Thank you for the insightful commentary, Gideon, and you've addressed
@Pilgrimshope original question very well. Revelation was written some ~30 years after the book of Hebrews, and it's The
Revelation of Jesus Christ. It's revealing, something new Christ revealed to the Church related to His plan of salvation.
The most convincing evidence I see of the millennium comes toward the end of Revelation:
Revelation 20
New King James Version
Satan Bound 1,000 Years
20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is
the Devil and Satan, and
bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him,
so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then
I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received
his mark on their foreheads or on their hands.
And they lived and reigned with Christ for [a]a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy
is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and
shall reign with Him a thousand years.
I've been a lit. scholar/teacher for 40 years, so I understand creative writing, metaphors, and symbolism pretty well. The verses from Revelation 20 look literal to me and pretty straight forward.
Thanks for the input bro
What I was wondering Is shouldn’t that be in the New Testament teachings in the epistles or gospel if it literal?
for instance how does this leave room for a thousand year reign on this earth when Jesus returns ?
“that ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
2 Peter 3:2-4, 7, 9-10, 13 KJV
wheres the part where there’s a thousand years after Jesus retirns before it’s destroyed ? Or here which aligns with Peter
“and to you who are troubled rest with us, when
the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be
punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe
in that day.”
2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 KJV
Or even when Jesus is explaining things in the gospel
“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
Matthew 24:9-14
“Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.”
Mark 13:12-13, 24-27 KJV
which aligns with Paul of course
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV
my point is not only Hebrews never mentions it no New Testament prophecies say it . And wouldn’t something that important to the people that were with him in the Bible Hebrews , be a main well onow and consistent part of the doctrine they all taught . Especially the letter specifically written to Hebrews?
sort of my point was th at the only thing in the Bible that suggests a millenisl repgn on this earth is revelation the part you mentioned but it’s not found in th e doctrine and infact the doctrine about Jesus return from heaven doesn’t allow for it to happen because the earth is destroyed with fire when he returns and is reserved for the punishment of the ungodly according to Peter there above
the doctirne doesn’t really seem to even speak of it . Things in scripture should conform and be well stated in the actual doctrine like the rest of revelation is
“And
she brought forth a man child, who
was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and
her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.”
Revelation 12:5 KJV
“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them,
he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
Mark 16:19 KJV
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as
I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
Revelation 3:21
i honestly don’t see the doctrine allowing for it which was why I was wondering if I was missing something in Hebrews because Hebrews isn’t promising a reign on this earth at all but is promising the kingdom of God the heavenly promised land
