGAINST, have wisdom, intelligence, good character, and gifting to do all kinds of things.
I pray they will all reach higher than a position in congress.

I hear you - and maybe that's more reason for Christians to be in politics.

Hmm... most of the people here who are my friends would not be a good fit for Congress. They are almost as nutty as I. And I myself would DEFINITELY not be a good fit.

I don't know much about her, but from what I do know... I think cinder would be the best candidate for Congress from CC. She has a no-nonsense approach to everything and could cut through the junk and maybe even get something accomplished. Maybe. It takes a lot to get anything done in Congress, but cinder would have a better shot than the rest of us.

Theology vs Feasibility

I was really just voicing my general disgust with politics;
I wasn't trying to make a philosophical argument.

I think it is theologically sound for a Christian to enter politics, to make his country a better place, IF he genuinely feels led to do that.

So I think it is theological sound.
I just don't think it is terribly feasible.

A- I don't think many Christians would be comfortable living and working in a cesspool.
B- I don't think many Christians would be comfortable with powerful people exerting virtually unbearable pressure on them to compromise their beliefs... and this on a continual basis with no reprieve from the pressure.
C- I don't think most christians would enjoy being slandered 24/7, ACROSS THE GLOBE IN INTERNATIONAL PRESS, for things they didn't even do. (Imagine what a famous pastor goes through, them multiply that by a million.)
D- I don't think it's that easy to win an election contest if you have ethical rules for yourself, but your opponent will quite literally DO ANYTHING to win.
E- Furthermore, although it would be good to have Christian leaders in politics, there are things which are simply MORE IMPORTANT than politics which constitute a HIGHER CALLING.... there are simply things which are more important.
F- I could go on.... but I won't, lol.

So, in all fairness, I don't personally see any theological problem with a Christian being in politics.
But I do think there are feasibility issues.

:)

Also, I didn't mean to be a wet blanket on an otherwise fun and harmless thread.

It's a perfectly fun idea for a thread.

But when someone mentions "congress"... I just get shivers, lol.

Have fun guys.

I can't nominate anyone for Congress, not being an American citizen.

I can nominate someone to bring me cookies though.
