It is written a man will live three score and ten years, four score by virtue.
yes there’s a steady decline through time as man became more sinful
in the beginning there was life in his presence
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And
the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”
Genesis 2:7
“And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying,
Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Genesis 2:15-17
but then transgression and death after almost a thousand year life
“And all the days that
Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.”
Genesis 5:5 KJV
And ten generations enjoyed thes many years of life
“And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.”
Genesis 5:32 KJV
But then again life is shortened by God the creators word because of wickedness of man
“And the Lord said,
My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
And God saw that
the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
Genesis 6:3, 5-6
and so on until you get to 70-80 years being a long blessed life. But the good news for us is
“Verily, verily, I say unto you,
He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
John 5:24 KJV
“Jesus said unto her,
I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And
whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
John 11:25-26 KJV
so in the end we’re being reconciled to what we had and then lost in the beginning
“And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and
there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden,
and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
And the Lord God took
the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying,
Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof
thou shalt surely die.”
Genesis 2:8-9, 15-17 KJV
man transgresses the commandment of life and death
“And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us,
to know good and evil: and now,
lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
Genesis 3:22-24 KJV
but in Christ we have an open door again to life through the gospel
“
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;
To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
Revelation 2:7 KJV
“
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
Revelation 22:14 KJV
life began to decline for mankind because of sin and continued until Christ came offering salvstion
