i would say the bible teaches this

Gen 3 16
16 To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.

women have more issues with childbirth than any other animal on the planet.
Hijaybird,
Jaybird, and all other interested in this,

What translation was that pls?

There, I see this pain in childbirth thing is such a given to our generation and culture(s), but for moms who have experienced both painful and non-painful birth, I would derail this thread again (sorry, lauren) to mention that a fraction of women in history and in various cultures have not actually experienced this pain the same way most all movies, secular books, even many Christian materials have promoted thru the ages. I am not saying all we have learned abt pain in childbirth in our short lives is wrong, but if any have read some of Margaret mead’s (a cultural anthropologist), comments on these, birth is also affected by one;s cultural upbringing, etc. Somewhere I mentioned the Bible translations esp. more recent, also use the word pain where it is not in the original Hebrew/Septuagint. Painful childbirth is something most of us take for granted, for that is what we grew up with. I understand a few on cc have mentioned something.. was it auntiaunt abt giving birth naturally, and a father whose wife also gave birth at home—kohen?.

I do not wish to force anyone to give a testimony of their birth experience here, for that in fact may be something not easy to talk w/ for some, no matter how ‘pleasant’ their delivery experience was, just as talks on sexual matters may not be for others still. But I am really curious and wonder why it seems such a taboo topic here. Perhaps it is just awkward for women to talk this in ‘public,’ just as this isn’t something comfortable for me to do, but when I first learned that there is another way to give birth not commonly known (I don’t know stats however), I also learned from one woman promoting natural birth (helen wessel) that it is the women ourselves who can, and have the best opportunity and role to tell the world that it is possible and being done, by God’s good grace.

Don’t have that much time to read (replies) longer as I used to, but here, an enlightening link-). I am sharing this for the sake of those younger women and moms who will still give birth, and those fathers who care enough for their wives to know that there is a less painful way, also those teachers and pastors, fathers, brothers and sisters who have long believed lies of the enemy that childbirth is always painful too…
