All i'm doing is quoting the Bible. Just because you don't like what it says doesn't mean
it doesn't say what it does.
Because you know nothing of faith, you suppress the truth by your unrighteousness.

I do not mean to offend anyone by discussing the disorder I am about to mention. After it is no laughing matter, and it is certainly not something a person can control if they have this, but we all have seen our share of "trolls" on the internet. Religious forums seem to attract some of the worst ones. You get the ones that are non believers, and think they can create discussions to "prove" there is no God, and then you get the ones who just love to offend people. There are so many types of trolls out there. Yet, there is likely to be a serious disorder behind it.

Psychologists have taken an interest in internet behavior. I think we all know that sometimes it is easier to be more assertive when you don't have to face the person you are interracting with, yet some take it to extremes.

Research has showed that the typical internet "troll" is comparable to someone with Asperger's Syndrome. This is a mild form of autism. While someone with this syndrome is known to be highly intelligent, and can function quite well in society they lack social skills. They tend to lack empathy for others. They can be arguementive and love controversy.

This does not mean that a troll has Asperger's but due to lack of physical and personal interaction in internet forums some people tend to mimic this behavior.

Just thought I would throw that out there.

Again, I don't mean to offend anyone who has or knows someone with Asperger's. These people are not bad people, and one should NEVER demean someone with this disorder. Whether it is in person or online.

Slavery, in the Old Testament, is much akin to the draft. All are eligible for it when it is in place, however not all are drafted. This is not a perfect comparison, but it is close enough..

Now, if one reads the Word seeking to find problems within he will definitely find problems within. The Gospel, or the Good News, was brought to us by our Savior, Jesus. After reading the Word many times, I have come to believe it is all the Good News, and if or when I read anything that puzzles me, I wait on understanding.

I realize this reply to your post is not an adequate reason for you to suddenly understand, but this approach has always worked perfectly for me because I believe God, Yahweh, is always good, always.

May God bless you and give you complete peace about His Word always, amen.
How do you take Exodus 21:7 out of context?

"21:7 And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
21:8 If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her."

Those are instructions regarding selling your daughter into slavery. Just because you don't like what it says, doesn't mean it doesn't say that.

This topic is a issue with alot of non believers. So it might be a good idea to be very familiar with what the Bible is actually saying. That way when some one comes along and brings this up again. we can at least have better answers & scriptures , then we had this time.

The problem is there is no good, or convincing answer for an unbeliever.

For a good Biblical answer was given in the following:

There is even more to God's purpose in undesirable slavery.
It's found in what Jesus said Jn 8:34: "Everyone who sins is a slave to sin."
We also learn in Ro 3:9-10 that all mankind is under sin.
So everyone on earth is a slave. . .to sin.

And now we're down to its purpose. Slavery was a pattern, symbol, type of mankind's slavery to sin.
To understand, and appreciate, freedom from slavery to sin, by the death of Jesus Christ to those who believe,
God's people needed the experience of slavery in Egypt, and the experience of being delivered out of that slavery by the blood of the lamb on their doorposts.

After the exodus from Egypt, slavery was still ordained for those outside God's people, that they may also understand the meaning of their slavery to sin, and redemption from that slavery among God's people by faith in God.

After the exodus, Hebrews were not allowed to be kept as permanent slaves.
They could be kept as "hired workers" for a period no longer than six years.
Only foreigners to the people of God could be kept as slaves and personal property.
This showed the difference between the people of God redeemed from slavery by the blood of the lamb on their doorposts, and those that were not the people of God.

The parallel to the people of God in Christ today can be easily seen by those who are that people.

As for knowing the pertinent writings on slavery in the Word, I believe I am quite knowledgeable, however this theme has already been addressed and voiced by others responding to this thread. My response was strictly indicating one must have faith that our Maker is good. If one believes one does not encounter any of the Word as something bad or untoward, rather that it is not yet understood. The good, the glory of God, is in the Only Begotten Son and the Gospel which He suffered and died to deliver to each of us. As for non believers posing questions, they will always be somewhat confused at first, that is, until they come to believe or depart.

Better how though?

Yes slavery is regulated in scripture. Yes the slavery setup is prone to abuse. No slavery isn't intrinsically evil and can in fact be done in a way which is good for all parties.

There isn't really a whole lot more to that topic than this. Unless one is prepared to discuss why slavery is evil, and what elements of it are evil there is no conversation to be had on this topic.

This time the posts here had multiple good solid responses to the topic from several different perspectives, the only reason it didn't go anywhere is because the original poster never intended for it to go anywhere and wasn't hearing anyone out.

I went away and came back thinking, you are absolutely right, and you should post this same post for others who do the same. Thank you. God bless you..........

Correct. Back then an employee was bonded and was called a servant. Now we are sent to our house and given a check for the enpenses and told to come back.

I think "godbible" should of been banned along time ago. He got what he deserved as he/she was only willing to bash and not learn. Yet, who knows? Maybe he will be the next Ray Comfort or the next Billy Graham? Right before God hit me over the head with a 2x4, I was no different. I hated Christians. Then God pulled the rug out from under my feet and in 2 months time, I was begging for forgiveness at the foot of the cross. Perhaps "godbible" will end up in similar circumstances.
