Hey Everyone,

I wasn't sure where to post this and since I almost exclusively hang out in Singles, I thought I'd ask all my fellow peeps here.

I recently read a quote by a certain Christian person who wrote, "I voted for X because I believe God told me more people would come to Jesus under his leadership."

I have heard other Christians give the same reason as to why they voted for the opposing candidate?

Would God really tell different people to each vote for candidates who are running against each other... Or, since one of God's characteristics is unity, would He tell ALL of His people to vote for the same person? (In that case... which of our presidential candidates was the one backed by God...)

I'm not a political person at all and I'm NOT criticizing anyone's beliefs... I'm just a little confused!!

Would God tell you to vote for Candidate X and me to vote for Candidate Y?

For your example... no. It is contrary and God is not contrary to himself it should be either A or B God cannot say more people will come to through A and then say more people will come to me through B. It's a contradiction

I think that God could and maybe would tell you to vote for candidate A and tell me to vote for candidate B. That doesn't make him contrary, it doesn't make him a liar. His word is very clear that He promotes and He demotes the rulers of the world. For instance, I don't think God exclusively backs the Republican party. That's nonsense. Democrats are Christians too. Or Green Peace members, or Libertarians, or whatever. God will get his purpose done in the end, and that's what matters.

for her example though it would be contrary i.e. hey vote for candidate a more people will come to Christ through him, and then syaing ot another hey you vote for candidate b more people will come to christ through him. that would make him contrary

This is exactly my point, Teuful.

Would God do this?

And if we have some people who take the poll and say God led them to vote for candidate x, and others say that God led them to vote for candidate y, what's really going on?

Aimee--great points... I'm really curious tho... Does God tell a certain number or people to vote for one, and another number of people to vote for the other?

The reason I'm wondering is because when I read the person's quote as saying he believed God told him that more people would come to Jesus under Candidate X, it caused me to question myself.

Because I believe I was specifically led to vote for Candidate Y.

*shrugs* Maybe it's just me.

Interesting question, as you never fail to come up with. I liked the point of what aimee said about God telling two people to vote for two different candidates without being contrary. Maybe it has to do with what is on the voters heart and where they want the leadership to go. I hate politics. I usually don't pray about who to vote for. First, not everyone who votes is a christian, therefore not everyone who votes is going to pray about who to vote for, they going to vote for whoever it is they want to, God's not going to push them to vote one way or another because that would take away freewill. I don't believe God is a political backer for any candidate. Second, I'm going to vote for whoever I feel has the most moral values, which is a laughable trait at this point, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Maybe people can't tell the difference between God's voice and their own sometimes. Also, God does establish rulers and remove them. Scripture is pretty clear about that. Who is to say that what would bring the most people to Christ is a believer/supporter of Christian virtues. The truth shines brightest in the darkness, and historically the word was established by the blood of the testimonies of those who followed Christ in sacrificing their lives for it.

"I voted for X because I believe God told me more people would come to Jesus under his leadership."

^ I've never heard this uttered from another Canadian before. I guess politics are quite different here in Canada.

Hiya there

Interesting question isn't it, personally I dont think God would tell you to vote for any candidate, each person must choose according to their conscience but be clear why they have voted for A or B. To be conformed to the Lords will (for you) is not the same as Conforming or being the same as each other.

I agree, God does not tell us who to vote for, its your conscience....but what influences that? God does not tell us what toothbrush to buy, car...job...etc. We have a choice. Free. Thats the whole point in a life with Christ but we do have His guidance in how we are to make the 'best' choice. Mostly, as society here in the Uk shows...faith goes out the window and it is normal to live a life as a Christian with a private (see hidden) faith. Its fun to be 'out there', yet accepted both professionally and privately...possible? yes!! I actually believe we are only blessed when we do not deny Him!! God Bless,

I feel ya. I'm from Mexico. All we want is the law being enforced and everyone's rights being respected.

If we ask God, He answers.
It is then up to us whether we hear, or not.
There is no limit on what God is able to reveal.
Therefore, our limitations are due to our own doubt and unbelief.
Doubt and unbelief = dull of hearing.

Unfortunately the US is at a point where no one really knows our constitution, and therefore know one knows what their rights actually are, and which ones are just made up in their heads, and rather than have a justice system whack them upside the head and tell them when they're wrong, we have to entertain every silly idea that pops into someone's head, and do our best to take it seriously.

He most certainly wouldn't. someone is not hearing from God on the subject. stinks how often we attribute our own thoughts to God. creating conflicts and confusion EVERYWHERE. makes me mad.
