Sure it's evil or a test ?
whatever is pure, whatever is right, whatever is true ,think upon "these things" ...
Remember , darkness "occurs when when we are "separated from Him"
Let's see what the word says about "testing "

Luke 8:13
Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of (testing)they fall away.

Hebrews 3:8
do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of (testing) in the wilderness,

Ezekiel 21:13
“‘Testing will surely come. And what if even the scepter, which the sword despises, does not continue? declares the Sovereign Lord.’

it's not evil its (testing)
God is not evil .. :)
Blessings

For those who benefit from it, no, it is not evil at all for: Hebrews 12:10 "For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness."

But for those who have not right hearts and allow themselves to be crushed to their destruction by it, for them it is evil.

"From the beginning is the Adversary sinning." (1 John 3:8). "He was a man-killer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, for truth is not in him. Whenever he may be speaking a lie, he is speaking of his own, for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44).

Right, from the beginning of mankind when he first saw fit in himself to rebel against God. At that moment he made himself both Satan (resister of God) and the devil (one who slanders God).

How did he do that?

I very much agree with you about that. But we must realize that the zealots felt that same noble desire.

The only thing I would caution is that we not end up doing it our way. God has clearly outlined the way in which we are to do it.

And that way is through spiritual education, that life-giving water that Jesus told us would flow from our bellies. John 7:38 "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."

Satan has hindered us much with his hiding of the light of truth by shining his imitation light as a diversion. But we will in the end gain the victory by the power of God through Christ. And we must believe that or we willl fall from God's way and begin trying to do it our way.

The beasts picture nations and people's attitudes in places like as Isaiah chapter 11. Let us look there and elsewhere about how this victory we all so desire will be achieved:

Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears
:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

What is the result of his knowledge and wisdom?

6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

What is that showing us?

9 They [these beast like personalities] shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: [Why?]> for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

This is the message to Christ's church as to what it and it's people must faithfully do:

Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Satan is only the uncontrolled desire of the flesh. We are to mortify our members. Again healing the world is as easy as us feeding and housing the millions that are starving and homeless.

Do you know that if we put our minds towards working together for the benefit of all instead of particular nations or interests, then truly nothing will be held back by our Father? WE will eliminate all sickness and disease!

For the sake of the OP poster I am not going to discuss your post #33 right now TomH. I feel we need to keep this simpler out of love for him and his need to find answers he is equipped to understand. But, please, remind me of that post later.

Not if we deflect from leaning upon God's every word to direct our step and so fail to do it God's way.

It is only an illusion that there is any power in our own wisdom. We must trust completely in his wisdom and do it only in the way he tells us to do it. Too many men have tried the other way only to fail.

I wonder why the bible uses light and darkness as descriptive terms for good and evil. I think the natural laws of physics God confines us to earth with can be used in describing the origin of evil. People have stated here that God is light and God created evil and that light expels darkness. I think all are true because the bible says so.

Imagine you are outside in an open field during the day time and the sun is shining bright. There is nothing to obstruct the sunlight so there are no shadows present. Now put a tall tree in that field and stand behind it. What happens? There is now a shadow cast on you because the light of the sun is being blocked by the tree, thus darkness is born.

Start adding more and more trees to that field and there are more and more shadows. I think this is comparable to God and His light and the obstacles we put in front of ourselves, or have put in front of us by temptation. It blocks the light of God from reaching us, and we dwell in darkness aka evil.

In life, I can picture all of us starting out int he light as children, but as our brains develop and temptation starts, we begin to see trees scattered about blocking the light. As we get older we find ourselves in a forest where the light shines through only in certain places, and for some of us, the forest gets so thick that no light shines through.

Therefore I think evil is a natural reaction to obstructing the light of God, much like shadows cast from obscuring a light source. The principles are similar IMO and is a universal law (that God created), very much like our own natural physical law of light and darkness.

On a side note, if the light of Christ is in us, darkness can't reach us because we have the light source that doesn't allow shadows to be cast on us, even int he dead of night.

God did not create evil. God can not entertain something that is not Himself for all things subsist and exist from Him and His power and His substance. God is the creator from which every created being has their being substance this necessitates that which is created is not God, thus all created beings can be that which is not God(separate and separated, none can or do have his absolute substance of: thought, light, life and Agape) God does not think of or need any thought that is not Himself so God can not think thoughts or transgress Himself, but all that is created can and as we know did and does. God can not even look upon sin, it is recorded He was appalled that sin was on the minds of man continuously and repented that He made man, God does not need to probe or peer into the sin, evil and rebellion toward Himself. It may be that when Adam sinned the glory that was give to him that radiated from Adam left when he did sin causing God to not know where He was and could not look upon him. God did not lie "Adam where are you". Since then He sent and sends angels to give Him reports and obtains information through servants of mankind and since Jesus now is the mediator between sinful man and God. God does not create that which He is not God is all that any and all beings have existence in such as; a mind, soul, spirit, body etc. God's power is in the laws of all He made and made these laws they are not necessary in order Conductive to all life, now in this present time for us we are fallen and lack the glory that he made us to have for our eternal life state of existence also it is evident the laws that are now governing the universe are not ready for His full presence. But all laws and the rules of God are under His directives in levels of order these are changed according to His progressive plan for us and the universe and until all dimensions are capable of His absolute presence in all things. This will come about when sin has finally meet His absolute deterrence i.e. we who overcome sin and it's sting death. God did not create or bring forth or to cause something that is not of or from Himself to come into any dimension of all and any dimensions that exist and that He has made. Free will and choices is what begot evil, sin and rebellion. If God created rebellion then God is opposed to all that He is and He knows it(evil sin and rebellion knowing I mean by experience). His created things and beings would not subsist in existence if that happened or a capacity of God, all things would have been obliterated way before forming Adam.

God did not create evil..........
1 John 1:5 (English-NIV)
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

John 1:1 (English-NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was god.
At this stage there is no mention of evil. Just God and his Word/Logos. Jesus is the Word so there was a time when only the Father and Son existed. Evil did not exist yet. Sin first appeared in one of God's created beings, as the following scripture shows.

Ezekiel 28:14-17 (English-NIV)
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

So the anointed Guardian Cherub sinned and he was cast down to the earth. Who was the anointed cherub ? The following 2 scriptures will reveal his identity.

[SUP]5 [/SUP]I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
[SUP]6 [/SUP]That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

why?

[SUP]8 [/SUP]Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.

[SUP]9 [/SUP]Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

You have to go all the way back to Isaiah chapter 42 to ascertain what that is all in reaction to.

Then follow it straight on through from there to what you quoted above.

I tried making a post, but then ended up deleting it because the formatting went wacky; probably because it was too long. :( I just thought I would say in case anyone saw it and is wondering what happened.

It looks like some others are already making good points here, so I will wait to post anything, but I want to subscribe to this thread anyway so I can read everyone's responses. :)

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17

"As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him." Psalm 18:30

"For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
[SUP]5 [/SUP]for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer." 1 Tim. 4:4-5

So if I decide I hate my neighbor and I plot his murder and buy a gun then invite him to go shooting with me out in the desert. Then shoot him and the police figure out it I did, I can go to trial and blame God.

Is that what you are saying? That we do not have a choices? Can I blame God for marrying my first wife too (cuz she was evil)?

Maybe you are claiming that we have no choices? Maybe we are just robots with no will and no ability to make choices? Then if God sends me to Hell, I can claim it was all God's fault!

Doesn't that sound really dumb to you? Cuz it does to me. We have choices to make and we are responsible for them.

There seems to be another good post here that suddenly vanished about the student and his professor? I don't remember who posted it but by all means, please post that again, whoever it was.

That was a beautifully well pointed explanation in story form.

But God is the Creator of ALL creation so he did create evil. Why did he create the devil when he knew of all the pain and suffering. Why did he do that. I still love him but im just so confused

He knew '' you said, that is a assumption . No where is it written that says " God knew such an such would happen".. we cant start building ten feet off the ground and expect that to stand, or lead to anything logical. ...

God does not create evil. No where is that a subject. He creates calamity and distress for the evil the wicked... But He does not create it. Never will you read that as established teaching in any of the Bible's teachings.

Just as a sidenote Adrift, if our explorer stops letting scripting through from the editor, then we will not be able to separate lines to shape paragraphs as we desire, nor will we be able to use colors and so forth.

We can yet use the basic bold print and so forth but none of the frills.

So something may have affected your explorers ability to allow the editor's scripting needs.

In firefox that happens when we add the script blocking add-in programs and then we have to enter an exception to allow scripting from this site.
