Heres a biblical study i did called "The God Man"
The God Man
· Jesus was God on Earth, and is the 2nd Person of the Godhead
· Distinct from the Father, yet shares the divinity with Him and the Holy Spirit
· Let’s attempt to understand, using scripture, who Christ is…
The Nature of Christ
“The Hypostatic Union”
Greek: hypostasis - sediment, foundation, substance, or subsistence
· The Nature of who Christ is, was, and is to come, is highly misunderstood.
· The Hypostatic Union is a theological study of the Nature/Substance of Christ
· Scripture is very clear on this
Philippians 2:5-11 (ESV)
“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Hebrews 1:3-4 (ESV)
“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.”
· These 2 passages of scripture identify 2 natures of Christ
· His nature of both God and Man
· The Attributes of God and the Weakness of Man
There’s another theological term for the nature of Christ:
Theanthropic (Theos – God, Anthros – Human)
-Embodying deity in a human form; both divine and human.
· This is the union of the two natures (Divine and Human) in the person of Jesus.
· Jesus is God in flesh (John 1:1,14). He is fully God and fully man (Col. 2:9).
· The Natural and Supernatural in Union.
Jesus as God
He is worshiped…
Matt 2:2 “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Matt 2:11 “And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”
Matt 14:33 “And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
He is prayed to…
Acts 7:59 “And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
He is sinless…
1 Peter 2:22 “He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.”
Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
He knows all things…
John 21:17 “He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
He gives eternal life…
John 10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
The fullness of God is in Him…
Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (KJV)
Jesus as Man
He worshiped the Father… (John 17)
He prayed to the Father… (John 17)
He was tempted…
Matthew 4:1 “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”
He grew in wisdom…
Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.”
He died…
Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
He has a body of flesh and bones…
Luke 24:39 “See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”
· The Purpose of Jesus coming to Earth as a man was to Die
· He could not Die as God alone
· He became what He wasn’t, but never ceasing to be what He was
· He needed a body of Flesh, and one was prepared for Him
· As prophesied by King David…and confirmed by the author of Hebrews…
Psalm 40:6
“In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.”
Hebrews 10:5-7
“Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”
A Normal sacrifice was not enough…
Hebrews 9:12-14
"…he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God."
· This explains the Sacrificial Exchange on the Cross, Sin died with Flesh, The Holy Spirit came to us through the exchange of the spirit of Christ.
He had to ascend after He was Resurrected…
John 20:17
“Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
In order for the Helper (Spirit) to come to us…
John 16:7
“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”
Jesus then fulfils the Promise…
John 20:22
“And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
The Exchange of Glory explained by Christ…
John 17:1-5 (ESV)
“When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”
The Glory that the Son had with the Father, can now be accessed by us, through Christ …
Colossians 1:27
“To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Christ dwells in you through the Holy Spirit…
Ephesians 3:16-19 (ESV)
“…according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
The Priestly Exchange / The Sacrifice…
· The Heart of Christ (Ephesians 1:17-21) is given,
· It is a mystery only revealed to those in the New Covenant, you and I, the Covenant of Christ.
Paul explains here…The Mystery of the Gospel…
Ephesians 3:4-6 (ESV)
“When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.”
Romans 16:25-27
“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.”
· We have access to all God the Man (Jesus) was sacrificed for
· In order for God the Father to be made real to us
· Through the Mind of Christ…
1 Corinthians 2:16
“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
Throughout the Gospels it is hinted that Jesus is God in the Flesh…
John 1:1, 14
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 10:30
“I and the Father are one.”
John 17:5
“And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”

“…but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
John 14:10
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.”
John 8:58
“Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
John 12:45
“And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.”
John 16:15
“All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”
Only God can read minds…

“Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”
And Apostle Paul…
Titus 2:13
“…waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ”
1 Timothy 3:16
“Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”
Hebrews 1:8
“But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.”
And Apostle John…

Revelation 1:17-18
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.”
