Ugh.. Not the "I have studied and therefore have a DEEPER understanding than everyone else" game!?

Oil is representative in Scripture of the Holy Spirit. The 5 without oil didn't have the Holy Spirit.
Hello PennEd,

The meaning of the oil is found right in the scripture and it is not representing the person of the Holy Spirit.

The oil is represented by the following:

* The virgins who were ready

* Therefore keep watch

Being ready and watchful are directly linked to those virgins who took extra oil with them. And yes, I have studied Revelation and all related end-time events for over 40 years and God has revealed much to me. And I am not ashamed to proclaim it. The problem today is that, no one recognizes this and those who have studied have no credibility with others. Regarding this, Jesus said, he would send the comforter who would remind us of all that Jesus said and would that he would reveal things yet to come.

All that you are doing in claiming that the Holy Spirit represents the oil is repeating the popular belief and following the crowd. I don't and have never done that. All information comes from my own personal studies.

We keep on throwing verses about the Sun, moon and stars around...... but still, no one tells me what they actually were.
Here is my take on this.
First is that John was trying to find words to describe future events he had not seen before.
I believe what he describes may be what we might see after certain natural events happens.
Volcanoes produce smoke that can hide the sun and moon's light from a period of time in some areas.
A meteor, even a small one , can cause strange lights in the ski, and major damage in the impact area.
Just my thought.

Have you checked out any other places in Scripture where the Sun, Moon, and stars were mentioned? The boy, Joseph's, dream that so angered his family comes to mind as just one incident.

The funny thing is that every generation of Christians thinks they are the last one.

From the first century, through 1000 AD (when the prophetical seeing of end was really intense) till our generation (because of the state of Israel).
One thing is certain that at least one generation will get it right sooner or later.

There is a long tradition of date setting. Charles Russel hit on the biggest winner. In the 1880s he predicted that Armageddon would happen in 1914. Lo and behold WW1 started the very year he predicted, unfortunately the Millennial reign didn't start at the end of it, but it did give the JWs a lot of street cred. They decided that the generation who fought in WW1 would not die out before the Millennium started. When they did it was decided that it was the generation born in 1914 that would still be around. Now there is barely anyone left of that generation
they tend to keep very quiet about it all.

You remind me of a man and old preacher told me about many years ago.

This man continuously bragged about how much he studied God's Word (over 40 years) and how God had blessed him with such a superior knowledge. He should never be questioned.
No one recognized his expertise in teaching the Word.

The problem was that what little truth he had learned, he learned in the first year of his study.
He spent the next 39 years corrupting what little he had learned in his first year of study.

That really is a big problem. Just like most people, I spent years turning to verses people worked very hard to fit into the patterns that would verify all sorts of preconceived notions they started out with. I fell into the same trap for well over two decades.

I believe that often times men had dreams from God about future events that they had trouble putting into words.
While they may have been able to use words that those in their day understood, we have trouble understanding today.
Try explaining a cell phone to Paul or Peter.
Can't prove any of this as fact, just an opinion.

I have said this several times on this site...now, once again.

The study of eschatology is interesting, but it is certainly not a salvation issue. If someone (such as me) decides that they don't want to expend a lot of time and energy studying a topic that has no impact on my salvation, then so be it.

What I think is that the prophesies about end times give us encouragement to hold on. I believe that was the purpose of John's Revelation... to give the 1st century church encouragement to hold fast, that their tribulation wouldn't last forever..... and the BIG thing is.... we know who wins!

I believe that if we were meant to figure out all the strange signs and wonders, we would have been told about them, straight up.

I also find it amusing that you can get 10 "students" of eschatology together, and you will get 11 or 12 different versions of "this means this, and that means that." So, if all of those students are being led by the Spirit.... which one of those versions is correct?

Or, is EACH of the versions correct... in its own way?

I to have been there.
When it comes to end time events, the Word has changed my mind on much of what I was taught and what I believed.
BUT, the first thing I had to do was to approach the Word with an open mind and a sincere desire to know the truth.
Put aside what you believe and start over.

People were anointed with oil in the Bible...Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 61, Luke 4 and Acts 10

The virgins with the Oil in the lamps are those that were saved and those virigins without oil were not....

The 5 without went out and bought some oil....yet the bridegroom still did not know them....that is not about faith friend, its about the seal of the Holy Spirit....

MY OH MY!!!!!.....Where would the church world be without your private revelation and 40 years of Study?!?!?!?!?

Me three....lol...

What changed it for me is when I read what Jesus said it will take to overcome in Rev 2-3...that made everything else he said about his return make perfect sense...

The Scriptures tell us that every believer who wants to be the eternal wife of Jesus must make themselves ready . Many believers mistakenly think that they have already made themselves ready just because they are “Christians.” Many believe that since they made a decision to follow Christ, said the sinners’ prayer at the church altar, attend church every Sunday, sing worship songs, say “amen” to the Pastor’s message, and are relatively good people, they have already made themselves ready. As important as these things are, they do not automatically make you ready as a worthy bride. Several scriptures confirm the need to make ourselves ready. A very important one is: Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the Marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready. It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. ’” And he said to me, “These a r e true words of G od” (Rev 19:7-9). Another of these scriptures is the parable of the wedding feast (Matt. 22:1-14). Jesus begins this parable by saying that the kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. As the story goes, the king sent out his slaves to bring people to the feast. First, he sent them to those who had already been invited but were unwilling to come. He sent other slaves to tell the people that everything was ready, but this group paid no attention to the invitation. The third group who was invited persecuted and even killed the slaves. Finally, the slaves went to the highways to invite all they could find. As a result, the wedding hall was filled with those who accepted the invitation. But an interesting observation follows. The king came in to look over the dinner guests and found one man who was not dressed in wedding clothes. The improperly dressed man was immediately removed from the marriage feast. Why? He had accepted the invitation, but he had not clothed himself in wedding garments. That is, he had not made himself ready. Matthew 24 records Jesus’ words to His disciples about the events surrounding His second coming. He tells them many things, but one statement stands out. Even though not specifically about His bride, He tells His followers in the end times: Be on the alert, for you do not know which day you r Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you also must be ready for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will (Matt. 24:42-44). Again, the familiar end-time theme emerges: be ready! One chapter later , but still a continuation of His message from Matthew 24, Jesus tells the parable of the 10 virgins. As the parable goes, being made ready to participate with the Lord in the outworking of His end-time purposes. This requires our having a single eye in order to hear and respond to His work of preparation, and our spirit set toward the Lord, so we can obey all that is required of us. Only then will we be ready in that day to be lifted into a cooperative relationship with our Lord. ... This process will begin when we acknowledge our unconditional dependence upon the Lord, giving total, unqualified permission to Him to do with us all that may be necessary, so we will not only be able to sing this song [the song of victory recorded in Psalm 149:5-9], but also actively participate with the Lord in its full outworking. To be made ready as a worthy bride, we must pursue God’s grace aggressively. Every work of God in our lives is accomplished by God’s grace. Simply defined, grace is God’s power released into our lives to accomplish His purposes in and through us (2 C o r. 12:9). However, a false view of grace has crept into the church. The thinking goes something like this: “God is in control; therefore, He will work out everything He wants to do in my life. I will just sit by passively and let Him do whatever He desires. This type of passive attitude does not activate God’s grace in our lives. When we are passive, things rarely change. This attitude toward the grace of God is unbiblical. Instead, we should pursue God’s grace aggressively. We must aggressively desire change, aggressively pray for change, and aggressively make changes in our lifestyle. Realizing that we are helpless to change on our own, we aggressively cry out f o r God’s grace, and the changes we need, will occur. The Holy Spirit is calling the end time church to “eat the book” and to “keep the prophecy.” Revelation 10:9 states, “So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. And he said to me, ‘Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.’ " In Revelation 22:7, Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book” (NKJV). When Jesus returns , He will reward us for studying His end-time plan (eating the book) and for overcoming whatever entangles us (keeping the prophecy) (Re v. 22: 12). As w e dig into the book of Revelation, along with other end-time scriptures, and as we obey what is written, we will grow in intimacy with Jesus, we will mature as an overcomer, and we will have greater power and authority in ministry. In other words, we will begin our journey of making ours elves ready. More verses about making yourself ready. • Hebrews 9:28
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Luke 12:37
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

Matthew 24:44
Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Matthew 25:10
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Luke 12:40
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Luke 21:28
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up (look for Him), and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

I believe too that oil represents Holy Spirit. There's a scripture about oil flowing from the head down over the body and speaks of unity.
