The whole idea of being "subject to change" is beyond the point here; God will not reveal your wife to you in a dream. I say this as a general statement, fully believing that He CAN do so, and possibly has to some people. But in generally, what benefit would there be to revealing that to you in advance? God loves everyone, but not everyone is a prophet. It's more likely that your dream was just you seeing what your subconscious wanted you to see, which is a much more common occurrence in dreams. Everyone also likes to think God speaks to them in dreams, but 99% of the time it's just a dream, and you need to get over yourself.

Not true. God revealed to my dad through a dream what me and my younger brother would look like while my mom was still pregnant with me. Before my dads dream my parents didn't even know what our genders were yet, or that they would have a child after me.
In the dream my dad saw me as a teenager, and my younger brother behind me, when he was like 10. And my dad knew ahead of time that I would someday have very long, black hair.
And guess what? I did. :)

Wow.. that's because he just looked at himself and your mother.. and made an educated guess.. 10/10 kids resemble their parents.

What about the Josephs' dream works? dream-telling( Genesis 41), for one, and, dream-following for the other, who IF not following the things of the dreams the Saviour of our world maybe not being born ?

God told Joseph through dreams to stay with Mary, where to go with Jesus, how to get away from danger, and, more, and, a dream told the wisemen where to go . And, for the other Joseph, his dream-telling landed him 2nd in command to Pharoah , dream interpretation of coming famine to Egypt was dream Joseph foretold

Two just-becauses ?

10 of 10 kids look like their parents?

Really?

Does that mean then you have never heard the saying : He (or she) does not look at all like you.

With Joseph and Mary and wisemen, God was very specific, there was no need for an interpretation. He made it clear; it was a command, not a foretelling. He said "Go, do this", not "Here's you in the future". God didn't send Joseph a foretelling dream where he was sitting there holding a baby in his arms. Joseph wasn't left wondering, well if that's me in the future holding a baby, does that mean that I should marry Mary anyways and treat this child as my own? Or maybe since Mary wasn't in the dream, I shouldn't stay with her and God is promising me a child further down the road.

With the other Joseph, he was acting as the interpreter for a man who didn't know God. Not to mention that this all was before Christ, during a time when God's relationship with man was vastly different than it is now. And again, after interpretation (which God provided), there was no room for doubt. No room for personal interpretation. God, through Joseph, says exactly what will happen; not in thoughts or ideas but in specific, direct words.

If you want to show precedence, you're going to have to try harder. A direct command, given to save the world, and a dream sent/interpreted when God's relationship with man involved a specific chosen nation, and individual specific representatives of God, doesn't translate into God using foretelling dreams today. I certainly believe that He could, but so far the examples I've seen don't seem to follow with the precedence for dreams that we see in the Bible.

I just wanted to let you know I stopped reading your reply after the first 5 words.

Dude, he was just trying to have a bible discussion with you.

P.S. My dad was given other dreams that came true, but that one seemed the most on-topic to share here.

He can... but He won't? Why do you want to put God in a box? Why do you think you know what He will or won't do? His thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are His ways your ways.

I think that He could do this, but why would He do it to you in particular? And I'm also not saying that God doesn't speak through dreams; He definitely does to a lot of people.
He definitely does, to a lot of people... but not to YOU, of course.
That is immensely encouraging, thank you for sharing your wisdom and obvious personal experience about this matter.

But I am not saying I am even 100% certain it is God speaking in my dream, just I am saying that the power of what is in the dream greatly ties in to my life and my personal relationship with God included a great faith inside me to pray to Him that I see ALL signs He gives me so I best follow His plan for my life :)

My question isnt whether it was God, I know it was

And to the OP: I would be extremely careful about saying with certainty that something was absolutely from God, especially if you were a new Christian when it happened. It takes an awful lot for me to be positive that a word was from Him. It says in the bible that, while we're on Earth, we see through a veil.
But to answer your original question, I believe that yes, you can "mess things up" and step out of God's will. You still have free will, so you don't have to follow God's plan for your life (if that's what was truly in the dream).
Anyway, that's my 5 cents.

Yes, who cares if your dream is from God or not. You will ultimately only be getting to Heaven by faith, no dream, and, Jesus is VERY clear that we are NOT to ask for signs that PROVE He is real in concrete form on Earth. The pharasees, I believe was who asked this question, that seems logical to me, anyway. This is scripture in the gospel somewhere, that's a fact, but my green brains are not going to go there right now. :D

I have more examples of folks that had dreams in scripture too, like Saul (not Saul Paul), who were getting there lives ordered in tha way.

Seems silly to me to even argue this point, but Lightning, AAA+, others, have. C'est La Vie, to each their own. And, in fact, we really agree, because Lightning and AAA+, you both say God can speak to us in dreams but not likely does in today's age. Granted, I rarely ever get spoken too, and, it may very well be my subconscious and not God. But I have faith it is God and I try my best to act on my dreams IF I feel the Lord leading me to. The Lord leads ! And, THAT is all I have to say on this subject anymore, anymore, anymore, JACKS and JILLS. 'Cept, I will find scripture for Saul dream's if someone wants or Pharisees asking for signs and Jesus reprimanding for asking such .

God bless ! May that girl be of your dreams, Lifeliker :)

Thx, pop!clickt!, high 5 right back at ya , milady !

You seem to be drawing to a close here, but I just wanted to try and summarize my very spread out posts into one concise thought.

God can do anything; God doesn't do anything. God's nature defines what he DOES do. It's only be knowing God's nature that we can understand what God does and doesn't do. Having faith that something is from God, when it doesn't line up with His nature won't make it magically be godly.

So we get back to the previous statement. God can use dreams to speak to people, but God's nature shown in the bible demonstrates that when he does speak through a dream, he is absolutely clear. There is no room for confusion, no room for human error or misinterpretation. And in the rare cases where God uses dreams it has a dramatic affect on many people, not just one or two.

I causally tiptoe back into this thread to remind that nobody can know God's true nature. It is too much for our minds to take, that is why we have a bible, to let us know what little we are able to understand. But just because there is a bible of rules that Got made for us, doesn't mean we should use that very same book and try to use it to put God in a box. You can't put God in a box. If He wants to communicate something that's "no big deal" to someone in a dream, He can if He wants to. We're just tiny little specks compared to how God thinks.

I think people should be careful before they jump ahead and suggest to someone their dream isn't from God...because what if it is?

I think people should be careful when they jump in and suggest a dream isn't from God...because what if it is?

What if it isn't?

What if it isn't?

That should be for the dreamer to discern for themselves. If they aren't sure, they should pray about it.

If they know in their hearts that they are sure, and it really is God, but other people tell them not to believe it, and it causes them to doubt, they could be turning away from an important message from the purest source of all. That would be a shame.

But that really gets to the root of it all. I would never trust only my heart, and I think anyone who does so is foolish. Hearts are easily influenced by fickle emotions and personal desires. God says that our minds are slaves to His law. We use our minds to understand God's nature to the best of our ability.

You first point, however is along the lines of what I have been saying. Except you are discounting a huge way that God speaks to us. He speaks to us through other believers. In every single biblical example where God spoke in a dream, he left absolutely ZERO doubt. He either sent an interpretter, or made the dreams so incredibly clear initially that there was no need for anything else.

It is not putting God in a box to say that He does not sin. Likewise it is not putting God in a box to say he does not do everything that He can do. It is by knowing God, by knowing His nature that we identify that which is not from God.

As for your concerns about causing someone to doubt. Would it be worse to hold a person back from walking away from God, or to walk with them away from God? Would it be better to support a false dream that pulls someone away from God, or to hold the person steady in their relationship with God?

Acts 2:17"And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams"

I know there is some debate over weather or not we're living in the last days, but I find it surprising that anyone feels that God won't speak to us in dreams nowadays.

Such special dreams are generally pretty rare, and you have to be careful not to drive yourself crazy trying to find meaning in the meaningless. You should also be very careful of anyone who says that they can interpret a dream for you, although some do have that gift. But don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

There have been several occasions where I was quite certain that God was speaking to me through a dream. Would I stake my life on it? No. However, no human being can convince me otherwise.

Recently, a friend shared an unusual dream with me, hoping that I might know it's meaning. Did I ever. It contained a message for me, and he didn't even know it. It really shook me up, because it pertained to something that had been troubling me for some time. (I don't know why it rattled me so much to realize that God knew about what was bothering me. He knows everything. Duh) Anyway, one I got over my shock, I committed the matter to prayer, and have felt complete peace about it ever since, no more worry :). He has not given us a spirit of fear.......

So, while I agree that we need to be cautious about dreams so that we don't fool ourselves, there is no real doubt in my mind that God uses them, even today.

I like the way you all say things, and, I know it may sound like I have heard God speak to me in my dreams . But I have never heard God's voice and blinding light stopping me in my path and booming voice saying from the sky.....

'Green, Green, whyest dost thou persecute me?'

Nope, Nope, nada, not God knock-knock, knockin' on my door that way. And, personally, I am glad never has spoke to me with that kind of sign. It let's me know my faith has stood the test of my life so far :) I guess. I don't mean to criticize , just saying I think God speaks to those that are on the verge of leaving Him. And, though I can think of times in my life where I was keeping God at a distance, NEVER have I not wanted him my Saviour to take care of my life on Earth. :)

Yes, mommyofsnackers, the word you use I like most describing how God can (and does) work in our dreams, not just conscious thought but unconscious too, I think, therefore I amWAIT!, where in pippi longstocking did that come from, Yeah, where was I now before my thinker willow rudely just NOW interrupted my thoughter :D

Oh, the word you use that most speaks of how God works with us in our dreams is 'use.' God may , or, not, speak to you voicedly, like Paul, but regardless of that, God USES dreams to help us get through our life.
