twisted by satan?
ok just so i am understanding correctly, satan is out there deceiving people to follow the commands of the Father, the same commands that Jesus followed and obeyed. and why would he do this, so when they die they are judged for trying to do exactly as Jesus did?
that makes little sense to me.
First, no one can do exactly as Jesus did.
Second, why would (satan) do this, you ask?
To convince people that they have some contribution to make, maybe steal just a LEEETLE bit of glory.
Anything the enemy can do to lessen Jesus' glory and to get man to increase in pride, however subtle, is part of his futile schemes.
Casting doubt on God's Word.
Casting doubt on His Authority, Sovereign love and care,
Sufficiency of His work of redemption on our behalf, etc.
Anything to take the focus off our Lord Jesus and put it on ourselves.
Remember, it was pride that brought the devil his downfall, and it's ours as well.
It's our enemy and God's enemy.
There's nothing wrong with striving towards being a better person as God wills for us, but it's when we get to thinking that we're doing pretty good 'following His commands', or else thinking we can do just as well on our own, that we get on a slippery slope of self-sufficiency, and the Lord has to once again bring us down to reality, not to belittle us, but to remind us of our position in Him, and who is on the throne. Worthy is the Lamb.
Not that we need an enemy to tempt us, we're quite capable of fouling things up with pride on our own. But the enemy knows how to exploit our weaknesses, and sometimes even in our attempts to 'do good' there's that snake whispering in our ear, 'You're doing good, keep it up', but hidden in that is, 'You're doing good (without Jesus), keep it up, you're really growing.' And eventually, 'You're good, you don't REALLY need Him, do you?'
Don't believe the lie, don't even let yourself be set up for it.
Let's have Jesus be our all in all!
