Hello All,
Have any of you out there ever had something happen that you'd always dreamed about, and it finally came true? Examples: you finally grew out of your awkward teen phase and became the beautiful swan; you lost the 20 lbs. you'd always wanted to shed; you got the job or promotion or new car you always wanted; you scored that winning point in the biggest game of the year; you got the date or significant other you always had your eye one; you finally finished that program or degree; you met that fantastic goal that always seemed so out of reach.
Did your life change when X, Y, or Z finally happened? Were you happier? More fulfilled? Closer to God?
Being a lifelong (and now "grownup") "nerd", I have always dreamed of a moment in my life e transformed into that magical moment from a classic teen angst movie. You know... the moment when the Nerdy Girl gets the Ultimate Sleek and Chic Makeover... and she falls right into her New Image and lives happily ever after.
In the past few months, I have moved to a different part of the country and have started my life over from scratch... I suppose the Leftover Insecure Teen in me had hoped for more of a "New Girl Bella Swan" image (Twilight) than what I always find waiting for me--one of my new bosses reinforced my Inescapable Lifelong Image today, when, seeing that I had both a pen AND a pencil woven into my ponytail (I like to be prepared!) laughed and said, "Kim, you look like Ultra Nerd Girl!" And this is someone who's only known me 3 months!! HA!!!
I've come to a point in life where I try my best to accept that this is who I am and God has a plan for me no matter what my earthly label might be. But still... It can be hard not to let go of the fantasy.
Have any of you out there ever achieved a milestone that you thought would change your life? Did it go the way you thought it would? Did it bring you the happiness you were expecting? And is there anything you would change if you could?
Is the reality ever as good as the fantasy we imagine in our own minds?
