One is expressing that kind of positive shock.

The other is expressing that everything goes wrong from all directions.

Yeah, that's what lost me. I got the part where everything goes wrong. But by saying "from the north" was he not saying that things go wrong from one direction.??? (The North) ?

The wind from North is cold, and especially here, that is not a good thing. So when the Northern wind comes from all directions, it means that all things negative come from everywhere at the same time.
