Don't think this. It's the intellectual game the devil the serpent played in the garden. Eve was completed, but evil made her think she wasn't there yet, something missing, that she needed to know. The word is the sword to attack. The holy spirit brings the words back to us, to encourage us, to remind us he Loves us, and build our self esteem up, when attacks attack the mind, if someone does not know the truth of the word, they will be overtaken with the lies, as eve was. We are not ignornat of the divices of the evil. Not knowing the word is not being wise and in the light. Knowing the Lord Jesus is knowing about him from lessons, but knowing him personally is spritual growth, We die spritually and become weak without daily food of the Lord. Your not stupid, it's a lie, the enemy dosn't want you strong, and is leading you down the wronge path.

SavedandHopeful - just get a version that you can read - New Living or the Message are the farthest from the text, but easiest to read. They are called "dynamic equivalent" translations or "sense-for-sense" in that they try and convey the meaning of the phrases, not just individual words..

In the middle are ones like NIV, and Holman's which are more fluid but a bit closer to the Hebrew and Greek texts.

KJV, NASB and ESV are "formal equivalent" or "word-for-word" translations. Some of them keep the grammar of the original languages, which can be awkward to read if you are not used to it.

Whatever version you read, just make sure you read it daily. Start with the book of John. I would also say to read the Psalms. The Old Testament Narratives (Genesis - Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel and 1 & 2 Kings and Chronicles) are also interesting stories to read. Always remember not to interpret it from now backwards, but to realize it was a very different culture, and there are timeless principles, and some cultural principles which do not apply to now (the laws of the Levitical priests, for example.)

God bless you as you start reading the Bible - may you find not controversy, but Jesus Christ - Lord and Saviour of all!

Just find some version of the Bible you trust, and read it. You'll learn a lot more from that than listening to us.

NKJV I like a lot and a lot of the older English terms are modernized while keeping the ones that aren't so difficult. I also love the ESV translation. You should give it a shot. The 1611 KJV is hard for me to get past a few pages before getting a headache. Ignore the cults and don't let em intimidate you.

Angela had good advice, but I would personally recommend staying away from New Living Translation and the Message. These have oversimplified things to the point of corrupting the message IMO. I personally think NKJV and ESV are best. Studying with someone who was using NIV, we realized that many verses had reversed meanings from other translations and that certain parts were actually missing, so I would only use that one if you are cross-referencing with other versions.

I know a guy has seen over 30 people raised from the dead.

you know what he reads?

The amplified version.

God looks at your heart, you know what your heart is

It keeps you alive, its your drive, your motivation, your attittude.

God loves relationships.

I have mostly NJV's and two NKJV,one ESV...I find my NIV easiest for me(also the main one used by my pastor)...I do like to study from all three, but the main daily reading for me is NIV....but with all the talk about KJV, I guess I feel intimidated.

I think that is exactly what the KJV only people are trying to do. Scare you!

God reveals himself everywhere - even in nature. It sounds like you have got a good collection of Bibles. I've read about 12 different versions cover to cover. Except the authorized KJV - just too hard to read. Seriously, Greek and Hebrew are easier!!

Nothing wrong with the ones you are using.

I know a guy who knows a guy too. I'd really love to meet these over 30 people. You'd think something like that would make national news every once in a while, or at the very least the 11 o'clock news or some obscure section of a newspaper or magazine. The signs and wonders (better titled as sins and blunders movement IMO) has mentioned hundreds, if not thousands being raised from the dead.Where are all of these people...?? That's one heck of a testimony and I'd be willing to bet I could get on any national TV broadcast I wanted to share my story with the entire world if I had been raised from the dead.

These stories keep unbelievers in the dark and destroys any attempt at sharing the Gospel with some.

It's ok, relax. God understand you and your situation perfectly well. Don't worry about what others, who don't understand you or your situation, say. Read what's understandable. It's always good to compare with other translations. Just take things one step at a time. God meets you at your level. God doesn't expect you to know everything or get everything right, that's His department.

The language in the KJV is antiquated.

I am not joking. I do not know him personally, but I know him. His name is David Hogan.

Here we are, sir. :) 2011 G.I.T.S. David Hogan - XPMedia.com
I'm Not a sir lol, though I admire your respect to an elder, thank-you :) if you don't mind, i'll pass on the video; as I know that this would not be possible at this time of God's Plan. Remember our warning; and I WILL send them STRONG delusion.

Do NOT under-estimate the power of our enemy; Satan/Death.

In this generation there are no chosen people of God left in the Plan, save the 2 Great Witnesses, the rest of us just witnesses.

So IF this is very recent, and you believe that he is one of the two; and tell me that! then I would look.
