I wanted to compile here in one location things concerning Hebrews 4:9 that I have learned incrementally in other threads.

Chapters 3 and 4 in the book of Hebrews deal with the critical importance of persevering in the faith of Christ in order to enter into GOD's eternal rest from our earthly labors.

Hebrews 4:9 says:

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Hebrews 4:9 (KJV)

Consequently a sabbath rest remains for the people of God. Hebrews 4:9 (LEB)

A literal translation of this verse says:

Consequently, a keeping of a sabbath is left to GOD's people. Hebrews 4:9

The Greek word translated rest and sabbath rest above is σαββατισμός (sabbatismos, G4520), which is a noun meaning a keeping of a sabbath. It can refer to a kept weekly sabbath (Exodus 20:8), a kept 7-year land sabbath (Leviticus 25:2), or a kept festival (appointed time) sabbath (Leviticus 25:32). Scriptural context determines the type of sabbath.

It is an unusual word that is used only one time in the NT (Hebrews 4:9), not at all in the Greek Septuagint (LXX), and very rarely in other ancient writings. The verb form of this word is σαββατίζω (sabbatizo), which means to keep a sabbath. It is not used in the New Testament, but is used in the LXX to refer to keeping all three types of sabbaths listed above (weekly, 7-year land, appointed time).

The context of chapters 3 and 4 in Hebrews is not a weekly sabbath, nor a 7-year land sabbath, but the sabbath rest of the land promised to Israel, which many under Moses were not able to enter into because of unbelief. The context of these chapters also centers around faith.

The most interesting usage of σαββατίζω (sabbatizo, to keep a sabbath) in the LXX is in Leviticus 23:32 where Israel is commanded yearly to keep the sabbath of the day of atonement. This appointed time was a sabbath of sabbaths (essentially a most holy sabbath), and was the holiest day of the year in which Israel's sins were removed for a year. The appointed time of Tabernacles began on the 15th day of the month, 5 days after the day of atonement, and was a time set apart for Israel to rest from their yearly labors. The first day of this festival was a sabbath, and the day following this festival was a sabbath; so it was bracketed by special sabbaths that were distinct from any weekly sabbaths that occurred during that time.

Genesis 7:11 states that Noah’s ark rested on the 17th day of the 7th month. This day falls within the 7-day festival of Tabernacles, which is the 7th festival (or appointed time) of YHWH. The number 7 always signifies rest from labor.

Additionally, the children of Israel were originally supposed to enter into rest in the promised land during the time of first ripe grapes. That harvest occurs in the fall of the year, as do the appointed times of the day of atonement and Tabernacles.

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan ... Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes. Numbers 13:17-20

In other words, GOD's original plan for their entering into rest corresponded with these appointed times in the fall.

However, they did not enter in under Moses because of unbelief, and subsequently wandered in the desert for 40 years. Afterwards they entered the promised land under Joshua just before Passover in the first month of the year. But they did not enter into the true rest that GOD has planned for his people from the foundation of the world, as indicated in Hebrews 4:8:

For if Joshua had caused them to rest, he would not have spoken about another day after these things. Hebrews 4:8

This change of entering the promised land (which symbolizes rest) from the appointed times in the 7th month to the appointed time of Passover in the first month signifies GOD's postponement of his people's true rest until Christ, our Passover, could accomplish and establish the more excellent way that would allow GOD's people to forever enter into their final rest in the (as of yet) unfulfilled appointed times of YHWH.

So, IMO, the future fulfillments of these appointed times (what he calls another day) are what the writer of Hebrews is referring to in Hebrew 4:8-9. The example of disobedient Israelites not entering into rest in the promised land through unbelief warns us to always strive through faith to enter into Christ's rest, that culminates in the keeping of the sabbath of the fulfilled day of atonement and subsequent festival of Tabernacles, when those who do believe fully enter into GOD's promised eternal rest.

So let us strive daily to enter into this keeping of a sabbath that is left for GOD's people when Christ returns to give them rest.

Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

Tell you what,,,You can use many words to complicate and confuse others.

I tell you the truth.

The Sabbath is the 7th day, Saturday!

Catholics & Protestants shall soon unite. The uniting Point will be the False Sunday Sabbath that they both hold dear.

Laws will be passed in the United States that will enforce the Observance of Sunday.

That is called the Mark of the Beast! And anybody that observes Sunday as a holy day once it is enforced will incur the Mark of the Beast!

That's simple and all can understand!

"Come out of her, My people."

Yes, Saturday is the sabbath, which is a shadow of the reality, Christ, who has ceased from his works.
And what does that mean? To you, obviously it means that the command to not murder another person is also a shadow; hence, we can murder freely now? That goes for all the other commandments as well, except in your opinion, the sabbath! God HIMSELF made it perfectly clear what the sabbath represents and why He put in in the 10 commandments: HE said it represents that He, the creator who made everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th is our God. Has that changed? Is He no longer our God now who made the world in 6 days, etc.? and we declare that on a weekly basis by keeping the sabbath? The sabbath is the seal! Christ fulfilled the whole law by keeping it perfectly and then dying for those who couldn't, all of us obviously, so we could then keep it under His grace. And around and around we go.

Here we go again. (with apologies to Stephen...)

No, seriously...

Do you consider the law requiring righteousness to be the same thing as righteousness?

Well... yeah. lol. Again, doing as Christ asked, which was to keep the commandments, can only happen through Him. It's not possible for us alone without His help, not mention His death on the cross in the first place. But then we just go and do our best to do His will in every way possible. Right? Don't we all do that anyway? The question here isn't that; the question here is whether or not God still wants us to keep sabbath on the 7th day of the week like the commandment says. Surely we all agree that God always wants us to live righteously. To keep having to repeat that it's only through Christ we can accomplish that gets pretty silly.

I mean that surely that should already be understood.

And if I may say so, today is a great day to start keeping this Sabbath, if you haven't before. Remember, God did specifically talk about the blessing of keeping a Sabbath on a particular day. Whether you want to attribute that instruction as to the Israelites only, no one can deny that there is a great physical blessing for keeping an actual physical Sabbath day. And as you keep the physical, ask God to meet with you spiritually as well (Yes, I know He meets with us everyday, but there is nothing wrong with asking for and expecting another intimate experience with our God).

So whether you want me to say it or not, I'm gonna.....

Shabbat Shalom! Have a great Sabbath!
Matt

But he has not yet emerged from the holy place to send away the sins of his people on the scapegoat. That would be the fulfillment of the day of atonement. Christ has destroyed the power of sin, and cleansed the sins of those who believe, but sin is yet with us in a big way. Therefore, it is impossible that that day has been fulfilled.

If you're trying to do things to please GOD, you're being disobedient because GOD requires perfect obedience, and you are not perfect. On the other hand, if you rest in Christ's perfect work for you through faith, and let it have it's perfect work in you, you will please GOD.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God (Name). In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made (Title: Creator) the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them (Jurisdiction), and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it (Exodus 20: 8-11 NKJV).

The Sabbath commandment contains elements not contained in any of the other commandments. It states the name of the Lawgiver (LORD), His territory (heaven and Earth), and His title (Creator). These three components comprise what is known as a seal, and lend authority to the law. The Ten Commandments gain their validity only from the royal seal of the Creator God embodied in the Sabbath commandment.

In ancient times, kings were required to ratify decrees or commands with the royal seal (1 Kings 21:8). Without a royal seal, no law would be valid. Moreover, even with a royal seal, a law is only valid in the area of the king’s jurisdiction. For example, Canadian law is not applicable in Switzerland. So in a sense, it can be said that without a seal, no law would be valid anywhere. The law of the Ten Commandments is no different.

The Sabbath of the Ten Commandments and the Sabbaths of the ceremonial law distinguished Israel from all other nations. The Sabbaths bound them to God as His covenant people. God called the Sabbath of the Ten Commandments a sign between Him and His people forever, (are we not now God's people, those of us who have been grafted into the vine?) because it was He who sanctified them (Exodus 31:17).

Dad: hey son you work to much getting beat around at school, I want you to take a break on the weekends and reflect on life for a bit!
Son: I'm good I can handle it, plus these jerks I take on all day.
Dad: why don't we spend time together relaxing from all your stress, and do stuff together father and son!
Son: okay dad your right lets do that :)
*after the weekend*
Son: hey dad that was a lot of fun, and it gave me so much stressless peace, we should hang out everyday together!
Dad: I told you it's for the better of you!

No, not me...

Matt 12:8 For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”
Mark 2:28 So then, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
Luke 6:5 And he said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

The Ten Commandments gain their validity only from the royal seal of the Creator God embodied in the Sabbath commandment.
This is absurd. GOD's laws gain their validity from GOD himself.

God called the Sabbath of the Ten Commandments a sign between Him and His people forever.
The Hebrew word olam that is translated forever does not necessarily mean forever. I'm not going to get into a word study here, but you can research it yourself if you are interested. Olam just means vanishing point, i.e., out of sight.

. Genesis 7:11 states that Noah’s ark rested on the 17th day of the 7th month. This day falls within the 7-day festival of Tabernacles said:
I think you did a good Job on this and God's people do look for the time of the 7th day the Sabbath of the LORD. You did write about the other Sabbath so you can see that the Sabbath is a time set by God for us to bring him honor. We bring him honor when we do things his way. Yeshua said those who love me will do what I say.

Genesis 8:4and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Above verse is before the time of the start of months was changed in Exodus. This would be the 17th of Nisan and in some peoples calculation this would be the day Yeshua rose from the dead Feast of first fruits for the year he died

Yes, Nisan is now the 1st month the change, " This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year".Exodus 12:2
