There is no fear for Christians who believe the Bible, as it tells us where we are going.
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

Philippians 2:12 (ESV2011, MBM)

Let's be honest. As humans, one of our biggest fears is death.
The wages of sin is death. Sin brings death.
But when the Savior took our place, and paid the penalty we could not pay, the fear of death should be removed.
At this point, we don't obey God for fear of death, but we obey God because we love Him, and His instructions are righteous.

See Romans 6:13-16
Yep. Loving God and neighbor. It's all good.

Philippians 2:12 (ESV2011, MBM)

Fear and trembling is misunderstood. It means a "lack of trust in one's own abilities." In other words, we are dependent upon Jesus Christ and rest in Him. Look in the Greek and other verses that use that saying, even the apostle Paul spoke of preaching with fear and much trembling, meaning distrusting in his own abilities and relying on the Spirit's power.

It is an interesting to study out in the N.T. the term "fear and trembling". It is not what it was in the O.T.

If we let scripture interpret scripture we see that in the 2 other places where "fear and trembling" was used it referred to the woman with the issue of blood and Jesus healed her. She experienced the goodness and love of Jesus and she had awe and reverence for the goodness done to her.

Mark 5:33 (KJV)
[SUP]33 [/SUP] But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

The other usage was Paul and he was referring to having no confidence in himself as he was coming to preach the gospel to the Corinthians. 1 Cor. 2:3-5

Fear and trembling = being in awe and reverence of the goodness of God to us and our complete reliance on Him for all things..especially in preaching the gospel.

It is never being "afraid" of God. It's knowing His love for us that takes away the bad kind of fear.

1 John 4:17-19 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.

[SUP]18 [/SUP] There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

[SUP]19 [/SUP] We love, because He first loved us.

Why is it that every passage that goes against your own theology, you always say, "this is misunderstood"?

What has that got to do with death??. as long as a Christian is living right, They have no fear of death, or missing heaven.

Because we who are sons must see everything IN RELATION TO the cross now because we are now sons. If you are reading the Bible apart from the cross., you will not rightly interpret the meaning concerning you if you are a son., it all changes when you are IN Christ because the cross changes everything. Jesus makes all things new.

I think it is more to deal with being humble, not a person of entitlement, and such qualities as that.

What I do is use scripture to define what scripture is saying. I realize that the teaching of Christ and His love and grace go against your religion but that's the way it goes. Come to Christ and be free!...then you can walk in newness of life.

well I am trying to understand you. If you use Scripture, to define Scripture, and not a lot of commentary to "explain" it, you do well my friend.

According to the Greek, Fear, means either, "To reverence God, or to be in dread and terror".
And "Trembling means, A quaking with fear".

So we either reverence God and quake with fear, or,
We are in dread or terror of God, with a quaking fear. So either way, we have to let God do a work in us, Phil 2: 13.

We should fear and tremble, [In a good sense], as it keeps us in the will of God.
Because going out of God's will, or disobedience could lead to, defeat, lack of blessings, sickness or even death.
So we should let God do a work in us.

you know, it certainly does sound like the god you describe, ( not the real God ) , is " 4 you " sounds like he is really hard to please, concerned about clothes, things like that. I invite to experience the Love of the REAL God, who loves you so much he sent his son to die for your sin. that is 4 you.

A humble faithful person of faith, will receive their entitlement, as it's already been provided by Jesus.

What is obsolete is man-made traditions by the leaders of the written and oral law and man-made twisting and confusion that makes Paul out to be schizophrenic.

God's law will never be obsolete
.

Matthew 7:A Tree and its Fruit
21Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me onthat day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Yourname, and in Your name drive out demons andperform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.’… <<<<<<<---------------

Salvation for Zion

Isaiah 51:5"My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth, And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands will wait for Me, And for My arm they will wait expectantly. 6"Lift up your eyes to the sky, Then look to the earth beneath; For the sky will vanish like smoke, And the earth will wear out like a garment And its inhabitants will die in like manner; But My salvationwill be forever, And My righteousness will not wane.7"Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, A people in whose heart is My law; Do not fear the reproach of man, Nor be dismayed at their revilings.…

Hebrews 8:13

By calling this covenant “new,” He has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
Amen...And it completely disappeared in 70AD when the romans came in and sacked the temple and ended the sacrifices. They tore apart every stone just like Jesus predicted they would because the Jews refused Jesus.

In order for the "law-keepers" to keep the whole law - they need to go back to the temple system of sacrifices which has been destroyed. The book of Hebrews warns people to not rely on the old obsolete Jewish system but to rely only on Christ alone.

You can disbelieve the Bible, but I will believe it.
The false grace teachers don't fear and tremble, because they have been deceived into believing that all their sins have been forgiven, So no matter what they do, or don't do, they will still be blessed.

Read all the things that Jesus has provided for us, and you'll see what we are entitled to.
And that is a perfect example of the mindset that legalism produces. "Look what I've done God, now give me what I am entitled to." It's sick. Really, really sick.
