"Young Earth creationism (YEC) is the religious belief that the Universe, Earth and all life on Earth were created by direct acts of God during a relatively short period, between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago."

What does the Bible teach?

The Holy Bible teaches a very old earth.

YEC's teach a young earth.

I heard a preacher one time, I think it was Chuck Missler, say that the apparent old earth appearance could be due to the speed of light at the beginning of time. According to him the speed of light is slowing down.

Occam's razor.

If it looks old; it is!

Geepers crippers Robert,
We need to study the bible all these answers are in the bible.
Isaiah 45:18 will tell you, God speaking, I did NOT create the earth void and empty!
Then, back to Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth. Period He didn't say when, Just in the beginning!., A day with the LORD is a a 1000 years...the six days creating the earth and 1 day resting...7000 years.
On the 6th day God created Adamah or mankind. God said, let US make MAN (adamah or mankind) in OUR image!
In Gen 2 God then formed ETH HA ADAMAH (means a specific person not mankind as in GEN 1 day 6).
Christians need to read the bible before they start chanting all kinds of statements.

I do believe the problem is our churches! They do NOT teach the bible. They just read a small 10 minute sermon on giving money to the church or be nice to your neighbor. If they do teach something, it is always church doctrine, and not the bible. And check it out, they are not the same.
What better place for satan than in the pulpit of the church with people sitting in the front pew sucking in everything the pastor says and those good Christian people never check it out in the bible!.

Where does it say 6 literal days Robert. I bet your church said 6 literal days, The bible does not state that.

Occam's razor.

Wrong. In at least two ways... first, Occam's razor, while a snippet of wisdom, is not biblical. Second, it doesn't decide what is true, only what is most likely, according to the evidence, to be true, in that truth is often quite simple and straightforward.

"Old" is a relative term which is essentially meaningless. My car looks old. When I wash it, it looks new.

I'm going to get more butter for my popcorn.

If you ever read the bible manu, you would know why people suffer.
Why come to a Christian site and make ignorant statements? Go to an athiest site and plan your descent to hell for when your time comes. What is your purpose here? If you stay here, you will learn the answers to your questions. If that is what you are looking for, stay here and ask questions. Then discuss what you believe!

What is a day? Answer: "one rotation of the earth on its axis"

What happens if a day is much, much longer other than our 24hr time period? For all practical purposes the earth would stop spinning. What happens then?

A day would last 365 days. The next problem is that day and night wouldn’t work the same any more. Right now the Earth is rotating on its axis, returning the Sun to the same position every 24 hours. But if the Earth stopped spinning, it would then take 365 days for the Sun to move through the sky and return to the same position. Half of the Earth would be baked for half a year, while the other hemisphere was in darkness. It would get very hot on the sunny side, and very cold in the shadowed side. You can imagine how that would be devastating to plants and animals. We get a hint of this at the poles, where you can experience weeks of permanent night and then weeks of permanent day. But imagine 6 months of night, followed by 6 months of day.

What Would Happen if the Earth Stopped Turning?

Occam's razor means that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Even YEC's think the earth looks old....but that disagrees with their worldview...so they must invent the notion that was created to 'Look' old!!!

Rotflol...

OEC's don't have that problem.

It is what it is...

The key is how long was Adam in garden before Eve was created? How long were Adam and Eve in the garden Of Eden for? I struggle with creation just being 6,000 years old which is simply assuming Adam was only in Eden for a few years, not thousands which I can easily see.

Technically Occam's razor says that the belief with the fewest assumptions should be selected, so if there is evidence that the earth is young, it would win out, because one is assuming that appearance equals reality and that the earth appears old when we don't have anything to compare it to.

Well, that's philosophy...so, it's an assumption.

Let's look at the Ten Commandments:

" For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day...." Ex 20:11

Keep in mind that "the heavens" could refer not to the universe, but our solar system.

Well let's just generalize with a straw-man argument why don't we?

The appearance-of-age argument is not a biblical issue. It is an interpretation-of-evidence issue.

I know WHAT a day is, the question was what is a LITERAL day with God. the bible states a day with the Lord is as a 1000 days. From your posts I have read, I am sure you are a good man and a great Christian. I discuss bible a lot because I am so very interested in it. But I can almost put everyone in the church they belong to by what they say!. We all have the same bible so we should all be on the same page. The reason we are NOT, is because of church doctrine.
Was Eves sin that she ate an apple? and if so, why was the punishment pain during delivery?

If a day is a 1000 years, and its been 6000 years since 'Adamah" that makes appx 13,000 years. It was about that time that earth was mostly destroyed by the ice age.

God used science (and created science) in making the earth beautiful. The only reason science people and Gods senario don't agree is because the scientists are not as smart as God. Also, if you note, it is science that is all the time recanting and coming up with "new" findings. God's word never changes. Only human understandings change as we study and learn what God says about the bible and earth. Its man that always is in error.
