I'm driving thru a parking lot when this guy (late 20's, early 30's) comes barreling in the driveway, dang near hits me, then flips me off as he drives by. Having long since gotten tired of this prevalent behavior, I watch him park and then pull into the spot next to him. Keeping the car in gear in case a hasty exit is needed, I roll down the window and, in a very cordial, conversational tone, ask "what he heck was that all about?".
He doesn't recognize me, and asks, "what was what all about?"
"You came racing in the driveway, dang near hit me, then to top it off -you- flipped -me- off."
"so?"
"So explain it to me, what the thinking there, what's the reasoning behind something like that?"
"I have places to go and things to do."
"But we all have places to go and things to do. So, for no other reason than we both had to go the same place and do the same thing, you tell me to go eff myself?"
Still maintaining that cordial, conversational tone, he chuckles and says "yeah ... go eff yourself."
I shake my head. "Man, I feel sorry for you and your generation. You know, karma's a b-, and that attitude will come back around some day to haunt you."
"I really don't give a f-".
"Really? So you honestly don't care if people think your an a-, or that someday you're going to flip off the wrong person and they're going to beat the living crap out of you?"
"No man, I really don't give a s-".
"Wow ... If that's the world you really want to live in, I wish you luck with that. You're going to need it. Someday that's gong to bite you in the a- and when it does I hope you remember this conversation"
"Like I said, man, I really don't give a f-".
"Again, I wish you luck with that. But that's definitely not a world I care to live in"
I then drove away.
The entire exchange was actually quite cordial, and not a word was spoken in anger or passion. It surprised me that, absent any malice, this guy could still think and talk like that. Shows how deeply ingrained this mentality has become.
So yeah, the human race has gone insane and love has grown cold. All one can do now to escape it is to leave it.
