Apostasia means rebellion. That is essentially how it is used in Acts 21:21 and throughout the septuagint.

Alan Kurschner
The term certainly does not mean rebellion in every instance. It depends upon context. And other factors such as fundamental biblical doctrine like soteriology. There must be no conflict in that regard.

Claiming that every single born-again elect Christian in the world becomes apostate......is absurd on its face. It runs contrary to everything known about the fundamental nature of the Church.

Typical of those who fire off half cocked. The poster gave NO evidence that I made any false accusation. So, instead of citing a post #, he just dismisses his own error by ignoring it.

So typical. Putting someone on "ignore" only allows them to avoid serious challenges and legitimate concerns, that they don't want to have to face.
Agreed. My ignore list has no one on it. In fact, I love a challenge. I don't even report people when they get nasty.

Lets play this out using the assumtion that wicked are taken away.

We have BEFORE THE FLOOD a loaded and ready boat.
We have a deluge.
We have ( per common assumption) some imaginary tidal wave that only takes wicked but ark just sits on the earth.

.....AND TO TOP OT OFF iT KILLS(remember...it takes them all away)SUDDENLY WORLD WIDE? all while ark is sitting on the earth?

The wicked had to seek higher ground with the ark being lifted and taken first.
The wicked went down. Drowning is a downward dynamic. Ark would be the one lifted.

I am glad i am free to just read the story for what it is

No rabbit trails of reframing the obvious

I'm no language expert. I had heard that apostasia could refer to a simple departure. It doesn't really matter to me in this case because I already made the case you're making, that is refers, in this instance to a falling away from the faith. But I bear in mind your thoughts on this.
Yes it is literal departure

Falling away from faith, is ...or could be ... Implied.

It is just that simple.

It proves zero for either side of the debate.

I am in a unique position in that i can just read it for what it is.

We can easily say we are in an apostate world.

What is the born again serious believrs % of the population?
1% ?

Works for me.

It serves neither side significantly.

It is one component out if several

The Greeks had a word for "fall"... "G4098 piptó" like is used in Rev9:1 "...and I saw a star fall [G4098] from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given..." ... and yes, I see this as a "negative" (esp. per that context)... but the word under discussion (in 2Th2:3) is not that word.

Again, the FIRST SEVEN ENGLISH translations had it as "a departure"/"a departing," well before the kjv (1600s) ever even existed... and the Latin Vulgate (400s), in this verse, had the Latin word "discessio" which means "departure".

So it is not "pre-tribbers" who've changed it, see. ;)

["apostasia" = "LATER FORM FOR apostasis"... Liddell and Scott Greek-English Lexicon... "apo" and "STASIS" ;) ]
Yes
Literally " from standing"
Departure
No brainer.

Implied "from the faith" but must be added per whoever is translating

I think you missed the salient point. That being born again true believers NEVER leave the faith.

There certainly will be millions upon millions of believing Christians on the earth at twilight, who will be raptured in the twinkling of an eye before the DARKNESS/DOTL comes.

To postulate that all Christians will (by some superior power or influence over and above Christ) become apostate is unscriptural and in fact impossible. Unless you believe in the heresy of "losing your salvation".
No, I agree with you on OSAS. Genuine Christians do indeed walk away, because anybody can in a sense "lose their minds." Emotional issues can disrupt the norm, and God judges compassionately, understanding every situation.

So when I refer to Christianity departing from the faith, I speak of nominal Christianity. Nominal Christianity are Christians who are associated by name with Christianity. Over generations, those who come under the umbrella of "Christianity" have ceased to be Christians within, but are only following external Christian practices, such as going to church and following a watered down version of Christian morality. And because they are not genuine Christians on the inside, and only follow Christianity externally, they eventually walk away from it.

I don't know what makes you "unique," but it doesn't matter to me what "apostasia" literally means to a Greek person as much as how the word is being used in context. If I want to know about the word in the original language, I would ask my brother, who is somewhat trained to find out.

As far as I can tell, most of the pre-trib crowd aren't going to accept any of the proofs for a post-trib rapture.

It isn't that they can't understand why there is a post-trib rapture; they understand exactly why the Bible proves there is a post-trib rapture and they're intelligent enough to see it.

What were witnessing here are people with die-hard denominational loyalties and other ulterior motives. I'm almost positive this is the case.
Yes, I know and agree. I've been arguing Postrib since the late 70s. I understand the arguments through and through. The purpose to argue now isn't to convince the "die hards," but rather to address the questions today, because there are thousands of others who will listen to these arguments and don't have their minds made up.

My own previous pastors told me they were interested in hearing me out on this debate. But in the end they turned away. They gave me their email address and phone number, and they ignored both. My current pastor was willing to hear me out, and instead of arguing it, his argument was that our denomination requires Pretrib Teaching. When I told him I wrote to ask the denomination, and they refused to respond, he said they route these kinds of questions through the local pastor. ;)

Before we start I want to look the roll prophet; they are to bring the divine word of to the people. Second They are to confront the people of God when they are out of steep with the will of God. Thirdly They are to confront the general population, the ruling class, government, kings ect. when they have walked away from Gods laws, outright broken Gods laws, and when they are mistreating the people under their rule or authority. This is the same roll of a pastor today. I do understand that there differences in the roles of pastor, preacher, teacher, elders ect. You will find me putting them all together in places a people that are to be teaching the Word of God as written and the traditions of men that make void the Word of God. This also applies to church doctrine.

Ezekiel 13

1And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Make sure you notice whose word came unto Ezekiel 2Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD; You have heard the old saying what is good for the goose is good for the gander. That applies here, what was good for Israel then is good for us today. We do have a lot of pastors, preachers, teachers that do prophesy out of their own hearts and minds and not the true Word of God. 3Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! Anyone that clams to be bringing you truth about Gods word “I put myself in there” better make sure they are teaching the truth of God word and not their own doctrine or traditions. 4O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. This is the little foxes that get into the vineyard and spoil it, run through it and knock off the blossoms so that the vineyard can't produce fruit. 5Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. There is a lot said in that verse. Remember God is talking about false prophets, pastors, preachers etc. What have they failed to do?They have failed to make a strong wall or fix holes and gaps in the hedge that is surrounding the vineyard. Is your church, Sunday school class small group surrounded by a strong wall being built on the foundation of Gods word. 6They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. Jesus had the same problem that Ezekiel is writing about in His day. Matthew 23 is a whole chapter about their hypocrisy, and the same thing goes on today. There is nothing new under the sun. 7Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? You say the Lord said, the bible says, and they have not said it. 8Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD. You don't want God against you. This not only applies to leadership, as a member of the congregation you need to be going home and studying to show yourself approved unto God. Don't take my word for this, or any mans word without checking it out in God's word. 9And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD. God is talking future here. He is talking about the New Jerusalem and if your name is not in the book of live you will not be their. Whole different bible study but you need to ear the fruit from the right tree. 10Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter. Untempered morter: plain clay it has no real strength to it no protection. Just like the false teaching of some like the rapture it provides false protection. It will not stand in the end. 11Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. Build your house on the rock which is Christ and it will stand and provide you protection. 12Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it? You have whitewashed the wall and the rains came and washed it away and now the people what to know why. 13Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. God is saying He will bring a storm against that false teaching and show it for what it really is. Worthless words! 14So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. I thank that about says it all.

No, it does not have that meaning.

The word "falling away" is apostasia from where we get the words Apostate and Apostasy. Obviously it means a moral and spiritual "departure" not a physical departure.

G646
a?p?stas?´a
apostasia
Thayer Definition:
1) a falling away, defection, apostasy
Part of Speech: noun feminine
A Related Word by Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: feminine of the same as G647
Citing in TDNT: 1:513, 88

Total KJV occurrences: 2

The only other use of this word in the bible was people departing from the teachings of Moses. Neither use has anything to do with simply going somewhere physically.

*********************************

From Liddell and Scott:

A defection, revolt, v.l. in D.H.7.1, J.Vit.10, Plu.Galb.1; esp. in religious sense, rebellion against God, apostasy, LXX Jo.22.22, 2 Ep.Th.2.3.

They specifically cite 2Th 2:3 as being a defection "in religious sense, rebellion against God".

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away (apostasia) first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

You are going to want to GUESS AGAIN!

1 John 2:19 (NKJV)
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

Jeremiah 5:23-24 (YLT)
23 And this people hath an apostate and rebellious heart, They have turned aside, and they go on.
24 And they have not said in their heart, `Let us fear, we pray you, Jehovah our God, who is giving rain, The sprinkling and the gathered, in its season, The appointed weeks of harvest He keepeth for us.'

Isaiah 65:2-4 (YLT)
2 I have spread out My hands all the day Unto an apostate people, Who are going in the way not good after their own thoughts.
3 The people who are provoking Me to anger, To My face continually, Sacrificing in gardens, and making perfume on the bricks:
4 Who are dwelling among sepulchres, And lodge in reserved places, Who are eating flesh of the sow, And a piece of abominable things--their vessels.

1 Maccabees 1:52-53 (NJB)
52 Many of the people—that is, every apostate from the Law—rallied to them and so committed evil in the country,
53 forcing Israel into hiding in any possible place of refuge.

I have a suggestion, take a long Sabbatical, and this time really study the BIBLE; instead of just trying to wing it on your opinions.

I tried to read this, but unfortunately it needs a little editing. It looks like the body of your personal commentary is mixing with the cited scripture. Please see if you can add some line breaks just to separate your own words from the scripture.

There WILL be legitimate believing born-again Christians at the twilight. Right up to the split second before the DOTL is ushered in. Case closed.

Your theory demands that EVERY born-again Christian in the world suddenly becomes totally apostate. Total wholesale complete capitulation and utter apostasy. Absolutely impossible. The Church is victorious right to the end it doesn't curl up in a ball, desiccate and die.

All I see on this thread is post-trib denial.
Here is Bing's view on all this.

Apostasia and its cognate forms and related words are used over 40 times in the Septuagint, and they are all used of a political or religious defection or rebellion.

Confirmation bias.....one gets the feeling that apostasia has no chance here it - will mean whatever each camp decides it should mean

15Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; Come the end God is going to destroy everything that I evil, not of God. 16To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD. They will cry peace peace but there will be no peace. Yes He is talking about getting ready of the end times. Why? If we live long enough we will be here at the end. At the sound of the seventh trump. (I will document this later) 17Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them, Yes there are woman prophets. In the New Testament all of Philip's daughters, and there were others in the Old Testament you had woman like Deborah that were real prophetess of God. 18And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you? I thank this is to include men as well as woman. You have to picture this, hold out your arms in front of you. Picture them with big pillows sewn from the shoulder to the wrist. How much work do you thank you could do like that? Then on top of that remembering you are holding your arms out in front of you so you can get a clear picture of what is happening to you; Look at your hands and again picture them with kerchiefs running in between and around your fingers and hands. I ask again do you thank you would be able to do much being like that. This is the way God is when false prophets, prophetesses, preachers, pastors, teachers bring forth false doctrines and teaching such as the rapture. 19And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies. Pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and a few pieces of bread: Will you dirty Me up with your false teaching and sweet words that everything is going to be ok. You don't have to study the book of Revelation you are going to be gone. What do you lie about Me for? MONEY! And what happens to the people setting in your churches? You slay their souls 20Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly. God is against your false teaching that covers his out stretched arms and hands. And what is that teaching I am going to fly you away. 21Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that am the LORD. God will take His people those that love Him and want to know the truth from false teaching. Those that don't listen Their blood is on your hands because you have murdered their soul with your lies. 22Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life: That sums up what I just said. 23Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divination's: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. I hope this part of this study will help open the eyes and ears of some to flee the false teachings of so many. Notice I did not say all.

Part two to follow. May you all have eyes to see the truth of Gods word and ears to hear the truth of Gods word. DO NOT take my word for this please check it out for your self. Again test the fruit and eat the fruit from the right tree.
