Jacobus Arminius is just the Latinized version of Jakob Hermanszoon....

would Hermanszoonism be better?
Yes! Just because there is no country named Hermenanszoonia.

i think John Calvin would be horrified to find people using his name, though, don't you?

for him it seems it was just about the doctrines of grace
Yeah. He never even found out anything about TULIP.

Depends!

(With reference to the title and the OP)

IF they have just repented and confessed all the sins they have committed since the last time they have repented and confessed every sin - before they have a chance, to move, think or breath, and they die - then they are still saved and going to heaven.

IF they have NOT just immediately done the above, then they have obviously lost their salvation, and will have to sit the rest of eternity in hell wondering why they weren't repenting/confessing 24//7 and if maybe those people who believed in eternal security, who were not to be seen anywhere in hell, were right.

(Just being snarky - God, of course, is the only judge! But the above has always seemed like the logical consequence of Arminianism and the false doctrine that a believer saved by God, can lose his salvation (or gain it!) by what he does, or does not do!)

PS. Not saying we don't live for Christ and obey his commands. That goes with the joy of knowing Christ, abiding in him, and walking with him daily!
That was snarky? I was leaning more toward that was sarcastic, than snarky. (Snarky, in my mind, is nasty sarcasm.)

I really don't have any problems with Arm... (I give up. Every time I use that word, I have to look it up, so I don't use the word meaning people who live in Armenia.) Wesleyans. I was saved at 16, as a Catholic and remained with some of my old teachings long after salvation. And then I went straight into Wesleyan beliefs. BUT I was saved at 16, and had I died at 16 with all that heap of could-I-be-any-wronger left on me, I would still be saved.

I'm about to turn 60. I am fully aware I am probably still wrong on some of my beliefs. For all I know, many of them. (Of course, I also fully believe what I believe is right too. That hasn't changed much. lol) But what I am not wrong about is I am saved by God, and his strength (mercy, love, grace, and even his justice) saves me, not my knowledge or understanding.

Never gonna happen that all believers agree with one another here on earth. It does not mean we aren't believers... unless the beliefs are in a false god. It means God gave us the belief we need to trust in him, which is also God given.

Are you kidding? This is for real?? How come they never taught that to us in Seminary? It would seem like the Dutch are taking over here.

I will have to write that down and remember it! LOL
Meh. Something about that time in Europe. Lots of people changed their names to Roman names. I never bothered to learn why. I didn't even pick up on it until I noticed many of my commentators kept talking about other dead guys, and I did some digging into who the commentators were trusting for their commentaries, only to discover most of the Roman names were much later than Rome lasted.

useless trivia???
The Yankees comes from Jan and Kees and coleslaw from koolsla. Very important things to know in life.
I like watching nonsense on youtube.
Coleslaw just isn't important. :) (Although why do we have obviously European names for a description of Americans?)

my dad's maternal grandparents were Dutch
My great grandfather's great grandfather was Dutch, but I'm talking Pennsylvania Dutch, (Amish), which is a bit different than Dutch Dutch.

the REAL question here should be "are REDNECKS going to heaven?"

I need the answer to that one.... I speak fluent redneck..
I've got family and old friends who were/are rednecks. Last I heard, only one of them is saved/going to heaven.

I looked up Arminianism on Wikipedia, but the first paragraph was too long for my attention span.
Wait? Wasn't it only two sentences? (With ten $20 words per sentence?)

I really think my neighbors must think I'm nuts. They know hubby isn't here, so why is "she" laughing so loud all by herself?

I thank God always that Jesus Christ has taught us a teaching that frees us all of the burden of judging others to condemnation. What relief and joy to extend to all the mercy I have received, miserable sinner that I am.

One of the lessons from our Lord in particular is in my signature.

That's the point. We're into dividing God into ever increasingly small parts, like he just couldn't handle dealing with people from Gloucester County NJ born in the month of April but only in even years. And surely how could he ever save people before Christ came?

it's a very good point, too.

you made me look up a word!
i had always thought of snarky being slightly less than sarcastic, but Merriam Webster says:

1. crotchety; snappish
2. sarcastic, impertinent, or irreverent in tone or manner

oh, and to be helpful  there's a town near here called Amenia.
we could throw that in the mix ;)

judging the hearts of others is not my place. :)

Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

i must have been typically unclear

i meant in the matter of whether or not a person is saved. sometimes you can see for sure they are, and sometimes you just don't know, y'know? :)
(so leave that to the Lord)
