How early do you get to work and what do you start off doing first?

I usually arrive at least 1 hour before work start and never less than 30 minutes. I start by checking my emails and respond to them first.

I'm starting a new job on 1 Oct and I asked how early will there be people at work. The location is quite a distance from where I live, so I plan to start my journey earlier in the morning. The lady told me don't arrive too early and scare your staff!
 
I drive 60 miles to work...so depending the traffic. I can be a half hour early to 3 hours late, commuting isn't to fun as the road rules when you arrive. Voicemail and emails first as I drink my smoothie. Good luck with the new job!
 
I get to work about a half hour early, but sit in my car in the parking lot and call my mom and talk for about 15-20 min. I don't have much privacy at home and my dad is out going for his walk, so her and I can talk. I try to be at my desk about 10 min before 8 to get my computer up and going and everything in place to start working at 8. Never could understand walking in a half minute before work starts; at 10 after you're still getting ready to start working when you should have been ready at 8.

I only have to drive 2 1/2 miles, which I love because I get home quick as well.

JustViv, congrats on your new job! :) May I suggest that if you have a day off before you start, head in to your new workplace and time the trip, preferably at the time you will be traveling. That way you know what to expect.

Thanks Dino. I use waze to estimate the time and school resumes next week here. Next week, I'll just have to check again on the traffic condition.
 
I get to work about 2 minutes early each day (we have a 5 minute late grace period in case we are late it rounds off) and I only have to drive 2 miles to work. I love that!
 
For the last 2 years I have been a telecommuter so my drive to work is about 20 paces to my office. I work with a team that is primarily in eastern time zone so start early. I am trying to train myself to wake up, be in the word for at least 30min with my coffee. Then when I land at my desk resist the urge to see what posts on CC I might have missed from the night before. I respond to critical emails first and then engage in my standard job responsibilities. Working remote has advantages and disadvantages but as I don't have a commute I typically work 9-10 hours a day. Depends on what I have on my case load.

JustViv....YOU are going to be FANTASTIC!! Some of life's richest rewards (not material or financial) are found when we step out of our comfort zones in faith to pursue personal growth, stand firm and rise to new challenges, and explore new opportunities to serve Him.

It took courage to pursue a new role and that alone is success!! Remember to include that in your metrics when you assess progress.
