Frosting would be the outside of the cake, the delicious part that is immediately apparent.

But the substance of the cake is the cake itself. The type of cake it is, is determined by what is beneath the frosting.

Frosting is only frosting deep.

One can also have frosting inside the cake, between layers...and different kinds of frostings at that.

This was fun, but I think I shall leave the metaphor alone now, and go back to being low-carb. :)

I'm not even going to ask where "gluten-free" fits in to all of this talk of cakes...
