It is my understanding that the biblical term 'born of water' is referring to the physical act of child berth. Of course, once life begins the process of dying begins as well. Jesus was instructing Nicodemus about the difference between an actual physical birth verses a spiritual rebirth. You cannot have a spiritual rebirth if you were not born in the first place.

Burying this (dead old man) is in baptism (rom 6) .. as we bury the old man..we starting to plant a new man ( conception)...
GOD then give it new breath (sealing of holy spirit...then finally born again at resurrection ( born in spirit)
You see there is natural body (born of fles is flesh) and spiritual body (born of spirit is spirit)...

John the Baptist the last on a long line of Levites that did exercise the ceremonial law a as shadow using H20 to signify the unseen holiness . Jesus from the tribe of Judah to represent the new testament order after Melchedik. .
Water a shadow of the unseen Spirit . Literal water at the most can a person wet which will dry up an disappear. Not a witness that a person has received the unseen Holy Spirit. A sign as a desire to become a member as a priest after the new order.
