List at least 3 of your favorite pastor/teacher/theologians from yesteryear. (do not include writers/teachers in the bible itself)
Why do I ask? It helps us to get a rough idea where each is coming from.

Mine are in no particular order...
Martyn Lloyd Jones
Martin Luther (not King)
Charles Spurgeon.

1. John Calvin
2. CS Lewis (who I would roughly describe as an Ariminian, so I should get points for balance :p)
3. Augustine of Hippo

Oh, and A.W. Tozer. I've heard he's very good. Maybe a bit of Dietrich Bonhoeffer too.

My beef with Bonhoeffer has to do with his best quality: i.e. his courage. Brilliant man willing to stand up for good when it was arguably most difficult.

That said, not a great theologian. However, I have only read things about him, not his actual work.

Ritter, true, maybe he wasn't a great theologian but he was a great man of God.

I'm rather surprised you do not have Pope St. Pius X listed. My monk friend can't get enough of him.

I kid you not. My best friend is in training to be a Catholic monk.

I did not read that much. Just began to pick up books again recently.

I assume by yesteryyear you mean those who are dead.

Leonard Ravenhill is the only one I have had much encounter with. I am so glad he was one of the first preachers I listened to when beginning this whirlwind of adventure. I have a good impression of A. W. Pink. I have barely any familiarity with Spurgeon, but I like what I've seen.

Of the living:
Paul Washer
James White
Alistair Begg
Ravi Zacharias
John Piper
Albert Mohler Jr. (President of Southern Seminary)

I hope to learn more about J. C. Ryle.
