Like I said...get some understanding.....the same God who wrote the NEW also wrote the old........so genius....hypothetical...your sister is being beaten by a bloody violent man....what would you do....play pixy sticks and sing KUM BAYAH.....let me tell you a true story and how sometimes God uses a good old fashioned beat down to change a man....1987 and a guy name Monty was a violent drunk, always liked to fight, keep his girlfriend tuned up etc....always in the bar starting fights......well he duped his girlfriend and had all sorts of new names for her and she and I went out one time....a week later he kicked my best friends door in, got in my face and threaten to put e in the hospital the next day at work....sure enough he jumped me as I got out of the car....I lit into him, and put a god old fashioned butt whippin on him and then chased him into the shop belittling him in front of ALL.......Imagine that.....he quit going to the bar, he quit picking fight and fighting and quit beating his girlfriends, got right, got in church and to this day will not look me in the eye when we pass each other......

A man that beats a woman needs a lesson he will not forget....the type of lesson that changes his behavior.....regardless of your stance...GOD was clear in the O.T....a eye for an eye and tooth for tooth....and I can tell you....automatically attributing tuning a wife beater up to Satan is ignorant......end of story!

Before you quote LOVE your enemies and do GOOD unto your enemies......try context and what is really being said.....
While the situation in your story is certainly a valid time to fight back, remember what Jesus said about "an eye for an eye". (Matt 5:38-48).

Don't get me wrong... I believe we have every right to defend ourselves, our loved ones, and the defenseless if the situation calls for it. But not every situation calls for it.

Whenever we use violence to respond with violence, satan gain energy. What does it say of our hearts if we wish to harm those that have harmed us, or wrong those that have wronged us? We are meant to be peacekeepers, not brutish people. Of course, beating one's spouse can never be condoned, but in what way does that mean that they should be met with violence as well? Can you raise your fist at another person, or breed resentment in your heart and say that it is truly honourable and righteous in God's eyes? It is not so. We live in a fallen world, where satan will try and use anyone to breed hatred, rage resentment and all manner of evil emotions in one's heart to turn them away from God, tainting the Holy Spirit which dwells within them. Violence should not even be a response for a Christian, and we should always walk away from any fight and not seek to ever entertain one.

This battle we face is a spiritual one, and we should seek out God in all of our actions, and not give satan any room in our lives to lead us astray.

[h=1]Luke 3:14King James Version (KJV)[/h][FONT=&quot]14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

What would you do if you came home from work and your wife or sister was being raped by an intruder? Pray for him?

Self defense, and defending the defenseless, even if force is required, is biblical. The death penalty is biblical.

Concerning Luke 3:14, the KJV leaves out the Greek word for extort.

(NIV) Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?" He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely--be content with your pay."

(ESV) Soldiers also asked him, "And we, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages."

(NRSV) Soldiers also asked him, "And we, what should we do?" He said to them, "Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages."

(ASV) And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Extort from no man by violence, neither accuse any one wrongfully; and be content with your wages.

The soldiers were not to extort money from people by threatening them.

Some of you need to spend a little time in the emergency room with a young Christian lady who has been beaten so badly by that she can not walk, talk, and/or see. Or a pregnant lady who is miscarrying because he spouse has repeatedly kicked her in her abdomen. Or a young Christian lady who has broken ribs, a broken jaw, and a elbow fractured beyond repair. Or a woman who has six gunshot wounds from an angry spouse. I don't know many people who have worked in an emergency room who hasn't witnessed this type of crime, probably many times over.

I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God not only expects the battered spouse to flee, but will also forgive the battered spouse seeking a divorce, and when she turns to him, he will provide a loving spouse for the battered spouse.

I find it difficult to believe that divorce is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. God forgives all other sins.

In this situation I totally agree. Sometimes the only thing some will hear IS THE LAW. Wise men dealing with foolish ones is a good formula. But often the fool will not hear but they do respect a "woopin" because it hurts to get beat up (shocker)

The abuser will not pound on someone who stands up to them because they are true cowards in every sense of the word. The 6'2 300 pound fellow worker with tattoos the abuser sees every day never seems to have problems with woman beaters. I liked your story because it's good hearing when the good guys defeat the bad guys.

God forbid. Why are people using such abhorrent and sick examples to try and prove their point? In any case, would one not call the police and chase the intruder out of their house, without attacking them?

Also, the only Bible I recognise is the King James Bible, not these other translations rooted in evil, and in the KJB, Jesus clearly tells the soldiers to "do violence to no man", and we should abide by this rule.

There is only one Biblical ground for divorce, which is adultery. Even then, God hates divorce.

Sorry guys. I shouldn't have entered the BDF....

It seems like some of you forget your heart when entering here. Show a bit compassion and understanding towards your neighbour. Think with your heart and not your OT. I believe a woman's life is more precious than a marriage. And living in an abusive marriage is no life.

Most wife beaters are also adulterers, but there are exceptions. In case the monster is "faithful" what would be the biblical basis for divorce?
Honestly, the very title of your thread sounds like something the pharisees would have asked Jesus. Rabbi, can a woman divorce her husband if he beats her up? ( NOT saying YOU have ever sounded like a pharisee to me M! :))

It is basically asking a question about the law. If we would say a woman cannot divorce a man for atrocities committed against her (and oftentimes against her children) aren't we making the same mistake as the pharisees did by forgetting the weightier aspects of the law, like mercy and justice?

Divorce doesn't mean you have to stay at the same place with your abuser....you can live far away from him and still be married. Divorce is only a sin if the reason for the divorce is not sexual infidelity.

You just don't understand domestic violence, do you? Speaking as one who has been there and barely lived to tell my story, I can say with absolute surety that the LAST thing an abuser wants, is his woman calling the cops on him. I always tried doing that, and my ex would pull the phone cord out of the wall every time. :/ SO, now that option is off the table, she can't access the phone and her abuser is blocking any path outside. What is she supposed to do then? Beg for her life and hope he don't slice her up, or grab a weapon and defend herself?

Wanna know how I defended myself? By grabbing a butcher knife from the kitchen. Luckily he was a wimp and knew I meant business..

God forbid. Why are people using such abhorrent and sick examples to try and prove their point? In any case, would one not call the police and chase the intruder out of their house, without attacking them?

You cannot honestly believe that God would rather have the wife stay and get murdered and battered and bloody every day..:/ Whether people want to believe it or not, God makes allowance for divorce in cases of domestic violence and all forms of physical and sexual abuse..

I'm sorry you had to deal with such, but at the end of the day, the only biblical ground for a divorce is the act of adultery, which even then I believe should be worked through. Also, I refuse to believe that violence or threats solve anything, they just make satan happier, and taint our Holy Spirit.

Why should an abuser be shown any mercy or justice? He didn't show any mercy or justice to his wife when he beat her senseless.. :/ IMO, they need to bring back the firing squads and fire up Ole Sparky for some of these scumbags..

So you equate forgiveness to blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Spend a few weeks in the emergency room, then ask God if battery is grounds for divorce. It took me several years to open my ears and listen. I pray that you don't take that long to get the answer that I got.

Not true. God forgives ALL sin except that of blasphemy. He understands why the woman is fleeing the marriage. He knows if she stays, she dies by her husband's hand. He knows that under normal circumstances, she wouldn't be running away or seeking divorce. He NEVER meant for marriage to be abusive and He NEVER meant for spouses to get beaten and killed by their partners.

Oh, and God cannot and will not be mocked. :) The evil one knows what his end is gonna be.
