The great days of wrestling ended when ECW folded. Now, ECW was crazy and dangerous stuff, but they forced WCW and WWF to change, and I think for the better. (Mick understood that, Mark understood that, Shane understood that, the Dudleys understood, and so did Heyman. The rest...I think have forgotten.)

Vince and the WWE *need* competition in order to change. Like you said, ECW forced them to do that. When ECW folded, and Vince bought them out, he had a chance to save face with ECW fans, but Vince didn't want that. He wanted to do it his way, and he drove it into the ground. And, I agree with you on them ending the Streak, because it should've been one of the untouchable things in the business. Whether it was Mark's or Vince's decision, 22-0 would never be seen again. Now, at 21-1, it seems tainted, and just for the sake of "entertainment". Now Mark is a classy guy, and he wants to do what is right for business and the fans, so he could tell he was on his way out; but seeing him lose to Lesnar last year was still hard to fathom. Now that the Streak has been stopped, I really don't see a reason for him to come back at all. There's no real point...

And, IMO, one of the biggest returns was Triple H's, in Madison Square Garden, after his leg surgery a few years back.
 
I would imagine WCW did more to motivate WWE to change than ECW. Not to put down ECW, though. Because they actually did play a major part in pro wrestling. They helped many wrestelers find their character, the biggest and most obvious being Stone Cold Steve Austin. He wouldnt have even existed if it werent for ECW. ECW created many great wrestlers that many fans dont even know.
And their hardcore "real life" style definitely helped with companies who were still stuck with the gumball style of wrestling that we always see being repeated.

I actually am a big fan of WCW though. Is a bummer it died. So many great talents have pretty much went off forgotten because they wrestled for WCW, meaning that WWE has made a mission to put down everything they did to their fans, and EVEN on the WCW dvd collections they release to remaining WCW fans :p WCW had some of the best wrestlers ever, so it is a big bummer.

Btw, has Sting made a second appearance on WWE?
 
Would any of you consider any type of fighting/ wrestling (WWE, UFC, MMA, boxing, etc) Christian behavior? I remember being at a restaurant with my roommate two years ago and they had a UFC match on. My roommate said he can't imagine how people who are Christians who do that for a living can sit there and say they are glorifying God. What are your thoughts?

Sting showed up on last weeks Monday night Raw program of WWE, helping John Cena win his match to stay in the title match that Brock won again. This weeks Monday night Raw was cancel do to weather, and I guess we are still in the dilemma between now and WM of seeing the champion maybe once or twice, or even three times maybe.
Yes WCW was the best, but McMahon doesn't like competition so he bought it out and did away with it.
 
I have thought about that. Wrestling is acting, its really the same as watching a movie or reading a comic book. Im not trying to necissarliy justify it, but how many people here watch movies that have action in it? Or football?

I think that as long as you dont allow it to be the focus of your heart, maybe its okay with God?

I mean when I watch wrestling I feel more silly and happy over like aggressive and violent. It never makes me violent.
 
Haha, and not Undertaker? Well have to wait another whole year for that one, huh? But HHH vs Sting is actually a match Ive always wanted to see so I am excited. Wish I knew someone who watched wrestling so I could go half in with them to watch it :/

Actually I would say ECW made both WCW and WWF step up the game a bit. WCW downfall started with the NWO running everything honestly. then you know the fingerpoke of doom,ect. if they would have kept the NWO smaller instead of about everyone in it. WCW would have still been on top of the monday night wars. WCW just got too silly with the NWO. NWO has way to many members and it got stale..

Where WWF kept DX small they had the attitude but could still could get squashed. it was more entertaining, then you had the rock and stone cold. foley and taker. taker and kane. WWF just put a better show on in the last half of the monday night wars

BUT it was ECW who helped push WWF over as well. remember when ECW "invaded" raw in NYC? thus kicking off the the king vs ECW. BUT WWF also helped kill ECW by stealing talent away (tazz, dudleys) also WWF move to TNN at the time ECW home network. Without ECW WWF never would have had a attitude era honestly, while they would have eventually won the wars (had WCW went down the same path it did with the NWO) it wouldn't be the product we know today

meh. rather of seen Taker vs Sting. but honestly even that would have been ruined with the lesnar killing the streak.
 
WCW fall was when they took the writing power away from Eric Bischoff, and that is when the whole NWO got out of hand with the black and white, red and black, and even the Spanish faction. Then they started making stupid matches, and couldn't keep any bodies attention. They lost ratings and attendance do to their stupidity, which opened the door for Vince to step in and buy them. Then the way Vince handled the merger, it upset a lot of the wrestlers which lead them to either go to another faction or retire......
 
I would agree with you that NWO got too big, but I do feel that need to remind everyone that WCW died from corporate politics, and not losing the war to WWE : p The ratings they had at the end match WWEs ratings now.

But, you are right. NWO was the best thing when it came out, and even the wolfpac made sense, cashing in on it before its end. but they dragged it out too long and it got old. It was the worst in 2000 when they brought it back with Bret Hart at the helm. It made no sense. They needed to give the company new life at that point.

And I can see ECW being something that WCW and WWE stole from and took talent from for sure, though Id say WCW kept WWE on its toes because they had the power to overcome their ratings and take the crown from WWE. ECW did not have that power, but they accomplished alot for being a small independent company. As we all know, WCW was far from that : p

And I actually disagree with the streak comment. I actually think it will make the fight between the two better. That way, instead of being about the streak, it will be the battle between the two "dark angels" of WCW and WWE, which is what we all wanna see. I actually think this will make the match more legitimate.
 
1- As for taker vs sting. while still may be epic. @ WM without the streak just not the same. maybe Survivor Series

WCW died part in company politics, and the fact is was stale. And since Vince did buy WCW they lost the war.

Well you had two scenario's that happened to both come into play at the same time also with this, and that was you had a rich Vince McMahon who owned WWE and a going bankrupted Ted Turner who owned WCW. Ted Turner was loosing tons of money so he had to do something, and when you have a money hurting company usually a rich company always comes in a buys the product if it has a good name.
But instead of keeping the product and making money off both which would have been smart, McMahon did away with the WCW product name because he never liked competition. And he publically stated this....

Undertaker/Sting most likely will not happen. With the beating that 'Taker took last year from Brock, there's a chance he's still not at 100%. (Unless it's all kayfabe, and he makes an appearance this year.) However, the idea now is or Sting/HHH to go at WM 31.

WCW ruined it's own product from the beginning, by having people with no knowledge of the business running things. When Bischoff took over, that's when they started winning the ratings war. However, Vince and the WWF/E essentially beat them at their own game. But, I still think it's a shame that they threw away a lot WCW's talent in favor of their own guys.

I don't see it as unchristian. Its a sport like any other, or in the case of wrestling acting.

I would say, if they're using the talents that God gave them, they're glorifying Him. But, it's just another entertainment industry like all the others.

What about something like boxing or UFC? Those aren't scripted like WWE (although the boxing world is pretty much corrupt, see Floyd Meyweather).
