Would appreciate prayer for my aunt

She became really unwell at home so community matron came and
called ambulance. Her oxygen saturation levels were only 62%.
They said anyone below 80% would normally be unconscious and
at 62% she should be in Respiritory arrest! But she was sat up chatting.

Anyway we've been at accident and emergency since 12.45. It's now
18.30. They want to keep her in as while her oxygen levels are
now better, her blood is too acidic due to high carbon dioxide
in her system. At moment we are waiting for an X-ray plus also
for bed to come free on ward, either general or Respiritory.

please could you pray she will get a bed quickly on the
Respiritory ward. I know from experience she will get better
treatment there. Also that this blood gas problem will be
quickly sorted.

Would also appreciate prayers that work would be understanding.
i took last week off because she wasn't well she, was suppose to be
back at work tomorrow. But as she suddenly got ill again I've had
to ask for more time off. They have let me have it but weren't
too happy.

I have said a prayer for your aunt and for yourself. I'm sure that you have probably considered having you aunt stay in a facility of long-term skilled nursing care. I went through something similar with my late wife. At a certain point you realize that you can't do this by yourself anymore. I am praying for God's will to be done in both of your lives. God bless you for being a loving caregiver for your aunt.

I really understand the miracle that just happened. 62%? Didn't even know a person could live at those low levels. They told John they would put him back on a ventilator at 89%.

We learned coughing helps, but only for short term. I think it forces the CO2 out of the lungs, and at inhale, oxygen gets in easier.

I truly fear your aunt is where John was in November 2015. I will pray the same thing I prayed for him back then, "God's will be done." And, I will long for hearing his will be your aunt comes home.

Just got back from hospital, I could barely believe my eyes when I got
there around dinner time, she was sat up just finishing off eating veg and stew.
Almost licking the plate clean, then she set to work on the strawberry ice cream. Lol

She looked so well!

I spoke to staff, nothing new was found on chest X-rays. Her saturation levels are
now up to 92% on oxygen. She does have a chest infection so they are keeping her in
on a day by day basis, reviewing the position each morning.


Not bad for a person who should have been dead 24 hours ago!

When the community matron came yesterday he could barely believe what his eyes were
telling him. He tested the oxygen sat gadget on himself just in case it was faulty.
But no, his levels were 98% then he put it back on my aunt and they dropped back to
62%.


Someone has been trying to kill my aunt for the past 4 years, medically speaking
she would have died 4 times by now. Not to mention the car crashing into the house
and someone setting fire to a motorbike down the side of our house on some grass.

God seems equally determined its not her time yet!

Thanks for your prayers, keep praying that everything will
fall into place for her return home with no issues. It might be a few days or
maybe up to a week. A big issue at moment is trying to keep work sweet
about all this.

I honestly keep switching between laughing and crying.
Laughing over the goodness of God,
and crying over what could have happened but also crying over the goodness of God.

Do men do that or is it a woman thingy.

Physically she isn't doing too bad, but mentally she is rather confused at the moment.
This always happens when she goes into hospital and develops delirium, it makes
it more difficult as well for the first few weeks back home.

One of the things they told me to do for John was to bring in stuff from home. Stuff he associates with home. I hope your hospitals do better than the one John was in, because I brought in his favorite comforter, and they instantly covered it with sheets, pillows, medical supplies, and everything else. It was there. He just could never see it. And I was going to bring in more, but he couldn't have anything on tables, window sills, or any place they might need to use, so basically, I couldn't bring in anything.

The other thing they told me to do was bring in friends and family. They came, but they also worked and most lived an hour away. So they only came once every 1-2 weeks, but the time he had with them was like watching Star Wars again. The highlight of his week. I usually missed them, (or worse, a couple of times someone would come and got to say hi to John before he was being sent back to the hospital for tests.) He gave me the full rundown on what they talked about, how all the kids were, who they ran into from the old job. I've never seen him so thrilled to see the good gang.

Does your aunt have any friends she hasn't seen in awhile? That could help. Or can you bring in the blankets an pillows from herbed? And then there is James. he's do for a new adventure. And he's a very good listening. Something about talking to people you don't see ever day.

It's a bit tricky to take in lots of things.
She has clothing, magazines, glasses, slippers, toiletries
but they keep moving her around and every time they move her, we have to
play "hunt the belongings" to make sure they all get transferred.

We spent most of Monday last week in A & E then they put her on an
assessment ward around 9pm. They often do this the idea being to see if
people can go home within a day or two or if they need to stay longer in hospital.

So they decided she needed to stay and Wednesday morning she was moved to a
general ward in a bay with 3 other patients. Only thing was that another patient
by the same first name was in that bay, this other lady had advanced dementia.
She kept everyone awake at night. The staff were confusing them both when talking
about them due to same name.

Sooo on Thursday they moved my aunt to another bay further along the corridor.

Then got there last night and I found they had moved her again to a different ward.
Which was described as a discharge ward. The idea being that she is almost ready
to go home and needs less medical attention now. But they are assessing her
mobility and working with her, physios now get to decide if and when she can come home.

All this moving her around is adding to her confusion as every time they move
her she wonders where they are taking her. If I took in too many possesions
they would just get lost.

Im hoping she will be out by end of next week, if not I will lose the home care package
we have in place - it's funded by social services who are still paying for it even though
she is in hospital. So if she is in longer than two weeks, it gets cancelled.

That would mean my aunt would have to stay in hospital even longer while she is
assessed by social services again and our house assessed. Then another care
company with available space would need to be found. So she could end up
blocking a bed in hospital and staying in several more weeks than necessary.

People think that is good for me and it will give me a break, only it won't.
It just means that after work I have to go to hospital and don't get home until
8pm at night. Or that on my days off, I go to hospital and take in clean clothes etc.
Or that I will be at home having meetings with social services etc!

Hopefully she will be home before too long.

But oh no, we now have an intermittent fault with our central heating system, it's making
very loud noises when it comes on. Last time it did this a valve was replaced, but because it
was intermittent it took the gas engineer 3 visits and even then he didn't know what was
wrong with it, so he just ordered and replaced a valve to see if that helped.

I cant arrange for the gas engineer to come out, especially if it will take multiple visits to
sort it out, as I don't yet know which day my aunt may be discharged! Also I still need
to go into work 3 days a week so any gas engineer visits will need to be on my days off!

Im in a bad over thinking mode at the moment. Lol

Ah! So, you're hospitals aren't different enough. For that first two months, John was in an ICU in one single hospital. 35 beds. He was in 6 of them before he left. In the other hospital, the record was 3 beds in 36 hours, and that'snot counting thebed in the ER.

And yeah, they tended to lose personal belongings during the moves.

John knew I was going to be very busy when he came home, because he couldn't do much. He wondered if my life would be more complicated by him coming home. I told him, that him being home gave me one extra hour a day that I would otherwise be using to travel.I think we got one more advantage -- we knew when the healthcare people were coming. At the hospital or nursing home they'd just barge in and kick me out. lol

For the heating engineer, (Oh, John would so love to have been called an engineer. Sounds fancier than mechanic. lol), if changing that part doesn't work, invite him at lunch time, to give him an excuse to stick around awhile. (I'm praying your aunt comes home before it doesn't work again, IF it doesn't work again.)
