Franc I have a problem with this perhaps you could help. As I see here in Matthew the scriptures tell a little different story. Jesus did not raise the bar but brought it back to it's original intent.
The Jewish leaders watered it down so that the law could be followed by the arm of the flesh. Jesus taught it the way God first intended it. Showing the impossibility of keeping it.
Including not only the actions but also being pure in heart on motive.
Jesus did say not one jot or tittle will be taken away untill all is fulfilled. Your comments?
You're right.

Jesus did want to get back to how it was at the beginning.
it would be very interesting to get into WHY He had to do this, but most here are not mature enough to listen.

Whenever Jesus said:

"You have heard it said"

His very next words are HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, the way God Father originally planned it.

Like, for instance the Cerficate of Marriage.
Mathew 5:31-32
Moses had granted permission for a Certificate of Marriage, but it's not what God initially intended. God wants marriage to last forever.

So when Jesus says:
"You have heard it said that you shall not commit adultery"

and then goes on to say that JUST LOOKING at a woman WITH LUST is committing adultery,

isn't that RAISING the bar?

Jesus made the Law MORE DIFFICULT to keep because now it becomes a matter of the heart.
But really it's easier to keep because of the New Testament and the help of the Holy Spirit.

It was impossible to keep the Mosaic Law because the people tried to do this on their own.
They told God they would keep the commandments, but, of course, they couldn't.

We are STILL REQUIRED to keep the commandments but now we have help to do this.

First of all we love Jesus because He died for us and we have no desire to hurt his feelings.
second of all, we truly are changed persons since the Holy Spirit is indwelling and this make it easier to not sin.

Your last sentence is that no Law, not even one iota (one letter) of the Law will be taken away till all is fulfilled.

From the cross Jesus said IT IS FINISHED.

WHAT is finished? Maybe this is the problem.

What is finished is the work HE was supposed to do from the beginning of time.
Kill Death.
Free us from the grip of satan.
Allow the dead to enter heaven.

IT IS FINISHED DOES NOT mean that HE DID EVERYTHING FOR US.

I've said many times why this cannot be.

IF Jesus does everything for us, as some here state, then when we sin it means JESUS failed and not us !

What did Jesus mean in Mathew 5:48?
Did He really think we could be perfect?
No. But we're to try to be as morally perfect as possible since our Father IS morality and He made us in His image.

A moral walk of a man or woman is upright. Righteousness that is of the NT is the works of Jesus imputed to the believer who has been born from above.

The moral law was taught to the Jews. They all knew it. At the council in Jerusalem, it was determined that the Gentiles should keep oneself from fornication, blood, and things strangled. Morally, Holy Spirit is within us and is our Teacher of all things and He will use the Word which is life and is spirit.. which .has power to transform the believers.

All of Holy Spirit now. We are filled with Him, and He is alongside of us. The rest and the refreshing that we need.

Limey,

If you don't like what i say, you'll have to take it up with Christian theologians.
I didn't make up the rules...they were already here when I met up with Jesus.

Apparently you know nothing of the Old Testament Laws.
You could read up on them. It's all on Google, they need your money, use it.
I learned from Christian theologians --- I don't know where YOU got your information from.

Jesus DID abolish 2 of the 3 types of Law. I believe I explained it very well.
I'm used to explaining this stuff, I've taught it to adults. If you don't agree with Christianity and Jewish history, that's not my problem but yours.

IF you believe Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount to show it could not be kept, Good Luck.
I've heard this before here on these threads and it's the MOST REDICULOUS idea I've ever heard except for Calvin's.

According to YOU:

Mathew 5:3
BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT
means the people won't be able to be poor in spirit....(when He was speaking to persons who WERE poor in spirit)

Mathew 5:4
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN
means the people won't be able to mourn

Mathew 5.5
BLESSED ARE THE GENTLE
means the people won't be able to be gentle

Mathew 5:6
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS
means that people do Not hunger and thirst for righteousness

Mathew 5:7
BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL
means that people cannot be merciful

Mathew 5.8
BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN HEART
means that people cannot be poor in heart

Mathew 5:9
BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS
maeans that people cannot be peacemakers

Mathew 5:10
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED
means that no one was ever persecuted

I sure hope those reading along can see what utter nonsense you have stated.

JESUS SAID WHAT HE MEANT AND MEANT WHAT HE SAID.
If He blessed the above persons, it means He expected them to be what HE WANTED THEM TO BE.

You have your psychology backwards.

So he came to earth to explain to people how UTTERLY HOPELESS their efforts were.

Let's see what JESUS says in John... How many times must I post this?

John 15:1-6
EVERY BRANCH IN ME THAT DOES NOT BEAR FRUIT, .....THE FATHER TAKES AWAY, IT IS THROWN AWAY AS A BRANC, AND DRIES UP, AND IS GATHERED AND CAST INTO THE FIRE AND ARE BURNED.

Also please read Ephesians 5:1:17

Does this mean that we ARE to do these evil deeds?
Do these commands sound like a request to you.

How about posting some scripture to back up your ideas.
I don't see any.

Remember to laern about the different Laws the Jews practiced in O.T. times...
I'll give you a clue (again):

Civil
Ceremonial
Moral

Two are now abolished.
Which do you think --- even without lookin it up...
Honestly FranC, if I tried to fully explain it to you, you truly wouldn't understand, you are but a babe in Christ. I do however think you are mired in worshiping theology.

I don't believe you even understand simplicity of Salvation so how would you understand the weightier things? I think you believe that God still holds your sin against you, and you will always be stuck.

I suggest you keep going the way you are, keep up your fight, keep following the "rules" of the theologians, keep trying really hard, but much harder than you do now.

Be really sincere to be righteous in God's eyes and you will hopefully realize that you will never measure up by your own efforts and you fully realize your failure so you can eventually turn to His Grace and Mercy, at least one day before you get to heaven, so you can enjoy a little peace.

If not, you and I will talk then. I'll look you up for sure!

Peace to you FranC. I sincerely hope one day you will see the true freedom Christ came to give you. You will no longer hear from me directly to you!! If you don't want to see what I write, please put me on ignore. God Bless.

I do believe that you forgot the most important scripture on that subject
.
[h=1] 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
[/h] [SUP]21 [/SUP]For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

[h=1] 2 Corinthians 5:21 (CJB)
[/h] [SUP]21 [/SUP]God made this sinless man be a sin offering on our behalf, so that in union with him we might fully share in God’s righteousness.”

Jesus made us the righteousness of God and we didn't have to work for it. All we have to do is obey the Word.

WHAT is the word we have to obey?

Hi Sister FranC,

Seems like people have been busy here while I was away :). God does not want us to be children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. (Eph 4:14). I believe it is because those that do not know Jesus do not know His Word and want to hold on to man made traditions and the teachings of men. They love darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil (John 3:19-21).

They have the Word of God but do not come to it because it shows them if they wish to follow Jesus they need to take up their cross and follow him (Matt 16:24-26). Hence the reason for so many false teachers and doctrines of easy believism that try to separate God's Law from the Gospel making the Word of God of non effect through the traditions of men. (Mark 7:13). They don't believe God's Word where He tells us the His law is the very foundation of the Old and New Covenants (Ex 20:1-17; Heb 8:10-12). God's Judgement to our world from Genesis to Revelations has only ever been given to mankind over sin. Sin is the transgression of God's Law and the wages of sin is death (1John 3:4; Rom 6:23). The 10 commandments are the very standard of the Judgement when Jesus returns when we all we have to appear before God to give an account for the things that we have done in our lifetime.

Seems like these scriptures along with many other do not exist for some;

Psa 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Psa 9:8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

Ecc 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Mat 12:36, But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

John 9:39, And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind

Act 17:31, Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
Rom 2:5, But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Rom 2:6, Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

2Co 5:10, For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

2Co 5:11, Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Heb 9:27, And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Heb 10:26, For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Jam 2:12, So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Jam 2:13, For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

2Pe 3:7, But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Jud 1:14-15, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him

Rev 14:7 Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

God bless you and those who seek to know Jesus through God's Word

PS. I have to go to work now but I love Matt 5 (as well as all the Word of God). Here are a few more verses from God's Word.

LESSONS FROM MATT 5: AND THE NEW COVENANT

[SUP]
16,[/SUP]
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

[SUP]17,[/SUP] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[SUP]18,[/SUP] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. The Law of God (10 commandments) is the work of God (Ex 32:16) whatsoever God does is forever nothing can be added to it or taken away (Ecc 3:14). God's Law is perfect converting the soul (Ps 19:7). It is the very foundation of the Old and New Covenants (Ex 20:1:17, Heb 8:10-12). God's Law was spoken by God himself to His people (Ex 20:1-22). Jesus says Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matt 25:35). Gods Law is still in force today (Ps 111:7-8, Rev 12:17, 14:12, 22:14, 1John 3:5-8, 1John 2:3-4 etc.). The Law of God reveals sin to us so we can see ourselves as we truly are sinners in need of a Saviour (Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4). It is the great standard of the judgement (Ecc 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1John 3:4, Acts 17:31). God's Law is our teacher revealing sin and the character of God and brings us to Christ at the foot of the cross that we might be saved by faith by Him who loves us and washed us in His own blood (Gal 3:24; Rev 1:5). God writes His Law in our hearts so that we become like him and we follow him because we love him (Heb 8:10-12; ) LOVE is the fulfilling (doing) of God's Law (Rom 13:10). This is why Jesus says to those that love him If you love me keep my commandments (John 14:15).

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (Matt 5:17-18)

HEB 8: (new covenant)

[SUP]10,[/SUP] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: [SUP]11,[/SUP] And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. [SUP]12,[/SUP] for I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

God Fulfilling His Law (10 commandments) IN US through Faith?

The fulfilling of the God's Law in us who walk not after the flesh (carnal mind = sin) but after the Spirit (new mind with God's Law written on the heart) (Rom 8:1). That the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled IN US who walk not after the flesh (carnal mind = sin) but after the spirit (Rom 8:4; 6). Salvation is God fulfilling his Law in us saving us from sin. Finally the result of God's salvation can be seen as " Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus (Rev 14:12). God's people with the character of Jesus saved by faith through love. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:34-36)

[SUP]19,[/SUP] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
[SUP]20,[/SUP] For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
[SUP]21, [/SUP]You have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
[SUP]22, [/SUP]But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
[SUP]27,[/SUP] Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
[SUP]28,[/SUP]But I say unto you, that whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

God bless you all have a great day see you all when I can. :) Is not God's Word great?

Computers suck!

People have gone from actually studying the Word to Googleing the Word then cutting and pasting it. Makes them look really knowledgeable but they actually learn very little this way. That's why so many here don't believe the majority of the bible. They don't know what it says. And they do it all intellectually to win their point. Because of this there is little love involved in this site. Only a mediocre show of it. Though to be honest, there are some real Christians in this forum.

Are you talking about post 450 or 451 ??

Do you realize the amount of thought and work and time that went into that?

A lot of each.

You don't just copy and paste a verse.
Google doesn't tell you which one to paste.
You have to have it in your head and put a Whole thought together.

Have you never done this??
I'm surprised you'd make such a comment...

And I'd have to agree that most on these forums know and love God but apparently go to different churches that teach different doctrine.

I can think this because it's true.

Jesus did not lower the bar.
He raised it.

So easy to see, in your words. How come you make it difficult??

The bar has NOT Always been the same. Jesus wants a HEART change...He's not happy with you just following His commandments. This must be very difficult for you to accept because you feel that if the LAW could not be kept, then how on earth will it be possible to do this?

Now the New Covenant comes in.
Would it be possible for you to explain the New Covenant?

What's the big difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant?

1. We still have to keep the Law since Jesus said He did not come to abolish it but to fulfill it. That means TO MAKE IT MORE COMPLETE. To make it better. To internalize it instead of keeping it as external Law.

2. He raised the bar. Any one Worth his salt will confirm this. Anyone who really knows, I mean.

3. So if Jesus raised the bar, how could we possibly keep the Law?

You see EG, Jesus doesn't make things worse by raising he bar...He makes the more clear.

What He's saying is this: The O.C. was written in stone. The N.C. is written on the heart, and this is why it could be kept.

You should stop saying that the Law COULD NOT BE KEPT, and start thinking that maybe Jesus left us the Holy Spirit so that IT COULD BE KEPT.

He did not lower it r raise it,

it was was the same, it always has been sincday one

and you can not not live up to it, only one person did, and his name was Jesus, he died for you since you can not live up to his law, I pray you recieve his gift.

451 That's the one I posted
NO!
LoveGodforever posted BOTH 450 and 451.

YOU did NOT post 451.

You missed my point.

I said a post like that takes a lot of work to do.
YOU made it seem simple.

I asked you if you were speaking about 450 or 451, but BOTH are just as well-written by LoveGodforever.

Are you trying to say:

He who lives by the Law
Will be judged by the Law.

??
See it was easy.

Of course, I don't live under the Law.
I live under grace.
Your the one trying to to us dot the law Fran,

please stop trying to say to say it is others,

Franc I have a problem with this perhaps you could help. As I see here in Matthew the scriptures tell a little different story. Jesus did not raise the bar but brought it back to it's original intent.
The Jewish leaders watered it down so that the law could be followed by the arm of the flesh. Jesus taught it the way God first intended it. Showing the impossibility of keeping it.
Including not only the actions but also being pure in heart on motive.
Jesus did say not one jot or tittle will be taken away untill all is fulfilled. Your comments?

Yes jesus did not water it down the r raise it up,

the jews watered it does wn, thank you
