God is not giving us a modern birth certificate or death record. He is giving us a theological genealogy — a structured testimony about life, death, inheritance, and the spread of Adam’s fallen condition.

Genesis 5 repeats a pattern:

he lived…
he fathered…
he lived after…
he had sons and daughters…
all his days were…
and he died.

God gives the years because the years show the span of life, the order of generations, and the continuity of the human line from Adam to Noah. And then Enoch breaks the pattern. Everyone else is said to die, but Enoch “walked with God, and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). Death reigns through Adam’s line, but Enoch shows that walking with God points beyond death.
Enoch was found to be righteous:

“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Lord siad to Adam...if you eat of the tree in that day you will surly die.

Scripture tells us 1000 yrs is as a day to the Lord.

As you posted the names...who made it past the Lords day?
Methuselah was the only recorded one to come close. Perhaps there were others that were not recorded; as it is written, they “had other sons and daughters” that were not recorded by name.

Not sure I understand what you are trying to say - sorry.

The Lord told Adam he would die in the day he ate the fruit. Adam lived well beyond that that day. Did the Lord lie?
The Lords day is as 1000 years according to scripture.

Adam died spiritually. And did eventially die. Which he wouldnt have if not for his sin.

You do not understand the curse. The curse was no one person could live over 1000 years with Methuselah living the longest at 969 years

Thanks for correcting my answer. Here I thought Adam would have lived forever if not for the sin that caused the curse.

Otherwise, Adam and Eve would not have died, if they had obeyed Him. So how can you think He lied? They died!

-This is concerning His promise, which He will fulfill in the 2nd coming (Judgment Day). In other words, whatever He promises, don’t think He forgot, because God does all things in His own time.

“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
‭‭II Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

-This whole chapter is about Moses’ prayer to God, His time and power, and man’s frailty.

“You turn man to destruction, and say, “Return, O children of men.” For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭90‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God didn't even give the year. He just tells us how old the father was at the time of the birth. For example:

(Gen 5:15) When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he fathered Jared.

For what purpose do you suggest God should have included months and days? I am not sure what your point is, sorry.
It’s a reasonable question only because god had already established a structure regarding time keeping and establishing

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

doesnt seem important but seems reasonable given how ordered and structured God is

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations .”

King James Bible
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment :

Job 14:5
Since his days are determined and the number of his months is with You, and since You have set limits that he cannot exceed ,

Your birth and death are appointed times

Why do you suppose the Lord did not include months or days into the births, child, and deaths in Genesis 5
Genesis has the hallmarks of oral tradition; the "begats" are clearly such an example. This is how people who didn't have writing kept track of their history, such as Abraham begat Isaac, etc. Seasoned historians are aware that oral history is often as accurate or even more accurate than written history. It does not take away from Genesis to say that it contains oral history but rather, it helps to understand why the "begats" are so prevalent.

The Hebrews and other societies that originally lacked written language did not use days or months or even years but rather, they used generations to keep careful records of their history. If you read the genealogy of Jesus in Luke, you will see that generations are used, rather than days, months or years. When a society doesn't have writing, it can make those who keep records of their history much more careful to be accurate. This was especially true of Hebrew society, which represents an honest history displaying both the positive and negative actions of key individuals like Abraham, Moses and David.

But what does that have to do with the topic - why no days, months mentioned in scripture?
No. The Hebrew word "yom" has multiple meanings. It can mean day, an indefinite period of time and time itself. Such as, "in the day" God made the heavens and the earth doesn't mean day but rather, it means time. Such as, "when" or "at the time" God made the heavens and the earth. The word translated as "day" in Genesis 1, which is "yom" in Hebrew, can just as likely be translated as "indefinite period of time", which agrees with modern science evidence. "Yom" is translated as a lengthy period of time elsewhere in the same Old Testament.

Many words in English, Greek and Hebrew have multiple meanings and as such, it can sometimes be difficult to understand the correct intention of the author. Consider for example, the word "off" in English. It can be used as "turn off the light" but is also used when saying "back off" or "off base" or "taking time off from work". These are different meanings of the same word "off".

In Greek, what is translated as "world" in English bibles, can also mean "people" and "world system". For example, "love not the world system", rather than "love not the world". And "for God so loved "the people" rather than "world".

Yes, that came from Chuck Missler, Koinonia House
I actually didn't get it from that web sight ---

I actually got it from the Christian Channel Video but you seem not to trust videos nor like looking at an hour long video ---but sometimes you can get real true nuggets from watching certain Videos -----and posting them for others who just may want to learn more about God's word -----just because you may not like something doesn't mean others just might like to view the content and get something worth while out of it where you may not ---Just saying

I say -------And here is your MATH Adding UP ---if you dare to watch this ----- using God's Own word throughout the Video ----Bible History here folks

10 NAMES FROM ADAM TO NOAH FORM A COMPLETE PROPHETIC SENTENCE ABOUT JESUS AND METHUSELAH STANDS AT THE CENTER.

Ten names. Ten generations. One message hidden in Genesis 5 for thousands of years. When you read the meanings of the Hebrew names from Adam to Noah in sequence, they form a complete sentence about the mission of Jesus Christ and at the exact center of that sentence is Methuselah, the oldest man in the Bible, whose name meant “His death shall bring” and whose death occurred in the exact year of the Flood. The math is in the Bible. You just have to add it up.

Okay, I understand but the question I believe I was responding to was / is:

Why the Lord did not include months or years in those verses?

Purpose of this post to determine the years Israel was in Egypt. All English bibles say 430 years in Egypt and all used the Masoretic text.

The Septuagint and the Syrian text says 430 years In Cannan and Egypt.

Today, the Orthodox jews say they were in Egypt for 215 years.

The year in Israel is 5786 while those who study time say we are close to 6000 years.

Gal 3:15To give a human example, brethren: no one annuls even a man’s will, or adds to it, once it has been ratified. 16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many; but, referring to one, “And to your offspring,” which is Christ. 17 This is what I mean: the law, which came four hundred and thirty years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. 18 For if the inheritance is by the law, it is no longer by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

If we take the year of Abraham's death ( 2123 ) and we add 430 years we come up with an Exodus date of 2553.

1 Kings 6:1 6 In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the Lord.

Exodus date of 2553 plus 480 = 3033

Historians have placed the rein of King David at 1000 BC which akigns with this study

Every thing adds up the Septuagint text is correct.

It was 430 years to the very day of the Exodus meaning Abraham died also on Passover which supports my saying all the patriarch, all 77 generations from Adam to Jesus were born and died on Passover.

Jacob ( Israel ) stood before Pharoh at 130 years old, Jacob born creation year 2108 plus 130= 2238

Exodus year 2553 minus 2238 equals 315 in Egypt and 115 in Canaan.
